Don't change the PCM in your Grand Marquis/Crown Vic or other Panther platform vehicle before watching this! This may save you a LOT of work and headaches.

Mr. Joe, I cant tell you how grateful I am for this vid and all the work it took to find this problem. This is the only vid of its kind on youtube as far as I can tell and I cant imagine many folks going through this process to find a corroded wire. I had the very same issue, very same wire and you saved me a LOT of trouble. I took off the bumper cover and unwraped about a foot of the harness in the exact location you showed me,and there it was. My car is a Crown Vic but it was the same harness obviously. It was wet as you said and one of the yellow black wires had come off of the splice. Thank you, thank you sir!!! This was a real head scratcher. Grateful, Jack, Fayetteville NC.

Those splices should not be there anyway, the best way to prevent such fail points is to eliminate pieces in the system. I keep thinking of the old "built to fail " problem that keeps cropping up across all nameplates in one way or another. Great video and thanks for your hard work on this one.

Great save! I followed the link over from CVN. The amount of labor involved in tracking down a bad splice would likely have been beyond economical repair.

Pretty sure that yellow wire splice, that was full of corrosion, is also the same circuit for the ignition run. A have a similar problem, my MIL will do the same thing, but I don’t have any thumping sound. The way it does is the exact same way my vehicle does. I will get back to you on if this fixes my problem.

Thank u for putting forward the time and effort and sharing your findings with the rest of us who have been chasing this gremlin this seems to be a wide spread problem with these cars. My car runs great but will randomly shut off in the course of travel so my lady refuses to drive it as she don't feel safe when stalls n looses power steering.
