I know we're at 3 years on the video age but I sincerely appreciate all of the information in here, I replaced both power steering and hydroboost with ease thanks to you, please keep more content coming, youre an excellent instructor!
Cannot tell you how thankful I was for this video on power steering pump and hose replacement. Just knowing the socket and wrench sizes was a major time and frustration saver. Thx.
You’re the only one on the RU-vid that shows is properly done. Good job. After removing the battery holder/airbox it’s super simple to get in there and remove the inner cooler tube and bingo. Great job again thanks.
Excellent video. Very professional. LIghting excellent. Camera work excellent. Clear spoken English w/articulate enunciation and volume. Thoroughly explained. Very appreciated.
This is the best explanation video i have seen on you tube ! Now i know why i am paying my mechanicto do it for me wile i build houses for other people !!! As the world turns !! Fantastic explanation of your project !!! I have not seen a better video ! Great job !!!
Best video I've watched on this subject. The only item that would have made it perfect would have been to show how to transfer the push rod from the old unit Hydroboost to the re-manufactured unit. You stated that's what's required but seeing it done would have been great.
AMAZING JOB on this video..!!! I watched it....Took notes .. And now know exactly which wrenches to use ..when and where.. VERY TIME SAVING..!!! Great job with the light and camera work here as well. Ready to tackle the oil cooler O-Rings first, then the steering pump.. and power booster replacement.... and might as well replace the cruise control switch at the same time on a truck with 290,000 miles on it. THANKS FOR YOUR EFFORTS AND INFO HERE..!!!
Excellent job, very well explained. I just broke the little plastic nipple off my power steering pump rewiring my driver's side injector wiring. Oh joy. Thank you for the video. Merry Christmas my friend.
Thank you sir. You saved me atleast a few hundred. I did the hydro brake booster myself on my 04 F550. It was leaking like crazy and the smell was killing me.
Doing this same job right now. Got it all assembled. Did you bleed the brakes after removing the master cylinder and brake lines? Great video, btw. Very thorough. Make more 7.3 PSD videos please.
Great video.i did this on a gas 2012 e350. I did the booster cause it was leaking, but it seemed to be from the inside not the lines or connections. put the new one in and it seems to be leaking from the bottom of the booster as well?? got any ideas? all the lines are dry and connections are dry too? leaks about 2 oz a day
What was the issues being caused? I lost my brakes and power steering I’m thinking the hydroboost unit went bad since I haven’t heard any wining from the pump?
So should I be looking to replace three (3) hose lines? One from the steering pump to the hydroboost, one from hydroboost to the steering gear, and one from the gear to the steering pump?
Good video, thanks for putting up to share. Just need to make sure that people know that you don't actually use power steering fluid in 1999-2003 Powerstrokes. Use automatic transmission fluid, Ford does say that Mercon V is acceptable now. Other than that, outstanding video!!
I’m about to tackle the hydra boost and master cylinder on my 2000 f350. Did you replace the Teflon seals on the high pressure lines? Or did you reuse the originals? Thanks for the vid.
If they came with the new hydro-boost, I would have replaced them. I mention the Teflon seals for the pump, probably didn't mention them again for the hydro-boost since I already had.
Great info. Why did you decide to replace the Hydro-boost? Trying to figure my 01 F250 out. If I brake hard, the front brakes seem to stay engaged until I pump a few times / screw around with them a bit. Recently replaced the master brake cylinder, so not sure if the new master cylinder is the issue or if it's a possible Hydro-boost issue. Thoughts?
Mine was leaking at the accumulator. If the issue you are having didn't happen before the new master cylinder was installed, I'd definitely suspect the master cylinder.
Thanks. Since I was changing the pump and booster for leaks, rather than a failure, I didn’t feel the need to flush. I’m pretty sure there wasn’t much fluid left anyway because most of what was in the lines drained out while working on it.
I installed a new pump, didn't flush as it had a new pump last year, I broke the plastic return line putting on a cold air intake, it only held 3/4 of a quart, works great though.
I HAVE A 1999 PICK UP 250 7.3. CAN YOU SEND ME THE INFORMATION OF HOW TO INSTALL THE 2 HOSES THE HYDRAULIC BOOSTER HOSES. YOUR VIDEO IS GREAT, BUT MY HUSBAND STILL NEEDS MORE INFO. WE LIVE IN HOMESTEAD FLORIDA. YOUR HELP IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED.
Thank you very much sir for your clear and concise instructions. Very well done! I just replaced my pump, but still have a slight whine when turning the wheel. Suggestions on the possible issue? Thanks.
Jack your trucks front end up, to create elevation and a free wheel condition, then pop the cap on your power steering pump turn your wheels lock to lock left ALL THE WAY right ALL THE WAY do this like 40-50 times you can hop out in the mean while and inspect the fluid if its frothy in the fluid looks like cotton mouth spit, you had air keep going until thats no longer occurring then all the lines are clear theyre will be thousands of micro bubbles not huge bubbles
No problem at all brother been resurrecting an 01 and all these videos these fine folks have been posting through the years have been a life saver if I can add 2 cents from my personal experiences with my truck to save someone else a headache ill do it every chance I can! Hope you get it resolved mine drove me nuts with the whine but now no sound at all just strong hydraulic push sound, take care!!!
@@thinkglobalactlocal2975 I have an 02...7.3 Diesel. 175k. Bought it brand new off the show room floor for 41K. Great truck, and I'm very grateful to have youtube's community so we can all share and grow. Peace.
Based on your thorough video I think I figured out my issue. Can’t get the air out of the system, sometimes no ps, while turning the wheel with engine off, wheels raised, fluid dumps from reservoir fill neck. I’m thinking fluid that should be returning through the booster into the reservoir through the hp hose is returning through the return on the booster overflowing the reservoir. Can you discuss?
@@howardsmith876you wouldn’t believe what Ive learned. There is a leak test to do with a vacuum pump. Needs to hold 20in of Hg for 5 min. Keep trying for as long as it takes if it improves over time keeping it at 20in Hg. If it doesn’t, something’s leaking. If the leak is left long enough, the pump will fail. (No PS) The pump I put in from undisclosed parts store, had a leak on the seal so I bought a new one somewhere else, lol. Your leak if found with test, may be anywhere. Now it holds 20in Hg for an hour or more. Pump is quiet. PS is perfect.
Sorry, I have no idea what could be causing that. Does it stall if you turn the steering wheel as well? My first thought might be a wiring issue under the dash close to the brake pedal, but that's just a wild guess. Good luck!
Third video showing the wrong/hard way to do this job. No need to pull alternator and bracket. Alot easier to pull pulley if left in the mounted bracket. Three bolts pumps out, reverse the process. 15 mins
If I was a flat rate mechanic, then I would do everything I could to shave time off the job. But since I'm in my own garage and not "on the clock" the fastest way is not that important to me.
@@SakimasRidgeHomestead I read that you may not have enough room to fit puller tool in there while pump bracket is still mounted to vehicle. Not sure about that, but it would be easier and faster to not have to take bracket off. Either way, I like this video and your method. 👍
