I love how you "troubleshoot" your meter when you got no voltage reading of the battery and didn't immediately assume a dead battery. And my back is envious of your back. All that work leaning over and reaching in caused my back to ache! That tip on using the brush spring to hold the brushes out for reassembly is simple and brilliant. Excellent work, thanks for posting.

I recently got a job at a golf cart repair shop and I'm wanting to learn from the other technicians, however I am not learning what I want to be learning so I found your video channel and I'm watching your videos and I'm learning much more than I would at my job. Now, if I am given a cart to repair, I have confidence to diagnose the problem and fix it, thanks to your videos. 😀

It's a lot easier if you remove it from the rear of the cart, simply remove the 2 torx bit screws to remove large service panel in the golf bag well, just saying😉👍

Good video and character. Thanks. I will be taking my starter/generator off my ez go st 480 soon and checking my brushes. Pretty sure this is my issue. Hopefully my commutator looks good.

I think my cart EZGO has the same problem (starter/generator) as the video. Runs intermittenly. Curious to know if you fixed your problem yourself or did you wind up taking to a golf mechanic. If you did fix it yourself, what kind of problems, if any, did you run into?

@@tomhester1406 I did get it going. My wires were really corroded so I decided to redo the whole charging system. When I took off the motor I still opened it up and my commutator and brushes looked great. The wires leading from the brushes were corroded. Maybe I'll rebuild it someday. I also ordered a voltage regulator and a solenoid. Added lugs to all my new wires and it has been running ever since. If you do it yourself I would first check the battery terminals when it is running. You can lift the back side tires up with a jack or you can rig up some leads from the battery so you can check voltage while driving. You should get 14.5. If you do not, than you can narrow it down from there. I did find the green wire from the voltage regulator to DF terminal on the motor was unhooked. I also found my solenoid spring on the bottom was completely gone. EZGO has one of the best manuals for this model, I have ever seen, so make sure to print that out.

@@kurtthompson3390 Well, I actually took it to a golf repair shop, they replaced the accelerator switch, in which they thought was the problem. Got the cart back a week ago and it ran perfect 1st day out. Played a couple of days later, same ol' problem. Cart would run good for a while, then got in the cart, stepped on the gas and the motor would just barely turn over. After several pumping the pedal attempts, the cart will eventually get going. This happens 3-5 times a round, just like it did before I took it to the shop. I have a gas 2008 Ezgo RXV. I did replace the solenoid, which I originally thought was the problem, didn't fix it, but it did help. I saw this video and I am thinking it is the starter generator brushes. I'm not very mechanically inclined so I guess I'll take it back to the shop repair. I've always been afraid of taking something apart and either not being able to put it back together or nor not running or working at all. Anyway, thanks for your response and have a good day, sir.

@@tomhester1406 I had the same symptoms. It does make you think there is something wrong with the pedal, but I noticed the battery was dead every time. It takes a lot of battery power in the beginning to start the engine and if you don't get that 14.5 volt charge it will eventually drain the battery. Hope you figure it out.

my starter works when I jump it. Solenoid has continuity and clicks when i took it off and connected it to the battery as well. Any ideas? or could it still be the solenoid?

with solenoid off I dont get 12v going through the two big posts when hooked to a 12v battery. does that mean bad solenoid?

my G2 yamaha cranks but will not engage forward or in reverse suspect clutch assembly ....your thoughts

If its only cranking and not starting, then you have a different issue. You will have to check for spark and make sure fuel is getting to the carb. If so, then pull the carb and clean it. If the engine still does not start, then you have other issues. Clutches will not cause the engine to not start.

In terms of reliability, what does better the Kawasaki or Robin engines?

If the oil and filter are changed regularly, the Kawasaki is bulletproof. The Robin had an issue with blowing the fan side connecting rod if it wasn't maintained. At least this was the case that I saw regularly with low maintained engines.

Will stuck brushes cause no charging and only starts if battery full charged?

Its possible. You will have to pull the starter/generator out and inspect the brushes. This would be the time to replace them.

Depends on the area. I charge by the hour. Actual time will depend on how easily or difficult the starter comes out and what other issues are related to it.

Hi kevin im in same profession electric only i have a 2009 electric with a nasty hi pitch whine noise flush the gear box there are a bunch of these where i work any help i will post a video on my channel please take a peek thanks like your work style !

It could be brush whine. This usually is a high pitch sound that increases as the cart speed increases. You would have to pull the electric motor off the transaxle to inspect them.

Ahh, one of those. Yeah, they are a 3-phase AC motor and have a bit of a whine.
