I currently own an '01 UL and the radar adaptive cruise is in full working order. To put it lightly, the system was WAY ahead of its time. A car merges in front of me? No problem, the car will slow itself down all the way to about 30 mph. The car in front of me speeds up? LS430 shoots right back up to cruising speed which can be set all the way to 85mph. You can cruise on an express way with medium traffic and never have to touch a pedal, its absolutely incredible.
@@unokim5452 yup! I wish I hadn’t discovered this vehicle so soon because now every other car I will ever own will feel mediocre at best in comparison lol
@@Triple259772 no it’s not that good like modern adaptive cruise control. The car will beep at me if the person in front of me is REALLY slowing down and I’ll have to take over. The car will only slow down so much from the initial set cruise speed.
In Dubai every teenager to older people wants own a Lexus LS 430 and even though locals have more expensive and luxury cars they roll around in LS430. Every next car to a house in Fujairah state of UAE is a Lexus LS430 even after 20 years.
Great review. This really is a world-class sedan that showcases Toyota’s perfectionist mindset. It’s undeniable while MANY have thrown the monicker, “greatest car ever built.”
Here in 2022, as a buyer. The resounding support and love of this car in the comments of your video just highlight the buyers confidence I have for an excellent purchase. Great review to be fair. Very concise and meticulous. Regards.
Awesome job explaining the LS 430, but the one feature no one talks about are the puddle light features ( you know the lights under both rearview outside mirrors ). I own a 2001 LS 430 also and I love it.
Great coverage. FYI rear Seat massagers have a continuously variable switch. Oscillating vents. They are controlled according to the temperature set independently on the driver side and the passenger side They can change the degree of oscillation corresponding to the different set temperatures for each front seat passenger. For example, if I want warm for the driver and the passenger wants cold air, it will only isolate the warm air on my side without a full sleep. Similarly only isolating the cold air on the passenger side. When you equalize the temperatures, the vents will get a full sweep, side to side synchronistically. Much more sophisticated than most people realize. The system is so good that you can put out 90° on the driver side on the lower level foot well and side window upper ven for driver and then 60° on the passenger side upper vents. Thats pretty nifty. My Benz only suggested a 5* variation. If you set it in bi-mode, feet and cabin vents, it will send the heat to the warmer side lower level and one window vent. The cooler side, upper vents only, one Center and one window. In the U.P. Specked version(ultra premium luxury level) an independent rear seat controls system is manipulable as well with roof side window vent for A/C Remember the rear seat console has heat A/C controls and electric seat heater. Furthermore the rear window has the filtration fan integrated in the complex system. It has mixed A/C + filtration settings up front also. Had a 400, own a 2001 LS 430 UP and a 460, L awd, 2010. Executive package without seat dividers console, rare specifications, has a TV between rear seats, integrated on to the front Console. DVD. Hooked on RU-vid 15 years. Never have encountered anyone who truly conceptualize the system. I dint explain it all for the 430. My 460 has 3k pages of owners manuals. I don’t think I’ll ever master it. Ugh. Lol. But it turn me on knowing the potential.
my G, The level of quality you bring to this video is amazing, from the car to camera work to angels and editing its all amazing. Thank you for the most satisfying videos on RU-vid
The 6-speed in the 04-06 is actually the stronger of the two transmissions. It tends to get a bad rap because it doesn't have a dipstick, which makes drain and fills a little less user-friendly, but it's not too bad of a procedure to do.
My biggest concern with buying an ultra luxury is the stock radio. It’s garbage so it’s a good relief that after market radios can have the software for the climate controls
I Own This Exact Car In Green! Only Thing I’ve Had To Replace Is Control Arms & O2 Sensor. My Daughter Loves The Massage Seats Lol. Only Has 108k My Dad Still Owns His 94 LS400 He Bought In 1995! Has Only 83k!
Great car! Lexus makes quality stuff. I have a small tiny Lexus. A 2008 Lexus IS250. Still runs great and super reliable. My parents however have the generation of LS after this one. The LS460. What a lovely car that is also. Have you had the chance to review the model after this, the LS460?
Great review! Great car! Looking at used Mercs and now Lexus. This is definitely a top of the list car now! (sidenote: the audio is Mark Levinson-the L is part of the M)
been really interested in your content, i first found out about it from the 05 scion xb stock video. this video and last video has been great, wish you the best
Have you done a review of an LS460L. I have an 2014 ls460l and would be interested in your thoughts. I kind of regret not getting an LS 430 at half the price.
@@Mabeylater293 most owners feel this way. They say "different" but not surprising. It's decently documented on the forums as well. I didn't really enjoy my 430 until about 3 years of ownership.
I like the ls430 but I’m preferential to the F sport. The luxo boxes are nice but it’s a little sedate. I like the radar option which my ls460f doesn’t have. I missed that and lane assist from my Infiniti I had. The dependability of the Infiniti was the reason I went back to Lexus. I had GS450H at one point. I’ll prob go to the LC500 when those get older. I stay away from turbo 6 cylinder. Bad decision for Lexus to convert the LS to that engine. My two cents
The only negative I find (and my wife also) is that after 15 - 20 minutes the seat bottoms literally become insufferable PITAs. IDK what the solution is; is it reupholstery or replacement with something like Recaro? And would replacements even interface with Lexus electronics?
personal opinion here, but i think LS 430 is not a timeless car, i can tell this was a luxury car made in the 2000s by a glorified toyota brand that competes with Mercedes and BMW, what i think of a timeless car, it would be a modern Saab. like the late Saab 9-5 from 2012. somehow the engineers and designers made it looks so timeless, so much so that even if the car was released today in 2022, it will still looks convincingly new
Thank you for the review. Could Paul, the owner, get the radar adaptive unit fixed from a local mechanic rather than spend $2000 to have the Lexus dealership fix it?
@@michaels4640 I think it is like $1200 per door where they change the whole actuator. And it could be more if they have to change the controller . If you are good at fixing things, then you can do it for $12 by changing a small part! But I am not a DIY person when it comes to cars...
It depends. Only one I'd avoid would be '01 base. Not a bad car, just missing some features they came out with in 02+. Some colors only some years, including wood interior. Just do your research. If I had the exact same 02 I have, but with 04-06 options I would trade. But I'm happy with the 02 base as is. Hope that helps!
It's not 'the best used car you can buy' as people are holding onto these as if they're gold bullion. There's only 9 of these for sale in the whole of Europe. A well cared for example will also run you around €13k, which is insane money for a 20 year old car with ~150.000km. It might be the full stop best car ever though. Especially when you consider how hilariously unreliable the E65 and the W220 were in this first era of electronic luxury stuff gone insane, and this being near bulletproof with basically the same type of stuff. With fuel creeping past €2 / liter (that's NINE dollars per gallon for our American friends) this car has sadly become unuseable for long distances. That's why I ultimately ended up in a GS450 hybrid, even though I was researching these and also the LS460's for a really long time.
The six speed is just as reliable if not even more reliable. Plus the 6 speed you don’t AND YOU SHOULDN’T replace the transmission fluid. Lifetime fluid.
In Japan where honor is held in high esteem you don’t get off the assembly line until perfection is achieved. And EVERY worker on the assembly line can stop the line if they choose to! In the U.S. you have people making $30 an hour going to the washroom every hour, while in possession of an EBT WELFARE FOOD STAMPS.HOW PATHETIC! Go try that in a third world country.
Pretty amazing how much tech this car had for its time period. I also definitely recognize the area you filmed in was Plainfield, IL. But great review, and definitely very thorough and detailed!
Great review!! I own this same car. Changed the timing belt at 101,000. I'm at 135,000 5 years later. I want something else but this car spoiled me. Can't think of a reason to replace it.
love my 2001 UL. I've had it a bit over 1 year now. it even came with aftermarket air suspension :) I'm always driving to different places because of work (construction), and this is the perfect daily to do just that. comfortable, quiet, nice interior, runs strong and has good pull for being a 20y/o car...and it looks nice. what more could you want
