2004 FORD CROWN VIC LCM REPAIR

So I got the recall letter and took the 03 Grand Marquis to the dealer ship the repair didn't work what ever it was they did then I got a used one off eBay $50 put that in it didn't work until you gave it the love with a hammer that was well over a year ago , watched the lesson got a relay out of my parts box put it in and they work !!!!!!!!!!!!!! My less technical approach was to grab the relay and pull it off the circuit board with a cheap pair of pliers. That left 4 nice holes to solder lead lead wires right into a $5 relay. It was fun saving all that money, thank you.

Just did this to my car worked perfect. I love this tutorial due to the fact that all parts needed can be obtained at your local auto parts store for a repair that has to be done immediately.

Thanks for the informative video. I did mine 2 weeks ago. Not that I had a problem but being proactive. I am glad I did because after I cut open the relays, two were really bad. A problem waiting to happen. Keep up the great work!

I tried the same fix and it works fine. I was hesitant to replace the relays with the identical NEC part as they are obviously too small for the job.

I am wondering why you didn't replace the new relay in exactly the same spot the old one was removed from...

Thanks for this vid. My problem was the relay came unsoldered. I tested them all with 9v battery first.

the recall was a temporary fix unfortunately. I got my free LCM in 2014. Now 2017 begins with that same old problem

excellent video! huge improvement making it into a replaceable relay. any follow up with the repair?

I haven't done mine yet, but I'd guess you will want to check the following: 1) Do you have the right replacement part #? If not, go to square one 2) If yes, does each wire go from the trace on the board to the correct corresponding leg on the new part? It is easy to reverse the lefts and rights if you are not careful because things can look backward 3) If you DID reverse wires, you may have blown either the relay or something else in your car -- that's way beyond me to troubleshoot though

Is it possible to lose just the taillamps, markers, blinkers and have headlamps with a bad LCM MODULE?

Changing a relay should be as simple as changing a fuse. It is beyond me, that Ford, and the NHTSA haven't allowed this to be recalled. It poses a real danger. I recently replaced the Headlight relay...and it may be a little better but the lights still flash.. guess I need to change the rest. I plan to take out this POS, and make it all PnP. If the relay goes bad..I can simply change it. I won't have to take out my solder gun..just replace it, and move on. Thank you, OP.

Please Help. I have watched and read everything I could find here but cannot find my configuration. I need to know what the proper pin holes in my circuit board are to receive the wires from my external relay. (30, 85, 86, 87, 87a) Is there anybody out there who can help? Why? When a high quality relay can be sourced for less than $20.00, the same method removes the faulty unit, and then the new one solders right back in there in about 5 minutes. No stringing 5 different wires through, no breaking your module housing, no connector and no bulky relay dangling around in the limited space you have up under your dash. Oh, to make it more easily serviceable in the future. Why? A new relay soldered in properly will likely not fail again in your vehicle lifespan. Period. It is not cheaper, it is not better (no, in fact it is worse. it is hacked), and the biggest chuckle here is... FORD WILL REPLACE THE WHOLE MODULE FOR FREE! Last I checked--21 September, 2021--the recall is still being honored. Pfftt...
