Thanks for making this video. I really appreciate it. I have the very same problem on my dad's 1995 Ford F-150. I have heard it said that this tube gets snapped from putting the truck in park while your still moving a little and the transmission parking paw snaps the tube through the cable but I'm not sure. I'm doing this fix for my fathers truck and your way of doing this work seems to be the best way. Other people pull the whole column and I don't want to do that as it's just more work. Plus about a year ago I had to replace in the same truck the steering wheel bearings cause my dad would pull on the wheel to get in the truck. Thanks again for your time making this video. You gave me the knowledge I needed to handle this repair! my dad thanks you to : )
Excellent video. My shift tube broke in my driveway yesterday. I’m really glad I found your video. $90 in parts and it will be done. Vs $300-$400 at the mechanic
There is a small actuator on the the steering column that is what unlocks the shifter when the brake is pressed. It coil be bad or loose. That might be what’s fighting against ya. The park pall or miss adjusted cable could also be causing trouble. I’d start with that actuator. You can test it by manually releasing it and trying the shifter.
I did this job just yesterday and now I'm having issues where my wait to start light is no longer coming on and my truck just cranks and cranks, will not start. Any idea what my issue may be??
Swapping out the shift tube shouldn’t cause a no start. I’d start with going back through the column and make sure everything is plugged in good. Some of my 7.3 have the wait to start light not work sometimes but the glow plugs on mine come on and they start. Check the glow plug relay and see if they are on. Also, I’d run all fuses with a test light to see if any popped while u were working. I’ll include a pic of a good no start flow chart that may help
Basic sockets to pull the steering column bolts. Then a torques bit set for the top and rear of the shift tube. I don’t think there was any specialized tools other than that for this job.
@@adamcrealestate can’t argue with that. I have a couple of sticks myself and I love driving them. Best of all you can leave the keys in them and pretty much no one under 40 can steel them. Lmao. Best of luck
