Thanks for the video! This allowed me to change the struts on my 2001 Pathfinder LE. Overall, great video. A couple of comments-- (1) Unless you are very lucky, you will need a pass-through socket set and 8mm allen key to remove the sway bar link. If you have any friction at all on the threads, the ball joint just spins in the socket. The design of the bracket that connects to the strut prevents use of an open-end wrench on the nut. If you don't have a pass-through socket set, you might be able to get by with a vice grip clamped down on a deep socket, which is what I did. (2) I think it got lost in the video edit, but for that top bracket which covers the upper strut mounting screws, you don't actually have to remove that nearly-impossible to reach lower screw. Just remove the upper bracket that attaches to the lower bracket (which is the one mentioned in the video, and attached to the wheel well frame), remove the two top-accessible bolts from the lower bracket, then bend the lower bracket a little forward to access that innermost strut bolt. Be careful not to drop the screws or you will have to remove your skid plate to retrieve. (3) if you have the LE or AWD option, strut manufacturers recommend protecting the drive shaft boot. I just put some thick cardboard over it to prevent any chance of the strut tearing it while installing or removing.
yes just did my struts on my 02 PATHY, the sway bar links were the biggest pain, has to hold one side with a vice grip as my dad un screwed the bolt. also replaced both sway bars as well, other then that very easy to remove and change thank you for the video and appreciate all the help both of you
Hello. Thank you for posting your question. You will need to use an Allen wrench to hold the center bolt and a wrench to remove the nut. However, do not remove the bolt without compressing the spring and have it secured.
Hello. Yes, is always a good practice to do an alignment after major component replacement. Thank you for posting your question, and please consider subscribing to the channel and God bless you.
Hi there, I really appreciate you making this video! 2 questions, do you have to rotate the strut mount in order for it to line up? And also how were you able to get your knuckle drop down so low? My knuckle will not drop down low enough for me to place the strut assembly in there
Hello. Thank you for posting your question. Put the floor jack under the lower control arm and control how much the strut drops. I hope this helps keep me posted. God bless you and have a great weekend.
@@gqautodiagnostics I did support the knuckle as I took the old strut assembly out, but my knuckle did not fall as low as yours did in your video. Even when I removed the support from the jack
