2004-2010 Porsche Cayenne V6 Valve cover gasket replacement 

bro did you ever find one of these? mine is leaking and I am about to crack into it this weekend. Porsche dealership wants to drop the transmission. F that. 6,000 bucks.

About 4 hours

This car had a slight oil burning smell ended up being the gasket leaking near the exhaust

The noise may be the bolts that are captive in the intake moving around

the V8 was easier for me, only because the fuel rail on the I6 was a pain. I made a V8 video too even though the editing wasn’t that good

I’d have to double check on the manual but I think they were only like 10 or 15FT LBS

That was some RTV I put on the gap of the timing cover to the block

@@regularmechanic4196 ohh ok what RTVspecifically if you don't mind asking would any kind work? and do you always have to do this when replacing the valve cover gasket? Also most importantly why did you even change the valve cover gasket in the first place ? Oil leaks? Im just trying to learn as much as I can as I just bought my second cayenne now

@@Jdsofar you need to use a high temp, oil proof RTV, without it it can leak in that area. The valve cover was leaking A-little bit on this car though its not a super common fix for these cars, it is on V8s though

@@regularmechanic4196 ok I have a V6. things already cost a ton did not want to get an s or turbo lol. ill take a look around at mine tomorrow with a light and see if there is any evidence of leaks. highly doubt it tho as it was just checked when I got it safetied. cars 13 years old now so I'm trying to address everything I can within reason. I really care about preventative maintenance

Just replaced my thermostat and coolant pipe with out having to do either (I did take off the intake manifold prior to replacing those and I will be replacing the valve cover gasket next. Honestly imo its probably easier to replace the therm after taking the valve cover off tho)

Don’t let it fool you they actually are pretty reliable and pleasant to work on. VR6 valve cover gaskets aren’t all that known to go bad

As long as the cars clean and you have soft clothing no need for them they get in the way
