That little old lady is going to want her panther back. It may take a few years but she'll be looking for another one. My grandma had a 99 Vic for a good decade. No real problem from it EVER. Just a weird idle early on that was solved with a bottle of Seafoam. For whatever reason, she thought she wanted a 2013 Focus Titanium. She spent a good year liking it then slowly slid down the slippery slope of regret. A few years passed by of her telling me over and over again "I hate this car I just want my Crown Victoria back". I spent a couple years searching and found her a NICE 01 Town Car with 50k on the clock. She dropped that Focus like a bad habit and happily took that Lincoln home. Just my humble opinion...Panthers are probably one of the best things Ford has ever made.

IGGY 151-I have to agree with your humble opinion. I as well had a 99 Mercury Grand Marquis and was just as reliable as my wife Toyota Camry. One day i sold it to a cowrker simce i had 3 cars and was in the position to do that. Boy did i long for another one shortly after that. 4 months ago i came across a 05 Mercury Grand Marquis with 40k original miles and it's parked in my garage as a 3rd car. These cars are simply that satisfying 💪🏿

Just did mod 3 on my newly acquired 2005 Grand Marquis, could be the twin(same color scheme) of this car except it is a GS with 126K. I am in the panhandle of FL, car is rust-free and from one owner with all maintenance records, with new Michelins and all recalls performed, purchased for $3800. So there are a few of these gems that can still be found. I like the series of the TSBs you started for the Panthers also. Please keep them coming. Thanks again, your tips have been very helpful.

Id say keep the original wheels and get a cool set, so you can always throw to originals on if you want. The new Ford oem wheels look really nice on the panthers. You can find em everywhere people sell em when they put ugly aftermarkets on.

In 09 I had to move as I was helping with a buddy's restaurant and has two 96 Grand Marquis in really nice condition. As I've not always made the best conditions and the guy I was helping just gave me a room and a job based on my reputation I decided to pay it forward and gave my babies to two single mothers that got raw deals and weren't addicts like myself. I have been married 26 years and my wife has never bought a car. When I met her I gave her a '91 Mustang, V6 and 123k miles and burning oil. Later she was given a '96 Town Car and I got a '96 Impala SS from my mother after my father passed in 2001. The Town Car had dual exhaust with H pipe from factory and air ride. We sold it later and gave the SS to my son. The SS is in garage and we do not drive it, 17,000 miles. My wife got her mother's 2006 Marquis which we have today, 156k miles. I tuned up the 4.6 new coils and KN, but the biggest boost came from changing fuel filter. I am going to put duals on it..Borla

Hit that grommet with some CRC silicone spray. It helps keep rubber protected and fluid/flexible. Won't be needing any sunglasses inside the vehicle any time soon...that tint is rather dark for side glass especially at night time and parking/navigating in close proximities. Still, that is a super nice ride for its age. NOT a lot of belt contact on that alternator it seems. Great idea to leave this babe alone/stock. Its got good looking wheels and nice and quiet like it should be. Put a transgo shift correction kit in it next trans oil/filter service but not the race kit, just the correction kit that will extend the life and improve all of the shift concerns.

This is just a guess, but I think that heavy, thick plate of steel is there to protect the fuel pressure regulator (or possibly pressure sensor) from getting broken off in a front end crash. The de-gas bottle is right in front of the regulator. Even tho it's plastic, I suppose it could be strong enough to break something, causing a huge fuel leak. I know 2001 CV's do not have that, and their regulator is in a different place.

I owned a 03' Mercury Marauder and I sold it bone stock with 92k miles. It had a few issues. The Light Control Module failed which made the headlights turn off w/o warning I believe there was a recall. Rear wheel seals leaked. Blower motor speed control died. Drivers side heated seat failed (I'm not fat). Remote mirror drives side would only go up. It ate up front tires like crazy but might be for the Marauder exclusively. As long as you're changing it every 3000 Miles you don't need any kind of fancy oil

@@dalephillips8250 Rich explained the benefits of the extra ground for the Panther Platform cars in the vid…..we’re you PAYING ATTENTION????? Also over time the factory grounds can get old and corrode especially ones that connect to the frame under a vehicle like what my truck has. Extra grounds are not a bad thing at all. If you plan on keeping this car for a long time, follow the Boss’s advice. I had an old Saturn and it started acting funny. Guess what? It was a bad ground and my shop charged me $300 to replace it! Learn something from the Boss; I did that same upgrade myself on my truck. The Boss has a vid about a Ford van with issues and it was a bad ground; look it up in his library. Do some research instead of questioning the Boss and then maybe you will understand.

@Earl Edwards I guess I didn't catch any explanation in the video...this is why I asked the question. It wasn't to challenge his knowledge, it was only to learn so that I could then explain to others why it is a good idea. When people ask me questions I gladly explain without degradation, hostility or ridicule. But just par for the course in this world anymore as love waxes cold. Thanks for you vituperative answer.

@FordBossMe

Did you try plugging that scanner into another vehicle just verifying that it doesn't have any issues starting up and if it does start up with another vehicle then you're going to have to try to figure out why that data link connector doesn't have power or ground

The old VW air cooled Bosch fuel injection was electronic nightmare. Wiring issues, vacuum leaks, and ground circuit faults. To reduce ground circuit issues, added a 14 gauge wires from the body to the engine block, a ground to the computer mount to the battery and clean the grounds mounted by the battery. So, yeah, I get it. BTW, some Mopar trucks have ground issues too.

I just added the ground wire but I can’t seem to find the ground band clip that’s on the bottom of these cars so maybe it fell off the one from the engine to frame
