Appreciate the video review man... My step dad had a 2003 750 purple Honda shadow spirit when I was a teenager that I used to polish for him and learn how to ride cause I wanted to be apart of the club he was in called brothers of the wheel so h basically had me probate but learn about a motorcycle... He passed away on his Harley 1400 in 2015 sadly by heart attack.. he traded off the 750 after I got out of highschool for the Harley... We had it restored and gave it to my cousin who retired from the Marines after 20 years... Later my step dad's brother found the guy he traded the 750 to for the Harley and told me he had bought the old 750 back... I was happy but upset cause I wanted that bike so bad as it was sentimental to me with all the memories I had as a kid with my stepdad teaching me how to ride and work on my own stuff. My step uncle said "Im a trading kinda man you know this" I replied yes sir, he then said to me I'll make ya a deal. You give your cousin 500 to fix that 1976 triumph and I'll hand you the title... Bet your ass I made that deal... Now I'm currently figuring out if it's the carbs or a weak fuel pump... If I force feed it direct into the carbs... It fires up but the fuel pump barely sucks fuel to get to the carbs... Or it may be clogged. But after watching this video it made me understand a bit more of what my issues may be and how syncing works rather than fork out 900 bucks to have someone do it is rather keep those memories fresh and do it myself like my stepdad would expect me to. So again thank you for helping me better understand what may be the issues. I think I'll be riding across the u.s. soon enough, to carry my stepdad spirit and little brothers ashes on a trip we were all supposed to take out west.

Thanks for the great story! Fuel pumps on these are like 1psi pumps, and only pulse when the pressure in the line drops. They don't run constantly. If you find its pulsing really fast and not feeding the carbs, check the filter first before changing the pump. Dealer pumps are very expensive. I put an Amazon pump on this bike several years ago that had poor reviews, but it hasn't given up yet.

Great video on doing right by an underappreacted bike. If viewers find they have carb issues, you can get most carb parts for VT750s from TJ Brutal customs without buying what you don't need. He's not cheap either, but you can trust his parts. Chinese parts for these bike's carbs are also available, but buyer beware on that stuff. Also, if you're going to pull the carbs out anyway, you might as well get a basic rebuild kit with a fresh float bowl gasket, and new float needle. Takes just a couple minutes, and TJ has a video on his channel on how to do everything.

Great video 👍 got a like and a sub from me for sure Have the same bike, Vt750DC, 2005, with only 12k on the odo. Let the bike sit for 6month with ethanol fuel in it. When I tried to fire it up gas dripped out the carb overflow vents. Looks like the float needle stuck so I tapped on the float bowl with a screwdriver handle and it stopped. After that, it started but ran like it was fuel starved. Looks like its time to rebuild the carbs as I can only imagine the crap in them due to ethanol fuel. Never again with ethanol fuel. Non- ETN only. Thanks for making the video so I know what to do when I get the carbs off

Thanks John! Its not typically fun to get those carbs off and on, just make sure the intake boots are seated all the way when it goes back together. That's usually the worst part of the job.

I like your camera placement, you really showed what needed to be touched if that makes sense. I have not had to sync my carburetors but I have always been curious and how the process is done and just as I was wondering The Next Step in that process you gave the answer like at the end I didn't know you had to take the false air coolers off the motorcycle to install the tubes for the sinking device, it was a very good video thank you

@@SoloBlack313 I'm glad you liked it! If you were to throw a gauge set on yours, I'd bet they are a little off sync. This bike seemed to run fine after the carb repairs, and the carbs weren't really that far off. But getting them set up properly made a HUGE difference.

Check to make sure your fuel pump is working. If it fails, the bike will usually seem to run not too bad with a completely full gas tank. Once the fuel level drops it will sputter and starve for fuel. Been there, we had that problem on the Spirit in the video on the past.

Thanks for the video! i received my vt750dc back from the workshop after synchronising and noticed that the choke of the rear cylinder was kind of stuck. idn if they sync with a little stucked choke but now - after fixing the choke, the bike accelerate like hell (which is fine) but in the idle is popping every few 1-3 seconds out of the rear exhaust. with richer mixture cause of the choke, it wasn't noticeable at first. the previous owner run the bike with too rich mixture for a few k miles (now it has 10k) to run it on lower idle. idn if the valve are off after running on too rich mixture for long time or the sync way of after fixing the choke. at first i thought about having false air because making the mixture richer on rear made it less popping. but then, after hitting the gas and rev a few times it was there back again. is it possible, that this popping is comming from disunited vacuum pistons too? i'm a bit confused, because it runs perfect like hell, just has the popping on idle and by reving too after again fast it kind of swallows. any ideas? ❤ i spend too much money on workshops and have the feeling, no workshop has the time or knowledge or motivation to help
@randomwrenching
@randomwrenching 10 месяцев назад
Popping exhaust is a lean condition. Running with choke on a little will usually stop the popping but that's not a fix. Jetting is usually the fix. Dynojet kits work well on these bikes, I've done several. Rejet, resync and test from there.
@nuffdiebuff954
@nuffdiebuff954 10 месяцев назад
I already have a dynojet stage1 and k&n airfilter installed. the sparks are looking good and according to the manual from honda, i set up the mixture screws right (measured by rpm in-/decrease). so it's a mystery to me. it's not popping while driving.. just in idle and the acceleration is perfect linear so i see no need in rejetting. i'm trying to resync by mystelf to take a look on it. can a wrong valve setting cause the problem of popping in idle too?
@randomwrenching
@randomwrenching 10 месяцев назад
@@nuffdiebuff954 I haven't seen valve adjustment cause this problem at idle. Should also check the head pipe gaskets at the cylinder head. They squash down over time and cause outside air to be pulled into the exhaust system.
@nuffdiebuff954
@nuffdiebuff954 Месяц назад
@@randomwrenching long time went through.. i returned the bike back to the workshop to check the float height, because it was running a bit lean overall good trottle response tho but seems too hard. then i checked everything to false air - the carbs are leakproof. then i synced the carbs, checked mixtures screws (4 turns out) with rpm display of 50rpm precisly.. synced again.. but now.. i have the issue like before i got the carbs done.. Sometimes when the engine is warm and i rev the throttle "hard" in idle, (i think the front cylinder) chokes up and it backfires? into the carb. it realy sounds like choke up.. and feels like reving into "empty space" cause the motor doesn't rev. after this it runs back to normal. then i can rev certain times without any issue at all.. it never happend when driving. just sometimes when i try to rev in idle. i noticed, when i sync the carbs just a bit more to the front cylinder.. it gives a bit better response on the throttle and the issue with choking up almost dissapeard. the downside is more vibration on the handlebar in certain mit rpms. Again.. with a lower float height, there was no issue, crispy throttle response but the engine was running to lean overall. now its back to normal, running great except those "sometime" choke ups while reving short at traffic stop or so. driving around half an hour, it happens about 3 times. i have no idea what so ever it causes because it seems to happen so randomly with correct sync. i already thought about using spark plugs with a higher degree of heat like the manual recommend on extend higher speed.. any ideas?

A bad or dirty needle and seat in one or both carbs can cause that issue.
