Yes sir...I forgot he was even on the cavs...I definitely remember he signed with the bulls because my heart broke lol but he didn't fit with that team..he left because he didn't like flip saunders...it sucks but hey he admitted he shouldn't have left and loved seeing his number retire
Tee Woodz I cried when we signed Muhammad . .he sucked man lmao he would've been a good backup but this dude replaced ben wallace in the starting lineup? Smh man I couldn't believe it LOL the hell was joe dumars thinking
Ben Wallace needs to go into the Hall of fame.. 1 of the toughest and strongest to ever do it...He was a great rebounder and defender #TheBeast #BigBenWallace
Ben wasn't fully appreciated when he played and has certainly not gotten his correct due as an all time great defender. He HAS to be top 10 post defender of all time during prime stretch.....and my favorite of all....he did it without tactics, he didn't need to give cheap hits or fake tough talk. He just had one thing on his mind....OUT WORK YOU
Probably THE greatest post defender. He gave prime Shaq problems. The paint was on lockdown, and even if he had to switch to a guard, it wasn't a mismatch.
😭🤣😂😅😅😭🤧😓. #noflyzone. Other teams: -90 points agame. You know what is meant). Undrafted. Came in with the league's most popular draft class from the 90'$. A myth. Walking into the sunset 😍💙😎😭. "Daddy is it true he had a whole city wearing afros and the whole arena fighting for his team and him plus hold Shaq down even thou he was undersized and won a championship when nobody thought that they would"?,"Did you see him play"? yes and yes. Most certainly every game with my own afro.
you right. I loved him as a fan of the game. But i agree that he wasn't fully appreciated when he played. The league really tried to hype Howard when he won dpoy like 3 years in a row. Yeah howard had a couple good years in Orlando but he was NEVER a better defender than Big Ben Wallace. Not even on his best day.
Put this man in the HOF... - 4x DPOY (tied for most by any player w/Mutombo) - 4x all-star - 2x ECF Champ - 1x NBA Champ - Anchor of the Pistons defense in the early & mid 2000s (went to 6 straight ECF and 2 straight NBA Finals) - Anchor of the '07 Bulls defense (swept the defending champs, Miami Heat in the 1st rd) - Anchor of the '08 Cavs defense (went 7 games with '08 champs; held them to their fewest ppg avg of any series that year)
It used to look foggy in the old Boston Garden..but to the main point. Garnett started trying to back in Ben on the block and ended up almost at the 3 point line.
Before acquiring Ben Wallace - the 2008 Cavs allowed 98.2 ppg through 55 games - this would be ranked 11th in the league In the 22 regular season games that Ben Wallace played with the Cavs - the 2008 Cavs allowed 91.6 ppg - this would be ranked 4th in the league In the 2008 playoffs, with Ben Wallace starting every game - the 2008 Cavs allowed 87.8 ppg - this was the lowest ppg allowed by any team in the playoffs Ben Wallace at age 33 singlehandedly turned around the 2008 Cavs from a solid, but not great defense to the best defense in ppg allowed during the playoffs
you don't have to tell me how great Ben was lol..trust me it hurt like hell when he signed with the bulls but I'm glad he knew he made a mistake leaving and number now retired
+Nobody Touches Jordan Can you tell me where you found the stats? I am writing a paper about Ben Wallace and it would be very helpful if I can cite the stats. Thank you!
Li Qin These are the 2008 league standings at the time of the Cavs' 55th game - the last game before acquiring Ben Wallace. www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/index.cgi?month=2&day=22&year=2008 You will see that the Cavs allowed 98.2 ppg at that time under the PA/G column. To compare how this would rank with the league averages at the season's end, you can go to this link www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2008.html and scroll down to "opponent stats" and check the PTS/G column. These are the team stats from the 2008 Playoffs www.basketball-reference.com/playoffs/NBA_2008.html You will see that the 2008 Cavs were number 1 in points allowed amongst all playoff teams at at 87.8 ppg Another good fact to remember is that the Cavs' only 2 double-digit losses in the 2008 Playoffs came in the 2 games that Ben Wallace played his least amount of minutes for those playoffs Game 3 vs Wizards Game 2 vs Celtics Unfortunately I don't know of any shortcut to find these following stats In the 22 regular season games that Ben Wallace played with the Cavs - the 2008 Cavs allowed 91.6 ppg - this would be ranked 4th in the league What I did was go to Ben Wallace's 2008 game log www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/wallabe01/gamelog/2008/ and click the date of every game he played with the Cavs. Then I added up the combined points of the 2008 Cavs opponents in the 22 games that Ben played, and divided them by 22 you should get 2015 total points which is 91.59 or 91.6 ppg allowed when divided by 22
As a Pistons fan, I loved Ben Wallace's blue-collar defensive attitude. It was great watching him n the other guys all those years while I was growing up. Hoping we become relevant again.
That man right there was a true beast on defense... and if anybody old enough to remember watchin this when the last time you seen KG shakin up with anyone from the other team ................RESPECT is EARNED
XGames you cant play 100% on defense and offense as a starter. Not enough energy to do it. He was a defensive and rebounding specialist that used most of his energy doing those 2 things. Most as in 70%+. If he was more active on offense he would have been more worn out and would have not played as good defense. MJ is said to be a great defender but watch the games and Pippen or somebody else was usually guarding the top scorer. Coach Jackson did not want MJ to get worn out on defense. Thats why teams have defensive specialists like Ben Wallace, Michael Cooper, Rodman, Bowen and etc. Very few players can be all over guys on defense and be top scorer and even 2 scorer. Jerry West could do it. Even if it was his greatest PG rival Oscar Robertson. You can more easily do it of course if the player you guard is just a shooter. But if he is a all around scorer or fast guy it uses up way more energy to keep up. The Rodmans, Horace Grants of basketball free up top 2 scorers on the teams somewhat.
***** this era is just as good u just can't accept it because you are so hung up on the past when guys like kobe and timmy d where in their prime and u were growing up watching and now u see these new niggas and youre not used to it
+Puppet Master ya I remember watching the WCF 2 years ago, it was the warriors vs the Rockets and it was literally the worst playoff series I've ever watched. Even Jeff van Gundy mentioned during the game on national tv. It was just awful to watch. The talent is there but the way the game is played is just terrible.
Some of the most skilled players in NBA history, play now. Steph Curry, Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, Lebron James. Although I agree, the big men are not as skilled, but the game has changed, there's more emphasis on the three ball, I what that has done is diminish the importance of a back-to-basket centers. However guard play on average has improved and has made the game more exciting, the pace is faster. Believe me as a Knicks fan, nothing worse than Knicks vs Pacers and Heat matchups, ugly games. Detroit bad boys too. I think it is important to be fair, rather than just nostalgic, the quality of basketball is good. The standard of what it takes to be a pro basketball player now is so much higher than in the past. I forgot to mention Kwahi Leonard, very skilled player.
No they would not. The 2008 Pistons were a defensive team. Number #1 opponet points per game But 17th in PPG Adding a great defensive player would not have mattered much when their offense is so low. Teams that win the most championships have top offenses and defenses.
Say what ya want, Big Ben Wallace had KG locked down. 2 warriors who respected each other but played hard every time. Incredible work ethics & preparation. Never give up & never give an inch.
@@michaelkirschner6009 i dont think so, depending on the refrees. I mean in 07 lebron went 3-20 and the cavs blew out the pistons in game 6 due to referees. I dunno i remember him getting shut down in the 2nd half of game 7
Man! On D, Wallace was a giant amongst men. He was 6'8 tops, but defended like he was 7 ft tall. That's the thing about KG, ,if you get in his chest he becomes just an above average player. Chris Bosh should have taken notes.
People over estimate the height advantage thing. The advantage of being 7ft 0 vs a 6ft 9 guy is very little. Also it does not account for arm length. I'm 6ft 3 with 6ft 6 man standing reach. Its because of my arm length. I have Zion Williamson standing reach and 5ft 10 guys have blocked me sometimes. Also a 5ft 6 guy completely shut me down before. Even with the standing reach advantage it does not account for mental smarts. I can guard 6ft 9 guys with 9ft standing reaches and shut them down inside by using my head. I held a 6ft 9 and 250ish man to 4 points in 2 gamss to 15. The guy before me in the game before got 9 points all 1s dropped on him as if he was not there. Im not great defender and not even very good too.
Also it does not account for vertical jump too. Just ask Patrick Ewing that was 7ft 0 that was blocked by 5ft 3 Muggsie Bogues. Their measurements are what they told the NBA.
zizi izi Hell, no defenders like wallace at all. Almost all big men who're good shot blockers only get help side blocks where the offensive player doesnt seem em coming. Wallace was undersized and still would block your shot from the post.
+Plague Doc The irony here is that the best defender was KG, esp in his prime where he could guard every position, one minute he was suffocating a pointguard at the circle, the next minute he was guarding a center in the post.
Bill Russell was the best ever. Dude averaged over 3 blocks a game before they started keeping track of that stat. He averaged 20 rebounds for his entire career. Which is insane if you think about it.
Props to Ben Wallace (who is a monster) on a solid game 7, but let's not get it twisted. Kevin Garnett averaged 19.6pts, 53.7 FG%, and 10.8 Reb for the whole Cavs series. All at or above his regular season average.
The best defender in modern day basketball!! And this is after his prime, in his prime( 2001-2006) he was Dennis Rodman but just a much better shotblocker! He has all kinds of records defensivley but the most impressive is how little fouling he actually did considering him going after every offensive play! In my opinion he's up there with the best defenders/rebounders of all time(Russell, Chamberlain, Rodman, Mutombo)
Hey Cavs haters who claim this year's Finals was 'rigged.' Watch this video closely and try to honestly tell me the NBA wasn't trying to force a Lakers-Celtics Finals!
Maybe it was,, but you validating a cavs championship this year by saying finals in the past have been rigged too doesn't do anything to dissuade 'cavs haters'
At rebounding he was crap after Pistons. Defense was still there. He was not the A version of Ben Wallace anymore. He was the C version and his rebounding was gone and his scoring dropped more. He was basically a defensive specialist and not a defensive and rebounding specialist anymore. Best place to put him would be bench player and play him about 20 minutes to degrade offense. But as a starter at this time he hurts your team more than helps it because his rebounding is not there and Kevin Garnett outrebounded him as if Ben Wallace was a average rebounder.
These ref's singlehandedly stop LeBron from going to his second straight ECF then nba finals cuz he was on a different level early on in his career #GOAT JAMES
Damn I was in 9th grade watching this Game I wanted Bron to win so bad I missed how good Ben was defensively this series. Bron jus ain’t have enough help offensively
The 80s,through the early 2000,-where the best years of the NBA now days its alrite but never the same the same with the rap game the Legends and super starts what made the NBA my honestly opinion
He had bad feet, lost about two years of his career early on trying to heal from the same type of break that would later end Yao Mings career. Just the fact that he was able to play 10 years of pro ball is miraculous
