It was just a matter or time.... If you own a 1st gen Honda Pilot you will probably see the flashing driving light someday. In my case it was caused by a P0872 code, which is very common. In this video I will show you how to replace the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches. The correct part numbers for my 2005 are below (Amazon Paid Links). You will want to double check the correct part numbers for your model year, because they did change multiple times through the first generation. You can look them up on hondapartsnow.com Honda Genuine 28600-RKE-004 Pressure Switch amzn.to/3YBtOoo Honda Parts 28610-RKE-004 Pressure Switch amzn.to/3JShv2W

you have them backwards you put in the right ones but keep calling them the other ones third is under black shroud (the black one) the beige one is above it the 4th! correct?
@JackofAllMasterofNone
@JackofAllMasterofNone Год назад
You are correct. The 3rd pressure switch is the black one and 4th is the beige one. Like you said I installed them correctly but referred to them wrong in this video. For everyone's reference, the part number for the 3rd pressure switch (the black one) is 28610-RKE-004 and the 4th (beige one) is 28600-RKE-004

So the first sensors you removed are actually the OE Honda colored sensors, they switched the colors to black and beige. I actually installed aftermarket brands with good reviews, I replaced the OE already once so I’m trying the aftermarket brand see what happens! Good video!

It’s salvable no need to change the transmission nor junk the vehicle. I FIX the same issues on my 2004 pilot with 289,000 miles and fix it like new by changing both the two 3rd and 4th pressure switches located under the plastic cover just behind the driver side wheel and also the shift selector near by that was damaged and didn’t show the other gears when shifting gears, it was like the other LED’s disappeared and most time the vehicle was stuck in Parking also had an errático Bucking when first accelerating or shifting from 1-2 gear or 3-4. sometimes the joker will act as if I put it in Neutral after coming to stop lights it was a circus. When working with this pilots you have to start from simplex to complex troubleshooting and try it all. Either-way it will be better than replacing the entire transmission unnecessarily. #1) if it’s a once in a while thing, do the 3 or 4 section transmission flushes using 3 or 4 gallons of highly millage automatic transmission fluid from Walmart ( see other RU-vid videos) aprox 140 this May fix the problem or buy you some time before step #2. #2) do the fluid and changes as mentioned before and change the 3rd and 4th pressure sensors located behind the driver wheel plastic cover( one is brown and the upper is black or vice verse) DO NOT BUY THE CHEAP GENERIC SENSOR from eBay or amazons, IT WONT CLEAR THE FAULT, I WASTED MY MONEY and almost JUNKED my Pilot. I learned this the hard way and almost junk the vehicle, I bunt into a 2003 pilot at the junk yard and removed couple parts including this two sensors finally replacing the cheaply mistake with old OEM parts just for jerk and giggles and it fix the problem, stopped the blinking D. #3) I did all the above and could see where my gears where landing after changing from one another except D and P and a briefly lighting as I moved the stick between them, so Inwent back to the junk yard and pull the transmission Shifter sensor, this was a 250 dollar mouse size part with a harness at authozone that I was able to get at the junk yard for 75 and shannam, boom it worked like new. So don’t just have up on your pilots for this, give it a try.

You have to drain transmission fluid to replace those sensors?? Or you can change without changing fluid?

2008 Honda Pilot EX-L, Honda Genuine ATF (recently drain and filled x 3 times), 233k miles, no codes, no flashing lights, no check engine light. I started experiencing harder shifting. RPM goes up before it switches. I am wondering if it is worth replacing them or is my transmission just worn out?

Genuine Honda for less than cost price to a dealer? Those aren't genuine switches but the Amazon seller may have located a OEM manufacture, but likely you bought Rostra switches.

@@JackofAllMasterofNone Theres no way that you got a dealership part for that price off Amazon, the dealer cost on that part is more than what you paid.

Those "junk" aftermarket sensors are the honda originals, i just pulled out of my 2004 i bought new and the originals look like what you call the aftermarket. There is a beige and says CZ310 on it. Replacement Honda parts different from the originals in at least appearance, I think the black original said BT302 on it

i dont have a check engine light but the D is blinking could this be the reason why ?
@JackofAllMasterofNone
@JackofAllMasterofNone Год назад
Yes it could. But the only way to be sure is to scan the code. The blinking D indicates a transmission fault code, but there are many possibilities.

Hello I’m thinking about buying this car. I looked up the issues, but I’m not quite sure what it could be. Could you possibly help me narrow it down???😅please🙏 ⬇️Seller’s description⬇️ “I have a 2003 Honda pilot for sale. Have had it for a few years. Been one of the best cars I’ve owned. Selling because something happened last time I drove it. It came out of gear and now it won’t go back into gear. I do t have the knowledge to fix it or the money to pay a mechanic. I’m looking to get 700 for it.” It’s a 2003 Honda Pilot · EX Sport Utility 4D w/250,000 miles

Yes, because the Honda parts were so good and reliable that you're replacing them maybe Honda parts in the '80s '90s and early 2000s when quality control was actually a thing
