For the most part Tim Duncan is widely considered to be the best power forward ever. It's hard to argue against what he's done resume wise but if you were to make a case for someone taking his spot, Kevin Garnett would be your man. From a statistical standpoint they're very close despite playing two different styles. Many have argued that if KG had been drafted by the Spurs, he would've done just as well career wise as Duncan. While there's no way to prove that I've always wondered what Garnett would've accomplished if he had a franchise that was commited to winning. The debate as to who was better will go on for years but no matter what player you prefer, their matchups are always fun to watch.

The thing that sets Tim Duncan apart from the other superstars in the league is the fact he's egoless. He can take criticism and lets his play do the talking. KG needs to hype himself up by yelling at people and playing semi-dirty, bully, basketball. Tim didn't need such antics to get himself amped for a game.
@myloyalwhiteman1077
@myloyalwhiteman1077 7 лет назад
zzDzCzCzz getting yourself hyped for a game is great for mentality, according to sports science. KG set the energy for the players around him, he was a bully on the COURT, which is great (entertainment) he always kept it on the court.
@beegee1960
@beegee1960 6 лет назад
Thing is, he could never bully Duncan Tim would just look at him, shrug and end on down the field leaving KG standing there looking foolish. Shaq says Duncan was the only player he could never get to lose his cool. He says Tim would just shrug, and say ,”

Let's be honest for a sec: They are both great, both HOFers for sure. Sure, Timmy D won more and sure, he produces better numbers today than KG. But don't dismiss KG just like that. KG gave it his all and there can't be doubt those 12 seasons with the Wolves must've taken a toll on his body. So it isn't fair to say KG could've won more with Boston. Or even Nets now. Especially after he's blown his knee in the season the Celtics were looking to defend the chip. Tim Duncan sure has had better career (easy to say day after he's won his 5th ring). But a better player? C'mon. They're both the absolute pinnacle of basketball.
@orangefox1231
@orangefox1231 10 лет назад
I'd never dismiss KG ever. But I do think Duncan's the absolute best at his position and it's not only the rings that back up that standpoint in my view. But Garnett's probably top five.

I personally love KG & like him a lot more than Duncan but i think Timmy is more fundamentally sound than KG. KG relied a little more on his athleticism in my opinion (which obviously was better than Duncan's). In both their primes, I think KG was better but Duncan has a seemingly ageless game cuz of his fundamentals! i agree with you 100% though! i think KG could've had a much better career with a different team, coach, etc. The Wolves' front office had SO many problems when KG was there; he basically had to do EVERYTHING for that team!

If a person says that Duncan had help, they lost the argument. Nobody could've predicted that tony and Manu were going to be all-stars. Garnett played with stars too...he just wasn't able to lead and develop his teammates. Garnett teamed with 2 all-stars(like lebron) and barely won 1 title. He had a great coach too...your excuses are sad.

Adam Gottlieb I didn't had the chance to watch Bob Pettit play. I read some things about him and watched some film, but that's it. I'm sure he is right there with the greatest, but I'm bias towards the 80's onward. The NBA and basketball in general has evolved a lot since the 50's, probably as good as he was, he couldn't compete with later generations.

shamier smith I'm not going to bad mouth Malone. He is as good as they come. But to my eyes, McHale had better fundamentals and the best post moves ever in the history of the game alongside Olajuwon. In top of that he has three rings and had many more moves and resources than Malone. McHale was obviously not as stronger as Malone, but he had better basketball IQ. He was the better player.

Better player = KG Better career/legacy = Tim Duncan Overall = Tim Duncan You have to remember KG carried the *Minnesota Timberwolves* to the *Western Conference Finals* in his MVP year and lost to the great *Lakers* in *six* games. Duncan had an amazing team his whole career. I'm not taking any credit from him but Imagine KG in the Spurs system in his prime years.
@zach1389
@zach1389 9 лет назад
Well since eveyone saw his stats greatly diminish when he had to split stats with 2 other established superstars and an up and comer point guard in Boston, I'd imagine his stats would be similar to inferior to Duncan's. He was on the overloaded celtics team for 6 years and only managed one ring, proving Tim Duncan is the best winner at that position all time.

To sum it up, TD: Had good role players and AllStars in 'The Admiral', Tony, Manu. KG: Bad role players during his Minnesota years, basically had to carry them on his back. Going to Boston past his prime with Ray&Paul. The road KG took to win that 1 ring, if he had to do it all over again he would, thats what fuels him, failure after failure, nobody likes to lose, but he didn't gave up and 13 years later he won his 1st ring. I know TD 4rings>KG 1 ring, but the road to their 1st ring respectively was different.

Robbed of at least 1 MVP by Duncan because he played for a better team. 4 time league leader in rebounding. Last time I checked Duncan never led the league in rebounding..... When compared to Duncan. KG more than stacks up, but gets crap because the T-Wolves never gave him anyone to work with. Everyone likes to forget that KG was playing POINT GUARD at 7 foot tall in the 04 conference finals because we didn't have anyone but KG..... Put Tim Duncan on the 04 T-Wolves and they don't make it out of the first round......
@bballer191
@bballer191 8 лет назад
+SixtySixNation Lol yea this post isn't biased at all.. KG put up SLIGHTLY better offensive numbers on a much worse team. That's easier to do. Duncan was/is the backbone to a perennial title contender. He's been better for longer as well. KG was been washed for a couple years now. The Spurs are in the middle of their 19th (!!) straight season of 50+ wins. What Duncan's done is truly remarkable. And if you really want to play the stats game, then here, have a look at what someone else posted in the comments already: Tim Duncan's playoff stats are impeccable, and actually better than KGs. KG Playoff career averages: 18.2ppg 10.7rpg 3.3apg 1.2spg 1.3bpg TD Playoff career averages: 21.3ppg 11.7rpg 3.1apg 0.7spg 2.3 bpg I could counter by saying KG never averaged 28ppg/15rpg/5apg/4bpg in a playoff like Tim did in 2002. Either way, the stats KG put up only once resulted in a championship, whereas Tim put up BETTER stats and won MORE rings, with a legitimate chance to get a 6th this year. KG's time as an elite player in the league lasted about 11 years from 1997 to 2008 while Timmy has been for his entire 17 year career. There's no doubt KG was an absolute force and a top 5 all time PF, but he cannot touch the GOAT PF.
@SixtySixNation
@SixtySixNation 8 лет назад
+Brandon Van "I could counter by saying KG never averaged 28ppg/15rpg/5apg/4bpg in a playoff like Tim did in 2002." You know, I could counter by saying Tim Duncan Averaged 29ppg/17/rbg/5apg/3bpg in the 02 conference semi's. But then we'd have to also look at his 5 Turn overs per game. His 42% shooting. And the fact he lost in 5 games. The only game they won, they won in spite of Tim Duncan's 10 turnovers. Tim Duncan's impact that season's post season was about as good as Kevin Love's during his time in Minnesota. "Tim Duncan's playoff stats are impeccable, and actually better than KGs. KG Playoff career averages: 18.2ppg 10.7rpg 3.3apg 1.2spg 1.3bpg TD Playoff career averages: 21.3ppg 11.7rpg 3.1apg 0.7spg 2.3 bpg" There is a reason I removed the latter portion of KG's career. KG's game is built on Athleticism. Nobody here is arguing that Tim Duncan had a worse career than KG, or that KG has more longevity in his game than Tim Duncan. I'm talking about Prime vs Prime, who was a better individual player. KG's Post season stats in his prime years 99-08 22.3 ppg / 12.7 rpg / 4.5 apg / 1.4 spg / 1.6 bpg Tim Duncan's Post season stats during the same years: 23.4 ppg / 12.7 rpg / 3.5 apg / .7 spg / 2.4 bpg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Again, I'm not saying that KG had a better career than KG. But only a fool would compare rings in a team sport. 1 for 1, KG was a better individual player than Duncan. Would KG have won 5 rings in SaS? Probably not, his personality does not fit with the great spurs organization and their philosophy. Would Tim Duncan have been able to carry the 04 wolves to the Conference finals? Not a chance in hell.

2 of the greatest PFs of all time..But in my opinion KG is better..The intensity, the leadership, the defence, the strength, the hustle..A much more cerebral player also..But Timmy is also an incredibly reliable PF with decisiveness, great basketball IQ and high offensive awareness..And oh..RINGS DON'T MAKE PLAYERS..GET THAT IN YOUR THICK SKULL PEOPLE
@VintageGameRoom
@VintageGameRoom 10 лет назад
Well that's your opinion and I accept it.But like I said I believe rings do not make players great..And no..Tim is not a better defender than KG..How can you say that?They have exactly the same height and they do exactly the same job in the paint..Plus KG can play excellent perimeter defence..I think that KG in his prime is a lot better than Tim but if someone compares them today in 2013-2014 KG looks very rusty and old but Duncan looks fresh and can still provide for the team.In terms of overall presence in the NBA Tim wins easily but in terms of basketball IQ, physical qualifications and dominance I choose the Big Ticket..I would love to hear the contradiction from you
@VintageGameRoom
@VintageGameRoom 10 лет назад
I really like how this conversation turns out..It's like I'm in a forum or something..Well Duncan was amazing in the '03 playoffs and I can't argue that.Yes he made it to the playoffs more times than KG (I think Tim is on the top 10 players in playoff time in general)..Yes Tim has 4 rings while KG just one..But we have to think of how unlucky Kevin was..Remember Malik Sealy?How unfortunate could that be for Malik at first and for Garnett also..This death crushed his inner strength, messed up his mentality in an era which KG and Sealy where like brothers..Remember Stephon Marbury and the way he left KG alone in the Wolves in 99?I believe with Marbury and Garnett the Wolves had a chance to the finals..I also believe that Manu and Parker where bound to become great players I don't think Duncan made them..So comparing the teammates of both players in certain eras I think Kevin was very unlucky in his prime not having a strong player both mentally and physically to help him.. :)
@VintageGameRoom
@VintageGameRoom 10 лет назад
well I haven't given it too much thought..But I don't think I would rank Duncan higher than Bryant..I don't know it just doesn't seem right..And I would propably go like:MJ,Kareem,Bill Russel,Bird,Olajuwon,Magic,Oscar Robertson,Isiah Thomas,Karl Malone,Scottie Pippen and then Duncan (because of the titles and the overall presence in the NBA)otherwise Let's don't forget Dirk,Dr J and Shaq either..Don't comment about arl Malone's position in my list..He was playing basketball in MJ's era..That's a curse :)
@VintageGameRoom
@VintageGameRoom 10 лет назад
Well I agree for Pippen.He propably should not be on the list but I will say it again that in MJs era everything is complicated :P ..But you are right about that.But I still believe that Kobe is a greater player than Tim..Not a better personality, although you should know that in practice sessions and in the locker room Duncan is like a soldier and not the most fun guy around..He takes no jokes and has a military-kind-of-theory for his game..He's waay to professional..Dunno sounds bad for me.As far as it concerns Kobe, I never liked the guy but he IS Kobe bryant..5 rings, 4 time NBA All-Star game MVP, 2 time NBA scoring champion, 2 time NBA Finals MVP, 15 time all star..I think he deserves to be higher than Tim despite the fact that he is an ass like you said..I totally agree with you about Pippen..Let's erase him from the list (I just got emotional because I liked him back in the day)MJ and Scottie, well you know....

Tim led his team to an NBA championship his second year in the league, that counts for a lot. It seemed to me at first that Kevin was a little better than Duncan, was scoring and rebounding at higher rates but personal stats do not necessarily = the "best". Knowing how to work within your team has proven just as valuable as personal skill. Who knows what KG could have done in Duncan's actual shoes, having a great coach like pop and great players around him. Since we don't know we just have to look at who wins playoff games the most. If winning is any measure.

KG is my favorite player in all of sports since I'm from Minnesota but I've accepted that Duncan is the better player. Even if you put KG on the Spurs and compared it to what Duncan has done with the Spurs, Duncan's teams either would win more or look more impressive doing so if they won the same amount, though Garnett with David Robinson would probably be better than Duncan-Robinson based on spacing but Garnett with Ginobili and Parker, which when talking about Duncan is how you should measure him with those teammates, wouldn't work as well for KG than Duncan. The thing is Duncan does the two most impactful things on offense and defense better than Garnett, which is low-post offense and low-post defense. On offense, being a great post player means you have an unstoppable shot that is highly effective since you're closer to the rim. On defense, being a great low-post defense means that everyone has to rely on perimeter shot since they can't drive it in and if they do, it's going to be contested, which is especially so in today's NBA where defenses try to funnel players into taking shots inside against great low-post defenders.
@mahad7491
@mahad7491 11 лет назад
Also, versatility-wise, Garnett worked better as a ball-handler, perimeter shooter, and perimeter defender but I could go the other way and say Duncan had versatility with a good inside-out game since he had that nice bank shot to compliment his post scoring, along with either defending the C or PF spot except with less range as a defender but like I said, low-post defense trumps all. Passing-wise and rebounding-wise, they were the same.

I believe KG was the better Athlete, a legendary coach early in his career fresh out of high school might have made a huge difference! Also playing along side David Robinson early in his career as you mention already! Practicing against David Robinson everyday might have made him a much better low post defender and gave him a more polished game in the post offensively!

I'm a KG stan but I can admit TD is the greatest PF ever by a long margin, with KG second and Dirk 3rd (Malone played with the second best PG throughout his whole career and then a stacked Lakers and couldn't do much, Barkley carried some teams but again lost with Phoenix and Houston and couldn't defend). I always maintain that those who thinking them switching teams would make a difference are idiots. Tim can raise his game in big moments, KG can't. Whilst rings don't make players, it does show how much of an impact on the guys around him the main dude has. Tim made Parker and Manu, won Robinson (a former MVP) chips and showed that he has been the best player over the past 15 years bar none. KG is a better defender (both individually through pick and roll switches and guarding all 5 men in Minne and coaching others), better passer (averaged 4 or more in 10 years, I don't think Tim has ever averaged more than 3.8) and a slightly better rebounder (grabbed more of the available in his prime). But Tim is a better leader, scorer, blocker, winner and talent. Two all time greats, with Dirk being the best offensive option of all 3.

Statistically they are pretty similar, KG averaged more rebounds/assists and steals but again less points and blocks, whilst playing slightly more minutes and winning I think 10 less games if memory servers correctly. How can you be the MVP of the league with the 5th best record? He deserved it 100% in 03/04, that year is better than any-one Duncan year, but Duncan deserved both, he also won which proved it.

And no, I did not miss KG in his prime, his years with the wolves were amazing, and it's simply a shame they could never put the right pieces around him. If anything, he was too loyal and should have left for greener pastures earlier than he did. I've always felt that Flip Saunders squandered a lot of Garnett's potential and that under a different coach early in his career Garnett could have been one of if not the best in recent memory. Making Garnett into a power forward and turning him into a somewhat generic post player was a huge mistake in my opinion. KG came into the league as a wing player and was crossing people up at 7 feet tall with all kinds of agility. His length and speed let him play great perimeter defense too and not just post. I don't think people really knew what Garnett was and what to do with him, so they just looked at his height and put him in the standard bigman role. Granted, Garnett's attitude of being content with his game because his numbers were above average didn't help. But I blame his coaches for some of that too. As Garnett was used and how their circumstances ultimately played out, you can say Duncan was better than him. But Garnett was more talented than Duncan could ever think of being and if I was starting a team I'd take Garnett over him.

@TheRiggedBA 9 лет назад
***** Well you could switch him up as needed, but I would have played him at small forward as a total match-up headache for opposing teams and run more plays for him as a score-first option. I'd have also made him primarily a roaming perimeter defender a la Andrei Kirilenko, but have him lock in on his man if defending a good scorer. Garnett could have and probably should have been regularly top 3 in scoring. It's also wild to me that he wasn't utilized to get more roving blocks and steals.

Yeah but Garnett was a garbage teammate. Even old teammates said that. It's not Tim Duncan's fault he played with other greats to split stats with. The thing is, Duncan has been successful with different supporting casts for years and years, ever single consecutive year to be exact. Garnett was given teammates here and there as well, but never helped them be successful like Tim Duncan did for his. Some of his old teammates who were actually pretty good talked about this. Terrell Brandon, Sczerbiak, Troy Hudson, Rasho Nesterovic, even Chauncy Billups. They all talked about how he would just act like a selfish kid through stretches of a season, which most players out of high school tend to do. And we all know what teams Nesterovic and Billups went to, and the success they had with them. Nesterovic was asked which power forward he thought was better, and he didn't hesitate to say Tim Duncan. Chauncy Billups talked about the night and day difference, and his excitement to be in a team that could use his skills. It's not like Garnett wasn't given the chances Tim Duncan was given, it's that he didn't utilize his team to the best of their abilities. The problem with Timmy is that he was an obsessed winner, while Garnett was just an obsessed individual.

Even if KG played with Popovich instead of Duncan, Spurs would not become a greater team. TD created systems, but KG couldn't. No team could rely on KG 's offense skill. TD got double team by his own lowpost offense skill and made his teammate open. And, Karl Malone never lead rebounding. You mean Moses Malone?
@marklion315

Two things that set Duncan over Garnett, first is defense. Second is temperament, people like to say that Tim was drafted into one of the best run organizations, but they fail to realize is that Tim is one of the main reasons it is so. He was always a teacher, young Manu and Parker would credit not just Pop but also Tim for helping them develop into the players they became. Time was very effective almost up until the end when his knee finally caught up with him, his game translated well into old age, but more importantly he was a leader and teacher. Put KG into the same locker room and you would not have had the same result.

Ry Bur Well, then look at their coaches, lol Individually, KG have a slight advantage over Duncan, that's my point. Duncan obviously has a better career. Prime KG is a bit more taller and has the overall athleticism, rebound, defense and range advantage compared to Duncan, Tim is superior in everything else. A 1x1 matchup, forget the team, would be very close. Not only KG but Malone as well are better individual players than Duncan in my opinion. But individuality means nothing in the NBA.

No, Garnett is garbage on offense compared to Duncan and has to have a point guard set him up for his buckets. Hes had a top 5 NBA coach all-time since he was drafted. Look at what the Timberwolves have done with Love since KG finally got out of there. Its just a bad franchise. "TD was just able to do it for so much longer", no shit. His team never relied completely on him. Have you seen what Pop does with minutes? If Manu and Parker played with Garnett, neither one of them would be mentioned as Hall of Famers. Basketball is about role playing, letting everyone contribute. Duncan can shoot jump shots just like KG but that is not his role. He is an inside player letting Manu and Parker play the perimeter. KG wants to do it all. Look at great teams, they have clear defined roles for their players, it is not a coincidence. If you play with Duncan when he was young you knew you would get open look jump shots when he was on the blocks.The same thing with the Lakers with Shaq and Gasol you could depend on them on the blocks opening things up for their teammates. It is reason why San Antonio and the Lakers have won the most championships in the last 15 years. If you play with KG and Dirk where are you playing off them when they are shooting jumps shots too. As great of players as KG and Dirk have been through the years they each only have one championship. Both of them had strong inside presence from role players on teams when they did win. If they both were strong inside players they would have won multiple championships. Although they are both seven footers in their heyday they could have both been 6'6". They dominated with their skills not their size. A big man should dominate with his size and skills, he has plenty of other talented teammates who aren't seven feet. You cannot coach size, use that talent under the basket then every team has to double and triple you opening it up for your teammates. Even in modern day basketball all these big men that shoot threes do not make their teams that great if they do not have an strong inside presence.

im from San Antonio and i love the spurs more than anything else in the world. Timmy is the best powerfoward of all time, what seperates him from garnnet from duncan is two things. 1.Duncan is a better passes, especially out of doubles. 2. Duncan was drafted by a great franchise which has stability and better pieces that garnett ever had in Minnesota. You saw what he did in Boston when he had help around him. Always wished spurs could get Garnett. Love his passion and vocality as a leader.

I think Kevin Garnett has always more athletic than Tim Duncan. As far as who is better it is hard to dismiss what Tim has done. KG has a lot of intensity but that does not equate or guarantee success. Tim has helped earned 51 championship rings for 51 different players, not counting multiple championships, and has led his teams to 5 championships. When he joined the Spurs many said the twin towers could not win in all. They won two championships. Then when David retired again many said he could not win without David. He has won three more championships. In my opinion, Tim is definitely better than Kevin overall. As far as Dirk versus Kevin, I would pick Dirk over Kevin.

Kevin Garnett was an all-star 2 years ago. He's going into his 20th season. It would be not human if he didn't decline. Tim Duncan never averaged 4 Assists for a season EVER. While KG did it for 10 straight seasons...KG and Kareem Abdul-Jabber are the only big man in the top 50 for assists All-Time. So to say Duncan is a better passer is inaccurate. And a better teammate?? Lol...Thats funny.

lol @ end of discussion. KG had a better all around game, but Dirk was a much better scorer. KG never carried a team to a championship like Dirk did in 2011 and almost did in 2006. KG wasnt even the 1st option on those Celtic teams. Dirk never had a legit star around him and made the Mavs a contender for an entire decade. KG made the T-Wolves a contender 1 year. In the playoffs, which matter the most... Dirk: 25.3--10.0--2.5 KG: 18.7--10.7--3.3 "End of discussion"
@robertg4229
@robertg4229 8 лет назад
+Mo TV You need to read my post again. Those are what they both average in the playoffs. And are you really gonna act like Dirk had that much more talent around him than KG. The best player Dirk ever played with was Nash who left before he entered his prime cause Cuban didn't wanna pay him. Despite that, Dirk took the Mavs to at least the 2nd round 7 times, to the Finals twice and won a ring. KG took the Twolves out of the 1st round once and they never got to the Finals.
@robertg4229
@robertg4229 8 лет назад
Mo TV In the late 90's, he had Stephon Marbury (tho I was never a fan) and Tom Gugliotta who was an all-star. When Marbury left, he had Terrell Brandon. He had Wally/ Latrell Sprewell/Cassell and couldnt get the job done in 04 and missed the playoffs all together in 05. Stop acting like he played with nothing but bums in Minnesota. Dirk led the most efficient offense in the league from 2000 to 2007. Bottom line is, Dirk led the Mavs to multiple deep runs in the playoffs and a ring which is far more than KG did in Minnesota. Even individually, Dirk was better than Garnett when it mattered most which is the postseason.

chukk mane Are you really going to play that game? Tim Duncan's playoff stats are impeccable, and actually better than KGs.
@ChukMane14

Wait what? Did u say the Spurs has a chance this year lmfaooooo, Timmy D Hasn't been a dominant force since 2010 I must admit he steps up in the playoffs though, but don't over due it he's a solid all star he hasn't been a superstar since 2010 probably before that. Same as KG 2010 was his last "all star" like year. And don't bring rings into question Duncan obviously has had way better teams than KG his whole career even when he was in Boston. Put KG in a Spurs uniform and he'll win 10 rings GOAT. The real 21 FOH Kg far better defender than Timmy D.

Out of all the greats Tim Duncan had it the easiest. Drafted to a hall of Fame center and once of the greatest coaches of all time. Plus 2 Hall of Fame players in manu and Tony. And a possible Hall of Fame player in Leonard.
@joemartinez4329
@joemartinez4329 10 лет назад
Do not know what point you are trying to make with 'had it the easiest', but regardless of coach and teammates Tim still had to step on the court and play the game. Tim has also adapted his game to the competition and his free throw percentage has improved. Another false argument I hear is that Manu and Tony are only used to disprove Tim's success yet when they talk about the best point guard and 'sixth man' their names are never mentioned.

Who was Greg Popovich before 1999. How many Finals had San Antonio been in with David Robinson in between 1988 and 1998. You have to stop rewriting history. Duncan is the main catalyst behind the Spurs, just like Russell was for the Celtics.

***** I have no clue what I am saying when Kobe wasn't even drafted to the Lakers. Not to mention, Magic Johnson had to struggle a little bit before he really did anything. Tim Duncan has never missed the playoffs. And Pop was a coach who as mentored by the Larry Brown. One of the greatest coaches of all time. And Kobe had to struggle with that crap team in 06-07 which Tim Duncan never had to do because Tim Duncan never played with scrubs like Kwame Brown and Smush Parker. As for Jordan I'm not sure if you remember his time before the 90's or even with the Wizards. And Bird didn't have a good team for nearly as long as Tim Duncan did.

I have always been a KG fan since his rookie days, to be fair,Spurs comprises of more championship material as a team where TD benefited more compared to KG when he was with Wolves. Being in a all rounded team, TD was very much protected by his reliable team mates where spurs do not need to overexpose their star at an early age this leads to his longevity in playing, so old yet still so good. KG on the other hand has been placed in the furnace since day 1 almost at times single-handedly pulling his team through. By the time KG was in Celtics, it was nearing the end of his career and injuries took over his battled rammed body. KG is a more balanced player especially in his prime but TD simply excels in his task either as PF/C to such a high pedigree. Instead of comparing heads on, If you place TD and KG in a team together.. that would be out of the world. Similar to the Moses and Olajuwon era when they were in same team.

I don't think anyone could say with all certainty that either man is better than the other. They both have their own unique styles: Garnett, uber aggressive; Duncan, subliminally dominating. They both have terrific long-2 abilities, post moves and superior defense. Their career stats are almost identical. Really, check em out --it's eery. Timmy's got a lot more bling, but who's to say KG wouldn't have the same hardware given more comprable circumstances. Love em both! They are good for the game!

I don't see why many people claim Garnett would be nearly as successful as Duncan in the same shoes. Duncan is the only shot-clock era player to win 2 championships with 0 Playoff teammates averaging 16 PPG (1999 and 2003) And the only post-1955 player along with Hakeem to win a title with 0 Playoff teammates of 15 PPG (Hakeem did it with 0 teammates of 14 PPG in 1994). Duncan also took the Spurs to the 2001 WCF and 2002 WCSF when his best teammates Derek Anderson and David Robinson were injured. The Spurs were 1-4 in the 2000 and 2002 Playoffs when Duncan was injured/did not play, despite playing lower seeds and injured teams (Suns without Kidd, Sonics without Lewis). So to claim that he was gifted with great supporting casts from the beginning is not true. Garnett failed to pass the 1st Round with similar or better teams up to 2003, even when having 20+ PPG teammates in his 2002 and 2003 exits. And most of the time, Garnett didn't even lose to the best competition, only losing to an eventual NBA Finalist/Champion twice in Minnesota (1999 Spurs, 2004 Lakers) When Garnett did lead a championship team and had good help around him in 2008, he had lesser numbers than Duncan did in any Playoff run from 1999-2007 including his 4 titles as the leader. Despite playing under easier defensive circumstances than the pre-2005 era. Duncan's 2013 Finals (19-12-1-1-1 on 49/81) at age 37 was also equal or better than Garnett's 2008 Finals (18-13-3-2-1 on 43/76) in his prime while Duncan played against a better defensive and overall team.
