My thoughts on the 2004 Chevy SSR with the 5.3L V8 and 4 speed automatic transmission!

Why do people call these ugly? They look so cool in my opinion!!!

I think the last time I saw one of these on the road was about 2 years ago. As someone that grew up as a kid in this era, I always thought these trucks were pretty friggin cool! I used to see one maybe once every couple of months, they definitely stood out as memorable among the other early-mid 2000s cars, but nowadays they're so uncommon to see. I definitely believe that, despite their flaws, they'll have an overall favorable spot in automotive history.

I have not seen one of these on the road in years. These will become cool. Give it 10 years at cars and coffee and these will become cool

I'm very quickly falling in love with this stupid truck. It's like an El Camino written in cursive. If I had the money to fund it, I'd wanna buy one of these in black and then have it done up in flames with a CMYK color scheme to give it a slick Neon Hot-Rod look.

Ahh the retro styling era, this and the retro Thunderbird could have only been made in that era.

I picked up an 04 at a good price due to some paint issues which I had fixed. Cool car, I get lots of looks and people ask me about it all the time. I've owned a corvette and plenty of Camaro's and they never got attention like this car does. I love the hardtop convertible option. The bad part of owning an SSR now is parts, they stopped making parts a long time ago and people know it and are selling parts at huge markups. But if you need a part, you're kinda screwed so you pay. And because GM barely put any effort into this, a lot of things break or have poor quality. This car would have been a success if GM hadn't GM'd it. This should have had an LS engine from the start, and should have offered a manual trans from the start. The other issue is, this truck has no real purpose. They should have put a better cooling system in it and made this a light duty truck. Tow capacity on this "truck" is 2500 lbs, worse than most minivans with 6 cyl engines. This is based on the Trailblazer, which can haul something around 7K. Maybe the SSR didn't need 7k towing, but 5K might have saved it. Hard to justify buying a 50K truck that doesn't do anything a truck can do. GM didn't think this through, they just skimped and rushed it into production.

So in 2004 or five when the commercial for one of these debut with the yellow SSR in it I saw it as a kid and ever since then it’s been my favorite car. I’ve always wanted one I even had a yellow model car of it that and the 2004 H2 Hummer in yellow I have a soft spot for and any of those retro styled early 2000s cars even the PT cruiser from Chrysler or Plymouth the Plymouth prowler definitely the retro car in the late 2000s the Chevy HHR the cool thing about all these vehicles besides the H2 Hummer you could get all of them in a manual transmission the most expensive ones are the SSR and the prowler I could pick up a PT cruiser for next to nothing with low mileage even with low mileage and a manual transmission and a convertible less than 10 grand I might do that but one day I’m gonna have a collection of all these vehicles with manuals transmissions of course with exception for the H2 but the HHR SS what a cool little truck that was I would not mind if one of these made come back

A race car / daily doesn't sound like a good combination unless you only have a one mile commute to work

How many modern cars have the classic look? HHR. SSR. PT Cruiser. Plymouth Prowler. Thunderbird. Anymore I can't think of?

I remember seeing one of these in the home depot parking lot covered in dents with lawn care stuff in the back, the owner was outside smoking a cigarette. I wish I wouldve talked to him.

I agree. That would be someone I would want to meet. Because they’re using what’s considered a collector truck for actual truck work. I love seeing trucks being beat up. Reminds me of my dad’s 1981 Ford F2 50 that he only got 350,000 miles out of LOL

Chevy SSR is a good-looking model in my opinion... You can bash me with replies all you want but the new car models are way too boring, too modern, way too futuristic (not in a retro way), and too ugly.

I agree, everything looks bland and the same now, nothing has personality anymore unless it’s a ridiculously expensive sports or super car
