How to change the VTM-4 Rear Differential fluid for a First Gen 2003 - 2008 Honda Pilot. I recently got A136 service code which entails oil and filter change, tire rotation, ATF, and the VTM-4 Differential and Transfer case fluid change. Please stay tuned for all these videos.

Please note that 06-08 models had the case and needs regular 80-90w fluid. 03-05 models don't have the transfer case, the tranny fluid takes care of the lubrication

@@jaedennash0217 hard to say! What year Pilot do you have? How’s the current state/feel of your transmission? Is there a way to find out its service history? Did you purchase it locally? If so, are there an old records that might tell you which dealer or shop?

Thank you. Followed your video and was able to drain and refill the rear differential fluid on my 2008 Honda Pilot. I used the pump to extract whatever remaining fluid was left and there was ~ 8 ounces remaining. Thanks again.

Thanks for this video! I've been struggling with the right tools... what wrench, adapter & extension did you use to take the plugs off?

As I mentioned at the beginning of the video, you need just a 3/8 ratchet without any socket and just use the head or an extension if necessary. The plugs at time are hard to remove and you can use a cheater extension bar to help you crack them loose. I have also used an breaker bar or impact gun in the past.

Thank you as well! I don’t have the actual part numbers for the plugs, but you should be able to verify this with the Honda dealership.

They are just a regular pump you can buy off an auto or hardware store. Being in Canada I got mine from Canadian Tire.

No bro, I ended up not installing it unfortunately and sold it. I was under the impression that it would have been plug and play on a tiptronic 7 golf.

The VTM 4 sensor could be bad. If so this will be an easy fix. The sensors are very inexpensive these day via Amazon.

03-05 models don't have the transfer case, the tranny fluid takes care of the lubrication

Depends on where it’s leaking. Any leaks will never be good long-term you truly need to address it regardless.

On mine I have done it based on when the service code pops up at about every 50K km. I do VTM-4, transfer case, and rear diff at the same time

@@JNBTuning ok I recently bought an 06 with 181,000 miles. Not sure if it has been or when it was done. Don't seen any codes. I am gonna change the fluids. But it's too cold outside. Based on the video it's not a difficult job to do All I need is the tranny, transfer case and diff fluids.

@@fyahwerks you are around 291,000 km mark you are almost due I would say wait till your service light comes on. The last time I have done mine the car is at 245,000 km

Hi David in my case I did not have any lights on but just the service indicator. Usually the VTM-4 light is on when you have the 4x4 fully engaged and not a warning light for service!?
