Bought a 2001 F150 and was bummed to find out that the cruise control didn't work. This video + $17 at AutoZone + five minutes of work, and now I have working cruise! Thank you!!
At AutoZone: Duralast Cruise Control Release Switch F4044; At O'Reilly: Standard Ignition 2 Terminal Multi-Purpose Switch Part # CCR1. I used the AutoZone part in my 2001 F150 XLT v6 4.2L. Worked perfectly.
I appreciate your help. Great video. For months, I pushed the On button then Set Accelerate and the Cruise light would come on for a fraction of a second. By the time I got around to fixing it,it wouldn’t even come on for the half-second. Easy fix and thanks again
Best advice I've had in a long time. Wouldn't have looked at that switch but when I did it was covered with brake fluid obviously not normal. Thank you!
Thanks, Bill! Found your video while researching the same issue I am having with an 02 Expedition. Your video was extremely helpful in identifying the problem and part and making the repair. Cruise control is once again working after this 5 minute fix!
Tip: @4:30, instead of hooking up to the brown connector, remove the entire wire bundle. The adaptor is made to replace the entire bundle. You just need to trace it back to where they all condense into a single connector. I had a faulty wire, took me an hour to figure out it wasn't the new switch.
This video described the symptoms I had with the cruise control problem on my F-150 and also showed everything needed to know about the replacement procedure. My release switch was contaminated because of being doused by brake fluid spilling out of the reservoir while depressing the pistons during a brake job. Switch from Amazon was $23. Great video...thx!
Fixed my cruise control yesterday on my 2002 F-150 King Ranch by just following this video. Awesome help!!! I got my replacement part at Advanced Auto Parts for $20 and change. I think the part number was CCS1.
Thanks this worked like a charm, $19.99+ tax at Advanced Auto and 15 minutes labor @ my rate made it an inexpensive fix.The biggest issue was breaking loose the 18+ year old defective switch. My only question was I couldn't from the video tell if you had had the halt and catch fire extra harness recall done as your harness was positioned quite differently from mine. I figured you did as all the connections shown, while a different color, were the same. I would also note my added recall harness has a tag stating there is an non-replaceable inline fuse and if it fails the harness must be replace which, at least in my case, is not true. There is a fuse but it is a replaceable 2A automotive blade type fuse (I assume inline) in a rubber holder. Mine was wrapped in tape then zip tied to the recall harness I checked the fuse and it was fine but that might be an extra step if the switch change still fails. Although I'm not sure how a blown fuse manifests itself I guess it would act like an open switch (i.e. brake being applied). Thank again Bill, nice job.
Make sure you remove the entire old harness. The new pressure switch is designed to work with the short cable only. Connecting to the old harness is asking for trouble down the road.
Thank you, found the sensor (oozing oil). Replaced sensor, cleaned up contact and took a test drive. Cruise on at 31 mph, cruise indicator on, truck slowed grrrr, unable to lock in speed or accelerate. Any thoughts? What you said was spot on. Thanks.
I must have another problem as this part didn't fix mine. Old sensor was wet inside with brake fluid so that made me think this part would do the job. BWD part CCS1..By the way your engine bay is spotless..
thx Bro !!!!! almost changed my switch harness, mine's an 03, but exact same XLT, color n Triton ! N light on/off immediately ! appreciate your time !! thx share !!
@Chris Farley id press on, , on left side,, then cruise on right side,, n green CRUISE light, on for moment,, n nothing,, once brake cut off switch, changed,, cruise work's, and green cruise light, stay's on, till I touch brake, n it shut's off, as should, ,, P.S. if your old original switch, is the same as mine, it is ON RECALL, and caused over 500 fire's,, look it up, ,, NO RUMOR, FACT !!!
@Chris Farley mine an 03,,,, but 99-003, same , and if remember right the recall, on that brake cut off switch, run's from little before 99 and well after 03, want to say, 14 million of em , and a huge recall !!! the vid's you see, where, theres a fuse beside the switch, is because, that original owner, brought to Ford, and Mechanic, added fuse, not swap switch, ,, I'd change it Bro !! new comes with a 5" harness, so new switch, can plug into old harness via new harness provided, with new switch, had mine done in minutes. and fixed cruise,, if remember right, took old off 9/16" open end wrench, new is big 7/8" , I gently slipped 7/8" deep socket, over new switch, and gently snugged, , been a few week's, no leak, and cruise great !!
I tried to get it out but it keeps on turning n turning never seem to come up a bit. Would need new master cylinder? Its all corrosion right now and leaking thru the plug.
Hillermann Lima every 3 months use a 50/50 solution of simple green cleaner on a hot motor let it sit for 10 minutes then rinse restart your motor let it run until the motor is dry
Rick Waltch I did test the old one by removing it and tapping it on a hard surface to remove any debris the I replaced it and cruse control worked so I decided to replace it.
Couple of tests after unplugging the sensor: The pressure switch is normally closed. Using an ohm meter, the switch should have continuity between its two pins. Also, you can use a paper clip to short out the two pins in the plug to temporarily see if cruise then works (be sure to protect the paper clip from shorting to anything under the hood during the test drive)
Ford had a recall on the cruise control sensor on all those styles. It was shorting out and starting truck fires 🔥 for year's...if you've got the old style change it immediately.. it leaks through the sensor and covers the electrical plug
My issue when I set the cruise the light comes on and stays on but speed doesn’t hold... cruise indicator stays on until I shut it off or hit the brakes but speed just won’t hold. Any ideas?
Ford normally will not replace pressure switches for free that are not already leaking, they only add a very important 2 amp inline fuse in a pre-assembled mini harness (that has a blue warning label) to interrupt the circuit before a fire can start. Key words are "very" and "important" even with a new style switch.
Harry Ambs sorry I don't have a part number ...but take a photo of yours and take it to any advance auto or auto zone store they should be able to help you.
@@slickwilly116 no it just keeps turning. Like it is stripped. It never loosens. The truck has baked in the Sacramento sun for years i think it has been baked on. That and the heat from the engine. The zip tie that held the harness in place broke in my hand. I think I am going to have to take it in to have it fixed. I was trying to save myself some money. I did try.
