The most memorable ride i had on my wide glide was I rode back from Devon on a freezing cold February day .As I went by stonehenge the road was empty and the sun was just going down behind Stonehenge as I approached it late afternoon .The sound of that twin screaming eagles pipes and the sight of stonehenge as I went past was something you only experience on a Bike. That was in 05 and never forgot it .Oh and yes I still have the wide glide .
That Wide Glide looks awesome! I have a 1995 EVO Wide Glide. It has 14,000 miles and runs like a new bike. I had it sold twice and both times the buyers backed out. Man, I am glad they did. I really love that bike!
My frind I'm 65. Iv got my 1st. Harley and I git the 02 wide glide you will like this bick ! I git the custom bick I Reilly like it . Good riding bicker brother
You will love the bike my friend, I have a 2000 Dyna wide Glide in the maroon and black colors with about the same miles as yours. Have had for 2 years now. My first Harley. Have always had Japanese bikes because that was what I could afford too 😉
That’s a nice Wide Glide! I just bought my first Harley, a 2003 FXDL Low Rider … bought it from a guy at my work, paid cash for it … has 42,xxx miles on it, runs great! Now I just have to to get used to riding it … lol
I enjoy the old 88's also. Have 2002 fatboy, 2002 HERITAGE SPRINGER, really low miles. 9,400 on fat boy, 10, 670 on HERITAGE SPRINGER. Really enjoy your chanel. Keep up the good work. Old guy here too.
Make sure you check those cam tensioners. If that plastic that the cam chains ride on crumble and the metal falls off it can destroy both top end and bottom. It is quite expensive to change over to the 2007 and above hydraulic tensioners plus the improved oil pump and cam plate. This should be the first thing you do is at least replace the cam tensioners. Better yet buy the whole kit that has the new hydraulic tensioners, oil pump and cam plate. It is expensive but well worth it. You can do it yourself however some special tools are needed. Have fun I had a 2005 Wide Glide and I loved it. Not sure why you got rid of the dyna switchback I thought they are much better to ride than a Sportster or Wide Glide.
Your soooo gonna love that wide glide brother. I have two an 05 and an 07. Your gonna be searching for that 6th gear that ain't there till you get used to it. I did on my 05 anyway. 07 does have the 6th gear. I don't get rid of any of my bikes. I also have an 02 lowrider and a 57 Ironhead. Love them all. I'm digging on the luggage rack on the rear fender. Didn't know they even made it and now I have to have one. Thanks for posting and I hope you have many miles of joy my brother. Stay safe, take care and may the motorcycle Gods be with you.
Make sure to check those cam chain tensioners. My 2005 wide glide has the old spring mount ones as well and they’ve been known to fail. Mine were pretty beat up at the 18k mark I noticed this fall. My buddy has a 2000 heritage soft tail as his went out at 44k so it’s really a shot in the dark when they fail.
I just picked up a 04 Wide Glide, left the sporty behind. I may sell it not sure at this point. But I love the wide glide and can't wait to cruise to the east coast from MN in July! I hope to meet you on the road some day! Stay safe!
Opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one. Have a Dyna 2006 that I wouldn't trade for all your Hondas, Yamahas, Suzukis, or any other rice burner in the world.
Bought a 03 Dyna Wide Glide that was not taken care of. Going through it now, new parts, old parts and a new paint job. Can't wait to get it back together and ride it
Awesome bike brother! I just bought a 2010 dyna wide glide! I love it! I hope to be riding soon I've been doing alot of neglected maintenance the previous owner didn't do! You have one sharp bike brother!! Keep rocking and be free bro!!!🦅🎸🦅🔥🔥🔥
I ride an 11’. I knew it was the one the first time I saw one when they were “re introduced in 2010. Took me 10 years to be able to afford one, 13 months and about 15,000 miles on it so far. I now find my self in a position financially that I could buy any bike I want. My friends are all on baggers, I have looked at them and ridden a few but none of them make my belly button pucker like my FXDWG.
Yeah man I am buying these things up. All Dynas. Next 5 years or so they gonna be the Mustang and Camaro and roadrunners of the bike world. Dynas were arguably some of the best bikes Harley ever made. People gonna remember that.
Not really, in fact I have always felt having a skinny 21 inch wheel makes bikes less stable, this is the third bike I have owned with 21 inch wheel, previously on a Xl Custom and on a Honda Shadow Spirit, but they look cool. Thanks for watching.
2:32 the FXWG was first introduced in 1980 along with the 80 ci shovelhead both were only made for 4 years 1980-1984 making them some of the rarest HD's out there even amongst other shovelheads..here's my numbers matching 1983 FXWG with 6500 original miles ---> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6L9OSBw979s.html
The FXWG was introduced in 1980 with an 80" Shovelhead, 4 speed kickstsart transmission, and a Wide Glide front end. FXWG production ended in 1985 with the only Wide Glide with an Evolution engine. The FXDWG is a different animal than the FXWG. You and I are local.
I’m 65 and I just bought a 2010 Wide Glide with 10300 miles on the upgrade electric speedometer/ tachometer,it came with the soft bags like my 03 100year anniversary bike came with. Plus it has a windshield with a leather tool bag in the bottom of it. Looks and rides like brand new. Got it from a young man for a little bit below blue book. I’m gonna love this one just like my old low rider. Merry Christmas to me! God is good.
Nice bike! I am in the UK and have a 2002 wide glide with a custom tank, lowered shocks, turnout exhaust, custom seat, higher bars, custom speedo and ghost flame paint job. best bike I have ever ridden!
I kinda wish I'd bought a dyna, or kept my Electraglide, this 97 Heritage Softail is a killer on my back! Getting old is a bitch, but then again it's better than the alternative. Ride free brothers! Seeya
@@HippieBiker1369 that's weird. I had the change to ride for a few times my buddy's 2011 Street Bob and I was blown away by its engine power compared to my Sportie.
@@GeorgeVrachliotis the 2011 has a larger displacement engine than the 2001, thus more torque and hp. 2001 88 ci, 2011 96 ci. It was with 96 ci which finally gave the Big Twins a slight edge over the Sportster.
For the most part I agree and I miss my Sportster. Saying that the wide glide is more comfortable on long rides. Thanks for watching and your input, ride safe. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H--B03GG_xc.html
I went from a 2000 Sportster Sport to 03 FXDWG. It's nicer on the highway but it doesn't handle as well and the breaking is not even close. Love the dual front disc on the SS. The SS got stolen otherwise I'd still be riding it. Besides the V Rod the SS is the funnest HD I"ve ridden.
I found a 2000 model carbureated FXDWG, this past February 2021. It was so clean with only 22,200 miles on it, I just had to buy it. I've been riding a StreetGlide for years, and this WideGlide is so much lighter and nimble. Two totally different rides. Keep in mind, the early model TwinCam engines have the spring loaded Cam chain shoes. They need to be replaced every 25,000 to 40,000 miles. They shoes need to be checked every 10,000 miles after the first 20,000 miles.
Having around 20K on it, probably a good time to check that cam chain tensioner. I love my 2000 Wide Glide. (similar mileage, got it up on the rack as we speak). Enjoy the new bike!
Hey there!! Looking for some helpful advise.. I have the opportunity to purchase (from a friend) a 2001 Harley Wide Glide 88 Cam. 14K Miles. I have always rode Honda Cruisers so this would be the first Harley. Do you think this would be a wise purchase since it is more than 20 years old. The bike is in great condition... Garage kept. Is it even worth the trouble??? i have an '08 so I would be getting an older bike.
If it is as you say, age shouldn't matter if your friend kept up on the maintenance. One thing everyone on here kept telling me was to upgrade my cam chain tensioner because apparently it was somewhat problematic with the early twin cams. I had it inspected by a mechanic I trust 2 months ago when I had service done to the bike. It was in great shape no wear or signs of a problem. We talked about upgrading he suggested for now to just inspect it periodically.
That's what I have been reading about, that same issue has come up. Thanks for the advice. I wanna pull the trigger on it and being that it has low miles on it, seems like a good buy. he's asking $5000.00
Is it a heavy bike? My son and I just got our licenses together and I was thinking of a similar bike. Not sure if this would be to large to start out with.
@@HippieBiker1369 Thanks for the response. Thats helpful information. I'll have to go to a dealer and try and sit on a few different styles. There's something about the wide glide style that draws me to it.
You're gonna love it. My 02' FXDWG has about 12k more miles than yours and is still runnin strong. I just put another 100 miles on it yesterday and plan on doing it again tomorrow. If you're interested you can check it out on my channel on some of my earlier videos. I know you said finances are tough, but, there's nothing stopping you from getting another Sportster if you wanted to. I picked up a running 95" XL1200 for $1,200 in 2019. They're out there. That's one of the fun things about being on the hunt for those barn finds.
@Juggleupjuggleup you don't like movies? People need to get a life. Hippie Biker is used in jest. It's a term I heard used aimed at long-haired bikers during the 60s, 70s, 80s, etc. In reality, "biker" can be a motorcyclist, bicyclist, etc. As for Hippie, there really wasn't such an animal except made up in the minds of journalists and pop marketing of the youth movement. Personally, I have identified as a "hippie" along with my schoolmates since the 7th grade (1967). I have identified with motorcycling since I can remember, riding on the back of my father's WL or his Indian chief. Since I continued to become a motorcyclist into my adulthood and, for the most part, except when I was a soldier, I tend to wear my hair long, listen to the same "Hippie" music of my youth and ride my Harley-Davidson. I resemble the Term "Hippie-Biker" and if any have a problem with that, they can go ahead and make an appointment with a counselor.
