Literally just bought one of these a few hours ago and immediately fell in love with it first self bought truck for 900$, my first stick shift and my first 4 banger
@@CrazyWoody1989 yeah mine runs, drives and stops like a dream only issue I have with it is it desperately needs door pins and I'd like to get the power steering fixed on it as of rn its manual steering lol but shes my baby and I love it so much
@@jamesprice2163 The door pins are notoriously bad in a lot of older GM vehicles, but luckily they are cheap and easy to find. I've had to work on mine multiple times in the past lol
When do you go into 4th gear? Ive been driving 3rd till like 45 I try to move it to 4 but its just me revving my engine, maybe im missing it and hitting 2nd... but still would be nice to know. I shift from 1-2-3 between 2500rpms but 4th not so sure.
If I'm going down hill I'm usually already in 4th by the time I'm doing 30 or so, on flats or shallow up hill I wind it up a little more, maybe 35 or 40. And when I'm trying to get up to speed on an on ramp I'll wind it up to 45 or so before I shift into 4th
I like long shifters and lazy shifting lol. It's not so great if a person is trying to do some "high performance" driving but day to day it feels more comfortable to me.
@@CrazyWoody1989 Totally. it makes a small truck like mine feel much larger than it is, since it's a truck transmission. High performance would just be missing the point.
It's peaceful to me as I just had to scrap mine currently I have a 95 mustang v6 convertible that I'll probably be trading for another s10 I grew to truly love that truck and I'm not afraid to admit I cried when it got towed away ... That's how I know a Sonoma is the vehicle for me
If you got the 4l60e they tend to give people issues I’ve had good luck with mine and I beat the crap out of it daily the s10s are meant to work and get you around and they do a good job of it
@mrwiseguy3063 I'd say the majority of the 2.2 trucks were manuals. I feel like a 5 speed gets more out of the painfully slow 2.2 than an automatic would lol.
I saw you mentioned high gas mileage, I’ve been getting 21 mpg combined so far. Might need a o2 sensor replacement which would make sense as to why fuel mileage is lacking. It’s a 02 2.2L 5 speed extreme. Just cleaned out the injectors and got better with learning how to shift( and adding a Tonneau cover) and I went from 16 mpg to 21mpg on average. I want to hit that 25-30 you mentioned 😂. What RPM are you shifting gears at?
@@CrazyWoody1989 Great, I’ve been shifting around 3000 so that’s good to know( depending on hills as well). I’m gonna look into the 02 sensor as that mpg range you mentioned sounds awesome!
Yeah I love it, I also have an '02 s10 that I've been driving for almost 18 years and it has never ever broken down on me. They were some of the last "good and cheap" vehicles imo
On the 2003 S10 standard transmission once you park I put my truck in gear than next morning put it in neutral and truck don't start. So I stop putting in gear and leave truck in neutral truck started up right away. Somehow does the transmission interrupt with starting systems somehow?
@@CrazyWoody1989 I'm thinking when I put truck in gear the starter and fly wheel disengaged while truck is parked somehow but as I said I leave it in neutral and truck starts right away.
My dad got a free 2000 GMC Sanoma, it had an 4 cylinder engine, automatic, but it didn't run(hence the fact he got it for free) when he got it the intentions were to get it running so when I hit 16 in 2022 I had a vehicle to drive, I'm still 14 and I turn 15 in November, I don't know what is wrong with it but we are gonna tear into the engine and all that and find out whats wrong and what needs to be fixed, my dad this weekend is gonna replace the fuel injectors, and then we are going to my grandfather's house to redo the harmonic balancer in my grandfather's '99 Corvette. Cant wait to get my truck running this summer
It will be a good one! Back in the day when I was like 16, 17 and 18 s10's and Sonmas were really popular for first vehicles and teenagers because they were cheap to buy, insure and put gas in. They're really good trucks
@@CrazyWoody1989 Yes, you are very correct. From what I've heard they can be really good on gas mileage and if taken care of correctly it can last years. I'll have a job at a gas station so I can refill what I need to every other night, and once I do enough saving up I'll go and get myself a 1974 Ford F-250. But for a starter the thing will do really good, especially with what I'll be doing, and occasionally going off-road for fun. I love the way it looks and I'll love driving it
@@ProbablyDjYou’ll come to learn this chassis is great to modify, the L’s pretty much drops in and then your world opens up to the superchargers or boosting the rig
I'm looking at one with the 2.2L. Just wondering how good it is. What people say is such a 50/50. Some say it is pure GM trash, others say it has lasted them 250k+ miles. So I'm unsure. Just want to get your perspective. The one I found appears to be maintained and not completely beat to shreds. Thanks.
I have two of these trucks, this one and an 02 model s10 and I've been driving the s10 since 2005. They don't hardly have any power but they are fantastic trucks, that's why I ended up buying the Sonoma (it has less than half the miles of the s10). Over the years I've had to work on it obviously but it has never had to have an engine for tranny replaced or anything. Heck it still had the factory spark plugs in it until 2010 and it had 156,000 miles by then! So I would say as long as you aren't looking for a hot rod, a 2.2 liter s10 or Sonoma would be a fantastic vehicle. They're cheap on gas too
@@walkingnowhere4829 Keep the maintenance up on it and it should last a life time, I forgot to mention that the 02 s10 is now nudging 300,000 miles. I still drive it regularly
