In this video we examine the audio factory audio system in an Acura TL. The third generation Acura TL from years 2004 to 2008 came equipped with an impressive sound system in its day and age. It supported HD CDs which provided an immersive sound experience along with surround sound. Unfortunately for Acura the HD CDs didn't catch on and regular cds didn't take advantage of the factory sound system as well. American vehicles came with XM along with traditional AM/FM radio. The radio also came equipped with tape for some reason making the radio feel really dated. The Acura also offered hands free audio calling and steering wheel controls to change stations, sources and manage the volume.
The sound system in the TL was all driven by the 5 channel amp installed in the passenger kick panel. This small amp drives four 2ohm speakers, two tweeters and one free air subwoofer. The amp outputs roughly 150W of power and sounds awesome for its age. It has a decent balance of bass, highs and mids but of course it doesn't compare to todays sound systems. All the speakers in the TL can be replaced along with the amplifier but it does require some customizations.
The 2007 and 2008 model TLs incorporated aux inputs in the middle console and some even also added noise cancellation. If you have an older model TL from 04-06 you can add AUX to your vehicle or bluetooth audio streaming but it will take some adapters. There are several options to choose from in this video we talk about a few and also look into replacing the factory radio entirely.
