I also have a 2001 B5 A4 and I had this exact same problem and your video was exactly what I needed to do and it worked like a charm! I only wish the last time I had trouble opening it and I was able to get it open, that I had the forethought to spray the latch mechanism with some lubricant. It would have made life a lot easier. Thanks for the video, it saved my butt!
Thanks man! I assumed that plastic grill was screwed from the inside , and I was about to give up . Hopefully my Avant wagon has the same grill and latch...either way kudos for making this helpful vid.
Others maybe interested ...If you do not use synthetic oil the sludge will seize and block the oil filter and the tell tail is the oil light on intermediately the finally on completely thats when its too late ... later sludge will effect the cooling pipes and lead to turbo problem
Thanks - it's a very helpful video! Mine problem being somewhat different - do you have any idea how to approach the situation in case the hood does not pop up, and the lever is still in its fully closed position - indicating that I most probably have a severed cable problem?
Mine got stuck once, but I was able to just simply put a flat head screw driver through the mesh and skip taking the entire grill off. Twist the screw driver, opening the latch.... and boom.
MB7 I tried explaining how to remove grill in the first minute of the video. Use a flat head screw driver. Just be careful when removing the silver/chrome piece.
