2004 Acura TSX no charging from alternator.

Complaint was battery not being charged So client replaced battery. Problem still there.. so they replaced alternator. Still didn't fix it. So vehicle was sent to me. After checking all the fuses, and verifying the complaint. I checked for "key on" power at the 4pin alternator connector. Blk with yellow wire. No power was there. With fuse "good", and no power at connector... I started chasing the wiring harness at the accessible places. First was a buss connection at rear of cylinder head. Power was there. Then I found a connector between buses connection and alternator. When I wiggled the connection, I would intermittently get power at the alternator. Soon further inspection, I found that the connector was on fully connected. Once the connected was fully seated.. the alternator was charging good.

Spot on repair! Had the same problem with a 2006 TSX. That connector had come loose, most likely when the manifold was removed to replace the starter. Thank you for taking the time to post this!

@@sierrawest8982 The same connector he points out in the video that you can't quite see in the video but can easily find. Small wiring connector just under right side of the intake manifold near throttle body. Follow the wires from the alternator under the manifold heading out toward the battery side of the engine bay and you'll find it.

I suspect the battery not charging light didn't come on and in fact wouldn't even light up when the key if first turned on. My connector was disconnected which lead to no charge but also no battery light.

E.LD. - Eletrical Load Detector Its is a load sensor the lets the computer know know much electrical current the vehicle is using. Then computer adjusts the output of the alternator to meet the load requirement.

I have the opposite; as my main fuse 100A/70A is blown with a new battery and a bad alternator, replaced blown main fuse 100A/70A and right away is fried. I was told had to be ground wire with the positive battery terminal either with the starter or alternator??

They are correct. For something to blow the 100A fuse... its a dead short to ground on the wire(s) from battery or Alternator or starter

Hi, how can I check switch on power to alternator with a voltmeter vs the device you use? I have 2 year old replacement alternator on that appears not to be working (battery light on... voltage when running at battery not increasing when car running). Thank you!

Un-plug the connector.with key off. check for voltage at all the wires. Make a note of which wire has battery voltage and which does not. Then turn key to 'on'/'run' . Now recheck the connector. ANY wire(s) that had missing battery voltage that Now has battery voltage....that is your key on power.

Would you know how to repair it? I just started getting into car maintenance for my 2004 acura tsx. I have had a solid battery light always show when the engine is running. If I unplug the wire that connects to the alternator, the light turns off, but if I put it back in, it presumes to turn back on. I've had this battery light problem for quite a few months now.

You need to test the voltage at the battery with engine running vs engine off. Engine running you should see 13.5 - 14.5v Off should see 11.7- 12.5v If u don't see those number. Then changing diagnostics needs to be done. If you don't have the ability to test voltage. Then you should take the car to an automotive technician.

So my 2006 acura tsx has been turning off and immediately coming right turning right back on but I noticed it only does it when I'm listeing to music, have the A/C on or my headlights. Do you think that its a faulty connection somewhere?

Wow .. I know it seems specific. But your description is very vauge.. I highly recommend paying a shop to have diagnostics done. But make sure you go on a test drive with them to pinpoint exactly what is going on. Good luck with that.

@@Steve4x4 I took it up to a auto care and they tested the battery and alternator and thats all good. They said that it's most likely an electrical issue that the dealership could identify. I'm going to follow your video 100% tomorrow and see if I can spot the issue. They think that its 100% a fuse or loose wiring

Nice video , maybe u can help me out , so my car was having trouble starting my friend hit the starter and got it to start so he said I needed to change out the starter , I just changed it out well a friend did now my battery light came on for check charging system if im correct , what could it be ? Maybe that cable ur talking about that’s below or what not if u could help me out thanks

Without proper diagnostics. I can't answer your question. Have you checked the charging system? To change the starter the battery needs to be disconnected. Have you checked your battery connections With engine running @ 1300rpm do you have over 14v? If no have alternator tested. If yes, next test is turn on every eletrical load. I mean everything, rear defroster, ac, blower on high, high beams on, flashers on, radio on, seat heaters, foot on brake, door open to turn on dome light. - every eletrical items "on" And measure voltage. Is it 12.6v or higher. If yes then alternator is ok. If no then alternator needs to be tested. If yes and the battery light is still on. Then there is another issue and should probably be taken to a shop at that point. Good luck.

I think it's my wiring also because alternator not working and my knock sensor showed a short all the wiring is together

Did you ever get this addressed? I'm having the same issue of both my "check emission system" light which triggered code P0332 for the knock sensor and "check charging system" light appear. I have replaced the alternator, battery and knock sensor and both lights still appear.

did this problem throw a check engine light? you know that the wiring harness is made in China. Just look at the label next to the cabin filter.

Plugging in that connector allow the alternator to work.

I wouldn't cause it might back feed to the ecm. And u might cause more problems.

@@Steve4x4 I guess what I'm saying is. If I was on the road and the battery light came on and I had a jumper wire ready to place in while only in key on position. Just to make it home. It's happening to me right now and I'm glad I came upon your video.

@@ericanderson2019 I supposed if the "KEY ON" Power is missing.. I would want to know why first before adding power on that circuit. If there is a short. And the fuse popped. And u add power to that. It's a fire hazard at that point Key on power is from the ignition switch.. so if that is dead there my be other problems too.

@@ericanderson2019 the end result in my video was the connection that was bad at the manifold. So not only was the alternator was missing Key on power... it would have also not have a field control from the ECM too. How I found the connector was tracing the key on circuit with a good wiring diagram. Again I wouldnt go about adding power to a circuit unless I know there is no other place for that power to go. Or if I had a 5 Amp fuse on my jumper wire to pop right away if there is an unknown short that I'm trying to send power to. It's just something I wouldn't advise without fully understanding the wiring of the whole system.

Yes... I had to watch the video to remind me... once I got down to it... the connector was not fully seated.

@anas tufail i dont fully understand what you are asking? Do you need to remove the manifold to check that connector? No you dont.

I just looked it up for you. Yes there is a connector that is called "Starter sub Harness" Connector #C101 it's a 6 pic connector that the knock sensor circuit goes through it. C101 is located right next to the starter.

It was a loose connector. I just reconnected the connector.

U say similar problem.. do you mean "no output from Alternator"? If that's the case then you need to verify "key-on" power at the multi-pin (either two wires or three) one of those wires must get "hot" when key is turn to the on position If yes.. then usually u need an alternator. If no.. then deeper diagnostics need to happen to find out why that is missing. But I only suggest this if you really understand the eletrical system. Cause it's easy to misdiagnosed this problem.

Is there a question? Have you checked the voltage with engine running? Most cars when engine is running you want to see between 13.5 and 14.5 volts. If you new battery was drained quickly, then you have a charging system problem. Possibly the alternator, or other. But without diagnostics you cant tell what is wrong.

@@luisaguilar9907 After I changed the alternator on my TSX, it kept dying. Turns out this particular fuse blew preventing it from charging. Runs fine replacing the fuse
