I have a 2003 EZ GO TXT just replaced the carburetor, fuel pump, filters. Cart sat for a while. Runs pretty good. Boggs down on inclines in forward. Although has no issues in reverse, actually drove it back to my campsite in reverse last night.
I have a EZGO Workhorse ST350 2007. Bought it this month. Did not know anything until your vids. Did two carb cleanings, set the valves and now it blows carbon out the exhaust. Has low compression also. Was supposed to be rebuild.
my ezgo will go and stop a few times then go to go and just clicks for a number of times. Sits for about 15 min then starts again. Does it regularly thru out the day. Any suggestions?
Love the videos, I can't wait for you to post one of you replacing the belts on an EZ GO TXT of this era. It's always a struggle and I'm hoping you have some good tips. Keep up the great content.
Belts are fairly straight forward. You need to remove the drive belt in order to change the starter/generator belt. It takes brute force to roll the drive belt over the secondary clutch. Make sure the cart is in neutral, key off, brakes locked.
Kevin, I have an 06 Yamaha gas cart, it don't move I either direction, you hear something turning but not going anywhere either direction. Then some times it grabs and your fine. It seems like it happens when it sits over night. The cart is hardly used, maybe three months out of the year. Then it sits again until the following year when we come back to house. Anything I should be looking for, you hear it wanting to go, but nothing happens
Just had a Club Car with this issue at random. They installed a FORD solenoid (not designed for constant duty as in a Golf Car) and all the wires were loose! It was hotter than a fire cracker when I had reproduced the issue it came in with.
Kevin, I have a 2003 ezgo txt. Question: Can an electric `12 volt fuel pump be substituted for the factory pump? Factory pump has three ports, input, output and pulse. The electric pump only has two, input and output. If this can be done, what becomes of the pulse line?
You "can" use an electric pump. The vacuum pumps are more than adequet for the job. Is there a reason you want to switch to electric? You would have to plug off the vacuum line or cap the port on the engine. If you do use an electric pump, make sure its no more than 1 psi. Higher pressures will push gas past the float valve.
The fact that you verified the corrosion issue with the cable connectors, it means that the battery was more than likely undercharged. You checked charging voltage and it was ok. Before you performed a load test on the battery, it should've been charged. That's the reason the tester rendered the battery bad. It was undercharged due to the corrosion at the cable connectors. You could've verified the condition of the battery by cranking the engine for 15 - 30 seconds with the coil disconnect and checked the cranking voltage. Minimum cranking voltage is 9.6 vts.
Wish you lived closer. I tried this and nothing new. 😞 It is an 08 Club Car Precident and it just quit running. It tries to turn over but the motor doesn't actually run. It's sounds like something is dragging but it just can't quite turn over the engine.
See my problem is that I washed mine, and it started making this loud beeping sound that wouldn't stop. I took my seat off left it in the sun to dry out cause someone told me its common just dry it out. Now when you hit the pedal it does nothing. When you put it in reverse it doesn't make that annoying warning beep, but the lights will come on, and my battery is fully charged. If you got any ideas I appreciate it in advance.
Hi Kevin. Your videos are great! I was hoping that you could help me troubleshoot my Dad’s 2000 EZGO TXT. Nothing happens when you step on the gas pedal….no clicking. When you turn the key on the headlights, horn, and reverse buzzer all work. I replaced the solenoid and system fuse without any luck. Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.
Great information - I'll check and clean as suggested. If the battery is indeed the problem, what type and size of battery do you recommend for my 2001 TXT. Thanks
My cart backfires going down a hill when under power. Also when driving slowly it's not running as it does at higher speeds. Valves have been adjusted and carb checked. Mechanic that keeps adjusting doesn't have hills to check and it continues to backfire.
I had same problems with my older yamaha I just bought wouldn't idle or run smooth at low speed but would take off and go if you kept the pedal down. It was the gas pedal switch it had 2 wires I connected the 2 with a short jumper wire and now it runs and drives great. So I can either replace it or leave it as it is and start it and shut it off with the key. The switch is located under the floor pan at the pedal. Hope this helps
I have a similar problem now. Thought I may have a solenoid problem - but not sure. Question on the cart that you worked on in the video… Would the motor have started on the cart prior to your battery work - if you had jumped the solenoid with a screwdriver?
I have a 98 ezgo, this one idles, tries to run and eventually will and runs great. If I put on a Jack, fires up like a champ. I haven’t a clue what to do next? Any advise?
i have the same cart with the same problem. i am no mechanic but figured i could get some answers on you tube. i just found your channel and have been watching it for the last few hours. it's GREAT !!! i've had my cart for years and so many things you have covered are very helpful. i'm sure you are busy but was wondering if you could steer me towards some help on trouble shooting 12 volt electric problems. i bought a new battery, and put on new terminals (just like ones you used.) still no crank. i bought a cheap meter and says i have 13.38 volts. do i have to have the lights circuit connected to run the cart ? i'm suspecting a short , because the battery went dead while cart was running . now no crank , nothing , zada ,zilch! thanks for your videos and any thoughts would be appreciated. Bob
I'm glad you are enjoying my videos! A lot of work goes into making them. No, you don't need the lights connected for anything else to work. Be sure that you have the polarity correct. The back cable goes to positive (+), the bare, braided cable goes to Negative (-). There is a master fuse under the black cover next to the battery. Its possible its blown. If the battery goes dead, you probably have a bad voltage regulator, located in the same location.
I’ve got a Yamaha that does the same thing. But if you spin the clutch a little then give it gas. It will take off. Could that be the throttle position sensor?
If its a carbureted Yamaha, then then there is no TPS. Rolling the clutch a little and it starts tells me the brushes in the starter/generator are bottoming out or sticking.
You can replace the brushes. I would pull the rubber covers and check them. If they are wore out, just replace them and you should be good. I have a few videos on changing out brushes.
Love all the videos! I’ve got an 03 gas ezgo txt that runs continuously for 5-10 minutes and then once I stop for a second and go again the engine loses all power and barely revs up when In gear. I have to wait till the engine cools down for 10-15 minutes till it runs normally. Ive dialed in the lash. Carb has been adjusted a few times with same results. Coil replaced and tested. Spark plugs replaced and tested. It just overheats after 5-10 minutes of stop and go use. Are gas golf carts designed for continuous use? Just very desperate for any suggestions. Thanks!
I would double check your valve lash on a COLD engine. Make sure its set at .004". As for the carb, there really isn't anything to adjust that would affect running. I'm thinking CDI is failing. If you replaced the coil, it will be aftermarket and those are terrible. Unfortunately, there aren't any OEM available. EZGO still sells the CDI for these but, its nearly $400. Be sure to use NGK spark plugs, NGK FR2BD. You will need to check and see if you are actually losing spark when it "overheats". If you still have spark, then your issues is fuel delivery or valves. You need to do a compression test hot and cold to see if you have a loss of compression.
Great job on your videos. I have a question for you about my 2007 ezgo txt gas. I replaced lots of parts ,full tune up with new belts and battery now the motor runs solid. Only problem I still have is it moves slowly then picks up speed (17 mph). After I stop it goes slowly and slowly picks up a little speed at a time. Do you have any advice for me? Thanks in advance.
Make sure your brake pedal isn't hanging and the brakes are dragging. You may have a bad throttle cable that's sticking not allowing the throttle to move smoothly. You could have some debris in the carburetor partially blocking a jet. Is it lifted? If it is, that has changed the geometry of the drivetrain and you lost a lot of torque. It could be any number of things so without really seeing it, I can't really narrow it down.
I have a 1998 Ezgo Txt and it’s hard starting, the spark plugs are wet and not much fuel in the filter. Any ideas would be appreciated as to the wet plugs situation……
I have an 05 EZ Go gasser with a 9hp Robin in it. When I put it back in forward from reverse it just grinds for a bit and eventually it goes forward. I've taken to trying not to put it in reverse but sometimes like trailering there's no choice. Is that a clutch or transmission issue?
What exactly triggers the start sequence on the cart ? the gas pedal makes the solenoid engage ? then what makes it die when you let up on the gas ? I'm, curious ,t hanks
EZGos with the 2 cylinder Robin have electronic ignition. When you let off the pedal, it cuts power to the ignition and start circuits. Most other carts have magneto ignition and have a kill circuit built into the pedal switch or a relay.
Hi, I see that you recommend that the valve lash is 004 I have also read online that it should be 004. I am in the UK and I was told buy a guy that repairs them here that he recommends that I set it to 008 because of the environment. What do you think of this?
That seems a bit too much. I'd run with .004 inches (not mm) and see how it runs. If you are having loss of power and/or starting issues, creep up to .006". Get yourself a compression tester so you can verify that this is your issue before you start chasing an issue that you may not have.
That's going to depend on how your setup is. Are you using the standard starter/generator with a custom clutch? Are you using the electric starter that comes on the engine? If you are using the starter on the engine, you cannot use the pedal to start the engine. This will keep the starter running the entire time the pedal is depressed and will destroy the starter. This is like turning the key in your car and holding it in start mode while driving. You need to wire it to a push button or key switch.
Love your videos Kevin!!! I watch a lot of them as I have been attempting to rebuild my 98 txt gas ezgo cart …. I did a full rebuild on the engine and carbs changed all electrical except for the starter / generator!! But still can’t get spark … I did short out the starter when first put back together … have great compression and have fuel just can get spark lol Any ideas please help !! Lol
You might have killed the CDI. Those are very sensitive to shorts. Typically people kill then when they hook the battery up backwards. Since you did a rebuild, I would check the clearance on the pickup coil on the flywheel. That thing needs to be just barely scraping the flywheel to work properly. I had a few older carts come in that had that same issue until I moved the pickup coil closed to the flywheel.
@@Kevinsgolfcarts hey Kevin…. Thanks for the tip I will look into that …. I already did replace the CDI and voltage regulator and igniter coil still nothing … so it could be the spacing or did I do damage to some windings in the starter / generator?
I don't do anything that isn't on the repair order. If they want to pay us to wash it, we will. I wouldn't want to pay for a transmission when I asked the mechanic to do an oil change, would you?
