We’ll here we are nearly 20 years later and these cars are still relevant and kick ass. Just bought my dream cobra 2 weeks ago and I paid more than original msrp. Worth it
I'll never forget these late 90s / early 2000s car and driver intros. I used to watch it on Saturday or Sunday mornings. I was just getting into cars...about to get my license...good ol' days! Watching these shows got me amped up to get on the road and drive! And I remember seeing this episode when it first aired. Man, I wanted one of these Cobras!
I remember that too man lol, I recall scenes of driving through autumn leaves before turns in the road, kicking the leaves up in the exhaust, whirling behind the car as it went through them. Shit used to fire me up so much back in the day for some reason. Made me wanna drive
Same here guys, watching this exact one and thought wow what performance. Now I own a 03' Zinc Yellow Vert, that runs through the hills of "The tail of the Dragon" about once a month screaming. I'm still amazed by it. Rural East TN is an amazing place to own one that's for sure!
Pulley and tune, these push almost 500 to the wheels. They still keep up even almost 20 years later. 😁Just imagine what they did 20 years ago. 😁A bigger blower, and you could reach 800 HP to the wheels with supporting mods... They are fantastic!
U get 03-04 Terminator cobra stock beats about anything..bolt on 5000$ worth of hop ups it will beat watever u got trust me many summer weekends here in detriot seen it do it still doing it in 2019 what a CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@mattjohnston7686 the bottom-end on Terminators can handle a lot more power with stock internals than any other Mustang from Ford without anything breaking.. If I'm correct, a Terminator can handle up to 700hp..
I looked for a long time to find my baby. I live in Colorado and I had to fly out to North Carolina to get her. Found her on AutoTrader after months of searching. Purchased from the original 70 year old owner, every receipt since new and absolutely babied. Spent over 6 hours on the phone with the owner before committing to buy. She was a good mix of pampered but driven, exactly what I wanted. Don't give up hope man, good luck! She was worth every sleepless night, greatest car I have owned.
Wow I can't believe it a supercharged corvette and all the 2015 stuff can beat a bone stock car from 11 years ago. Sad part is the coyote's and shelbies will run with everything you just listed. And this old ass car comes with 900hp handling and forged steel crank from the factory. Lol.
Graham Davis I bet. There's also stangs beating them. That's not even counting a v6 ford gt coming out that is in the same price range as the zr1 and will spank its ass all way to next month in every aspect.
You just named cars that cost 4 times as much as this cobra here. By the time you drive a corvette off the lot this thing will already be fully built for the same price lmao
these 03-04 cobras are hands down the best car for the money back then, or today...chevy has no car that has ever accomplished what these cobras have for the money....no manufacturer has either......PERIOD.....
Believe it or not there's a 03 Anniversary Termi with 51k miles for sale for only $15k in my city...Portland Oregon. Says it's clean never been wrecked. I don't think it's ever been modded either. If i hadn't just bought a car omg... What a deal. Makes me ill to not be able to get it. It's a beauty too.
LOL A MONSTER WAS BORN LOL BACK IN 03 PRETTY MUCH NOTHING WAS FUCKING WITH MY TERMINATOR LOL THE ZO6 AND THE VIPER WAS A LITTLE BIT FASTER BUT BOTH THE Z06 AND THE VIPER COST MORE THAN DOUBLE THE PRICE SO HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT.
+dsavish terminator is just the codename of the engine, they've made many new cars that are on par with what the cobra was when it was released, the 07 GT500 and 10-14 GT500s are the more current "cobras"
lol yeah man i'm well aware of that. i just liked the svt brand alot! there will never be another terminator nor one that looks quite like it! one of the best looking mustangs ever! coletti was a boss. my dream would be to have a 2.8 or 2.9 kb/whipple termi and a '13/14 gt500 with a 4.7 kb. pure baddassery.
+dsavish I agree haha this was my dream car. Got it last year. Working on a build. 302 block. Fully forged internals. Aiming for 550whp on stock blower. And plan on getting a 2.9 whipple next year for 700+ whp
I miss the old Motor Trend intros. Got some nostalgia going on right now. I remember watching this review in automotive shop class in high school and being like holy crap...these new mustangs are nasty!
Dimitrios F you're an idiot because there are many good fords out there besides the terminator! There's the 69'boss 429... 93 cobra... 95 cobra R... 96-98 cobra... 2000 cobra R... 2008 gt500... 2011-2017 mustang gt... 2013-14 gt500... 2016-17 mustang gt350R... all bad ass mustangs! All fast as fuck too!
still the best mustang made to this day. I mean 440 horsepower out of a 4.6 and then the great sound and iron block manley rods. this thing with be a car kids clamor for 40 years from now.
+matt pence this car was ahead of its time, still today these cars are worth close to 20 grand for a decent one, if this car was still being sold today there'd be a waiting list a mile long, the 2000 cobra R is my dream car, but this 03/04 is the meanest looking. love this car so much
@@Wombats-1 "Close to 20 grand for a decent one." 5 years ago when that was said that was very true. Not anymore. A decent one now goes for more around 30-32 grand. The nicest examples of these cars are almost 6 figures now. That one Mystichrome just sold for $72,000.
@@JordanSVT i wasn't trying to be very accurate to my statement of the cars worth. I occasionally check prices on 03/04 cobras as well as my favorite truck of all time the lightning. Those trucks are still getting sticker price of when they were new. Ford did an amazing job on the SVT cars of the early 2000's. We would go to the street races and that was all you saw down there, SVT cars. That was such a great time to be in the race scene. I still may buy a lightning or a cobra.
Mustang's are typically quarter horse's (I.E drag cars), which is why they used a S-R-A, they made all new edge mustang cobra's with I-R-S because they evolved into track focused vehicles instead of just plain ol drag racing, I'm sure you knew this tho, then they made the 2015-2020 GT350/GT500 which is essentially the same thing, except it's got the power to back it this time.
@@jonathanberry8255 and now the GT500 has the same fucked-up transmission that Ford is going through one class action lawsuit after another as a direct result of
SURE THEY HAVE LOL THE CAR THAT PUT THE CAMERO AND TRANS AM OUT OF BUSINESS. LOL HOW ABOUT MY 2 SUPERSNAKES LOL THIS ISN'T MANY CARS ON THE PLANET THAT COULD HANG WITH MY 900HP SUPERSNAKE.
Did he say something about going back to the cast iron block for durability? Thought I heard about others going to a modular aluminum block when they wanted over 400 horsepower? Summit Racing sells one. Was considering one for my 2000 Mustang GT.
The Generic motors bailout boys with their cracked dashpads in their 93 v6 Camaro find their way on here sick with a case of the smallcox....They didn't even make a Camaro after 2002 because everyone had already shaved off their Joe dirt mullet and rendered the car obsolete. Camaro used to be the track car, now they're playing catch up....since 1967 (2016 GT350)
These cars are worth every penny, they are already considered a collectors car that will be worth more money in the near future, they still haven't dropped value so think about how much it will cost later, these cars made some history back in the days taking out camaros, trans ams,and corvettes
That's awesome, man. I have started looking and every time I find the one I want, I get a response that it either just sold or there's someone putting down a deposit on it the next morning. Fucking pisses me off lol. They don't stay on the market for long! Where did you find yours? Local or internet?
Only the 2003-2004 SVT Cobras are called Terminator. Back in 2003, Ford built its first supercharged Mustang Cobra. Dubbed the "Terminator" by the team of engineers behind its development
@@CheesusSVT Yah man I think I am going too leave my 04 TERMINATOR as original as possible only because I bought it with such low miles untouched.I love to buy another TERMINATOR with miles on it so I can enjoy it.Out of all my car's in my collection probably 8 of them are show car's with low miles untouched and there going to stay that way.
WRONG DUDE LOL YES THE TERMINATOR IS A VALUABLE CAR BUT AS OF TODAY MY 93 COBRA HAS THE TITLE LOL HAVE YOU SCENE THE PRICES OF 93 COBRAS LOL I HAVE SCENE THEM ANYWHERE FROM 50 GRAND TOO OVER 100GRAND.
@@Mustangrocket98 I think they had tried to use/thought about using the 5.4L when developing the car but went back to the 4.6L because they wanted it to rev. I'm glad they went with the 4.6 though, the 5.4 would've sounded too much like a truck but the 4.6 is one of the best sounding engines ever imo
If they used the 5.4, they'd have to put the 4 valve heads on it. The 2 valve ones would not be suitable. They did use a 5.4 4 valve but that went into the Ford GT.
I HAVE A 04 COBRA AND I LOVE THE CAR AND I HAVE A GT500 AND 2 SUPERSNAKES WITH THE 5.4 AND NOT ONE PROBLEM AND YOU KNOW WHAT KIND OF POWER SUPERSNAKES HAVE LOL A LOT.
stock for stock termi beats f-body.. its fair u have displacement and cobra has S/C.. if u mod yours and termi mods his still gonna win. u put a S/C on urs he puts nitrous on his lol this could go on and on.. exepth the mustang has an edge its not ugly like the f-bodies and not assmall inside. I have both so I can judge lovem both
Uh, no. The Terminator's destroy any stock LS1 F-body. This isn't something you can have an opinion on. It's far stronger, and significantly faster, case closed.
the funny thing about your comment is the LS1 is on par with the 01 cobra and its naturally aspirated lol look it up buddy the terminator destroys any f body stock
hotchalupa go easy on him man, hes a F body fanboy, i bet you he didnt even watch this video he just went straight to the comments to post that stupid comment lol.
For all you ford freaks this car sucks for almost 400hp my Bolt on lt1 camaro walked all over this car, and only paid 2500 for the car ford is always overrating the Hp numbers
Bullshit, drove many GM corvettes and F-bodies at my GM dealership and own both LT1 and LS1 you are full of shit. I drove 2 crossfire engines from my customers and Crossfire was garbage. The 5.0 Ford engine was actually more reliable and quicker then that garbage crossfire shit. TBI engines were better and the TPI but LT1's they were easily putting down 300HP have a better power band and revved higher then crossfire. As a GM fan crossfire sucked. I think a Quad 4 DOHC Pontiac Grand AM that GM made mopped your engine with 0-60 time and 1/4 mile and that's a 4 banger 2.3L lol
Yah sure it did.2500 hundred bucks. What is your car worth today. My 04 cobra is a 40thousand dollar car and going up fast.I like won't even mention my 93 cobra that is pulling down 50grand today. What is your car worth. EXACTLY PIECE OF SHIT FORD HATER.IF either of my cobras aren't enough you wanna try my 08 gt500 with over 850hp.Or do wanna try my 10 900hp super snake. You would need a jet if you want to compete with my shelbys lol
Wow even Ford's engineers admitted the n/a 4.6s suck at making power haha. Strap the same size blower on an F-body and watch the terminator get terminated
that wouldnt make any sense in competitive fairness. cobras have 8.5:1 compression ls1's have 10.1:1. dish the pistons on the ls to an 8.5:1 and run the same blower not an aftermarket one and the mod motor will make more power
reason the didnt do well n/a was the design of the upper and lower intake manifold, its shit and theres no real alternative to replace it unless youre going supercharged
Today, GM puts a supercharger on a larger 6.2L in the Camaro and it's getting blown away by the smaller 5.8L in the GT500. Ford didn't even have to match the displacement. The 5.4 from a few years ago puts down the same numbers at the wheels that the S/C'd Camaro does. I like how you didn't address that here.
Dr.Beef I like how you ford nut swingers don't address the fact that mod motors have 4 cams and 4 valves per cylinder which negates the need for more displacement. Yet, even though they have less displacement, they're physically much larger and heavier than LS engines. The 4.6 was a turd even with a supercharger. The 03-04 Cobras only made 400hp on 8 psi from the factory. A factory LS1 will easily make 450hp or more on the same setup. Search any dyno videos on RU-vid. Let's also not forget that the GT500 has a much larger blower that is set at a higher psi level than the ZL1 from the factory (which I'm assuming you're comparing). The 5.4L is a dog. I don't know what numbers you think it puts down, but the n/a 5.4L in 2010 only made 320hp and 390ft/lbs. The upgraded supercharged 5.4 only made 450hp and 500ft/lbs. That's sad considering a pushrod, n/a 5.7 LS engine from way back in '97 produced 350hp and 365ft/lbs. The displacement argument you people like to bring up is hollow and factless. It shows me you've never worked on a car yourself. Let's address a couple of things you ford boys won't admit. The top 10 fastest street legal cars in the world are Chevys or are Chevy-powered. Just watch Hot Rod Drag Week. The fastest street raced cars in America are Chevy-powered. Just watch Street Outlaws. Even though the show is scripted, the cars are not. The fastest production car in the world is LS-powered. Google it. Until the LS engines were produced, the most popular V8 engine swap in America was the Chevy 350. Now it's the various LS engines which are swapped into literally anything you can imagine. From imports, to work vans, to boats and sand buggies. Ford never had a true answer to LS powered cars until the new 5.0 came out. And even then, it's only a max of 2/10ths faster in a 1/4 mile than the Camaro because it's 300lbs lighter. LS engines are lighter, more compact, and cheaper to upgrade and maintain, yet they still make more power for less money. I guess I'd be mad too if I was a fan of a company that has only ONE sports car to chose from.
ihatecrackhead It's not a GT it's a Cobra... this one made 390 rated (more like 430), the N/A Cobras made 320, Mach 1 was about 330 N/A, and the Cobra R was rated at 385 but made closer to 450 N/A.
@@anthonylaudano9751 you mean Mustang GT, I don't count the cobra since ford couldn't even make the engine, they had to order it from a catalog 2003-04 cobra displaces 6.9L of atmosphere while under boost yet was slower than a 6.0L GTO that chevy COULD build without calling for help from the aftermarket if you want to start talking about aftermarket engines, we can go past 500hp easily, what did cobra make against from 6.9L's oh yea 390hp LMAO since it's highly probable you know nothing about cars. I will explain boost you breath 15psi air, if you add 15psi boost, you double the amount of air in the space. it takes 10L of air forced into a 5L to make 14psi of boost cause a 5L @15psi is actually a 10L and will need fuel to match a 10L engine a boosted engine only make 390 is a joke, old mustangs rely on gearing and weight to be fast. I've seen V6's that have a longer 2nd gear than Mustangs 3rd gear
@@ihatecrackhead The cars are 16 17 year's old .I was comparing them to the same time period car's. Yes 400 500 hp today isn't a lot but 03 03 cobras are worth way more than any Camero or GT0 that's a joke too put them in the same sentence. But if you want to talk today we can go there. You think you're Chevy or GT0 can hang with my 850hp 08 gt500 or my 10 900hp super SNAKE . GOODLUCK. LOL WHAT DO YOU OWN . I DOUBT YOUR GOING TO HAVE ANYTHING THAT FUCKS WITH EITHER CAR.Even my 07 convertible super snake with only 650hp.That car would eat a GT0 for lunch and a camero for dinner.
