That's the smartest thing I've heard in a long time nowadays considering all that's going on. And The money savings are the best part of it all, and it still get the job done and reliable.
You oughta be proud. Your car is a beauty and the fact that you’ve done many (or all) of the repairs yourself says a lot about you. Classy and quiet car, one of the best values out there.
My buddy owned a Limo company and he would put 400k to 500K on these cars without any major problems. He would change Alternators, batteries, and tires. :) I love these cars!
Great Video! I recently purchased a 2005 Signature. 94,000 Miles. I will use in my private car service. My third Lincoln. Last of true Luxury cars. A beast!
I own a 03 executive has 200,000 miles, like you changed my air bags out to springs. Had a few leaks i repaired myself.had it for 10 years now.just changed my air compressor and water pump. these cars really are great for long trips. Thanks for posting.
I just picked up a 03 Cartier edition. 114k miles Florida car. It will be my daily driver going forward. Air suspension was already changed out to shocks still glides. Love it
Hi from 2024. Am taking one for a test drive tomorrow and probably buying it. I was looking for a Crown Vic or Grand Marquis but vids like this helped me lean toward this one.
Don't sell it bro you will regret it They don't make cars like they used to. I own two of them both L bodies ex LIMO cars one is propane converted..I love them both. One of them is over 1 million kms or 600000 miles the other is about 540000kms WOW! original engine. Nice video man Lincoln Nation bro! 😎👍
Oh yeah for sure man, and that's the plan to hold on to it for a long as possibly, with regular maintenance these cars will last forever. I'm not too surprised that the original engine, trans and rear end are still going strong. In the future I plan on getting a 2006 to 2008 Designer if I can find a nice one
@@57LHemi I did recently replace the engine on my propane Lincoln my mechanic found a low mileage 4.6..he says another million easy! These cars were built tough and easy to repair and maintain it's amazing. I live up North and winter and salt is hard on cars but I own two one is my daily driver and the other only sees summer now and it's a 2008 Signature L .
Clem Mahabir-600k miles??? Holy shit. I just bought the cousin 05 Mercury Grand Marquis in 12/21. It was a 1-Owner with 40k original miles. So i hope to have the same luck you did.
Nice. It's awesome that these cars aren't hurt by miles. There's a confidence that goes with driving these cars that tells you that you'll get to your destination without any problems. How many luxury cars are seen as reliable? Very few. Damn nearly none. The only one that is reliable and has cheap maintenance IS the Town Car.. 🙌
Great video dude... I'm thinking hard about getting me an 04 town car... i don think it's the same model yours but its that pearl white and about 80 or 90 thou on her...in Great shape... you taught me alot... thanks again!! God Bless ya with your car!!
I just bought a 2005 TC signature with 266k for $2800. All I had to do was change valve cover gasket. Drives great. I'm taking it to body shop tommorow to remove some rust. Great vehicles indeed. My same dome light is out also.
In order to have the "air suspension" go away ... go and reinstall the two "solenoids" that most likely removed during the air bag job .... it worked for me .. as I removed the air bags on my town car
I like these but they are not problem-free; @ 83,000 miles mine has suffered the common water leakage around the vent under the plastic cowling (discovered a couple of gallons of water in the rear floorboards), and now my check air suspension light pops on and I lose power steering every now and then. Oh, and right before that my electronic door locks stopped working along w/the key fob and my AC is currently throwing all types of codes but still works 👍 Am currently trying to figure out whether I should fix these things or simply dump it. Seems like I shouldn't be having these problems at only 83,000 miles-- I bought it about a year ago from an 89-year-old who used it as a Sunday driver and it lived its life in a garage. P.S if there's any Lincoln Town car owner who lives anywhere near the Fayetteville North Carolina area and knows how to fix these issues (changing over to shocks, exedra) for a good price, holler at me 👍
Love those Towncars I won't drive any other car. I've had two so far the first one would've still been driving it if some idiot didn't slam into it and wreck it. 180,000 on it and it still drives fine but selling it I got a 2004 Signature and love it has all the options.
She's a beauty! Great video. I've been driving her ugly little step-sister (2006 crown vic police interceptor) for 10 years and 100,000 miles. You can't beat the panthers for their value, comfort, and durability. If mine bites the bullet, a town car or loaded marquis is next for me.....
I've got my eyes set on an '04, but so does someone else. They wouldn't let us test drive it until they fully serviced it by monday for an ac leak (2 days from now). $2,900.
I inherited one that has been in a garage undriven since 2017. It gonna cost me a fortune to replace every thing I'm sure. I wish you were near by to help a sister out LOL
Congrats on the new purchase and yes they will last forever my man, I've had mine for over 6 years now and still going strong. I bought it with 164k miles on it and now has over 260k with the original engine and trans. All you have to do is take care of it and it will take care of you and save you a lot of money at the same time.
You have a very nice car, and you did a great job on this video. I have a 2002 Town Car that has been my daily driver since 2007. The rear air ride suspension going bad is a very common problem on these cars. Mine went out in 2015, and I had it replaced with a good set of cool springs. I had the same issue with my 1994 Town Car back in 2008. My car only has 110k miles on it, and I have not yet replaced the intake manifold, which is another common problem on these cars. It is too bad that Lincoln discontinued making Town Cars after the 2011 model year. I plan on keeping my car for quite awhile.
For sure man same here I plan on keeping mine as long as I can. The intake manifold, air suspension, and water leak are the most common problems that these panther platform cars will see. Everything else is pretty much bullet proof with regular maintenance. I have over 260k on mine with the original deivetrain. I plan on buying a Designer series Town car also one day. I love how the have the fog lights and I believe that is was the highest trim level available out of them all. Take care of those 2 Town cars you have and they will take care of you my man. And thanks for watching
@@57LHemi so is your town car still running on the original transmission at 260,000? Just curious because I have a 99 grand marquis only has 154,000 I just bought 4 months ago and it's a great car, wondering how long these transmissions go before replacing.
I drive a 2006 town car, I’ve had it for 9 years already and ZERO problems with it. However, the past few weeks the check suspensions light has turned on a couple times so yeaaaaa I’m sure they are failing 😢 any idea how much it would be to repair that?
@ santi hugh-- I had the rear air ride suspension pump and bags removed and replaced with a good set of coil springs in my 2002 Town Car in July of 2015. I also had the shocks replaced, and the total cost was $432. Of course that was more than seven years ago, and with inflation, it would be more now. My car only lasted 13 years with the air ride suspension, so you are lucky that yours lasted 16 years.
I own three Town Cars currently an 03 Cartier in Silver, a 04 Ultimate in White and, a Gold 2008 Signature "L". Other than the rear axle issues on all 2003 models they are great. If you run into the rear axle issue on your 03, the only cure is to get and entire rear axle assembly from an 04 or 05 etc. and swap it out. The axles were improperly hardened then Ford sold them into the aftermarket. So even if you get a new brand name axle and bearing kit put in, you may have the same issue a year later. I learned the hard way at $600-$700 a pop. After the same repair three times. I had a junk yard unit from a 2005 put in and no more issues
11:00 you shouldn’t have to worry about the longevity of this drivetrain. There’s a bunch of Panther cars pushing 500k+ on the original drivetrain and some have hit a million miles.
I have a 1996 TC Presidential arriving this weekend, one owner, garaged, 107K miles, gorgeous inside and out. Thank you for your video. Truth is, I am a little nervous that I sold my 2016 Durango to buy the TC and I don’t even know how to repair the car. Guess I have always loved Lincoln’s and I figured life is short. My plan is to learn how to take care of her, use her as my everyday car, and hope and pray she stays alive. Heck, the Durango was killing me in repairs and all of the tech in that engine no way you can fix them yourself. I haven’t been able to locate one of those Chilton’s manuals so I am taking a big chance on this lovely car. Was feeling so nostalgic so I pulled the trigger. My wife was like here we go again. Sad too that we live in a stupid townhouse so no place to garage and work on the car.
@@Revel214 Don't worry you didn't do anything wrong. As a matter of fact you bought a time capsule. A 107,000 miles garage kept one owner three huge pluses. Soon as you get it new spark plugs air filter fuel filter and oil change. The maintenance won't be as much as that dodge madness you was driving. Also when you get all that done. Antifreeze and trans flush then she'll really be your daily driver. My car is over 228,000 miles and no major problems. I started my antifreeze and trans flush at 100,000 miles and every 50,000 miles after. What color is it? I'm not a mechanic so its not hard to work on these cars.
@@Pantherforlife thank you very much for the guidance. The TC I have coming is dark blue with creme leather interior and vinyl top. I would really love to put some Vogue white and gold walls on it too. It is coming from Florida of course, to Virginia. The guy I bought it from also put an all new exhaust system on for me as that Florida rust was building underneath. Would love to keep in touch with you and would love to share some photos. I plan on taking it to the military base for the oil changes and light repair work as they provide all the tools and the bay and lift for like $25. Thanks again.
Nice, to see your video. I have it ain't in condition of your car. But I love mine runs good. 24000 miles I changed intake manifold. As well oxygen sensor fuel injector abs sensor and mass air flow sensor some rust here and there but it runs great air suspension and and I love this car and it was for free. This OG army veteran appreciate that from a pastor from church God bless you and your family.
Nice car … I have a 1999 Lincoln town car executive, with 96,038 miles on it … and it’s one of the best cars I’ve, ever owned , and probably will ever… I’m about to do the springs and shocks kit to mine … I paid 4 grand for mine , I’m the second owner …
Looking to get this exact vehicle and/or a 2007 Town Car. Thanks for the video sir! What are your yearly expenses insuring it and upkeep if you don't mind me asking. This would be my first car and I'm excited!
Congrats on the new car man, it will last you a lifetime with regular oil & filter changes. I spend about $360 a year on insurance. And labor cost are very low as I do pretty much all the mechanic work on it. These are very easy to work on and all parts for it are petty cheap. At around 170k the rear air suspension will start to fail but that's a cheap & easy fix, just replace the air bag's with coil springs. And if you ever notice a wet floor water is leaking in under the passenger side cowl, another easy fix. Take it off and silicone around it and problem fixed. Those are really the 2 most common issue's with these cars.
i love these big behemoths! recently bought a 2007 Signature L with 127k all i did to it was crawl inside the trunk and throw some grease on the mechanical hinges for the trunk and it quieted her right up! people dont expect a young guy like me to be driving such a huge car, so the looks i get are pretty entertaining
I just bought a 04 Signature with 106,000 miles on it, Paid $4500. I went to South Carolina to get it....I live in east TN. It's in perfect condition like yours, same color and everything. The underside and body of the car is like new...Interior too. It had the coil springs on it but I converted it back to the air ride suspension. I also have an 07 Signature Limited that I bought a couple of years ago that mechanically runs perfect that I only paid $500 for with 178,000 miles on it. The body is a little rough on it though because the previous owner put it into a ditch, it's not worth fixing the body on it. The differences between the 04 and the 07 town cars are pretty negligible. The air bag setup was exactly the same, so I used the 07 as the donor car for the 04, for the airbags and compressor. I also took some interior parts from the 07 that were perfect and swapped them out onto the 04, like the little buttons on the door panel storage compartment and the center console. I just wanted a reliable and comfortable travel car to take on long trips. These cars are super reliable, cheap to repair, easy to work on, and luxurious. I love these cars.
That's awesome man, I'm glad you had the part's car for the swap. I wish they still made these but will never be. When car's were still car's and now rolling iPad's
Thank you for this video! I'm considering buying a 2005 Lincoln Town Car Signature Limited and you've convinced me. For driving it 6 years and 100,000 miles your maintenance doesn't sound too bad. I have a Lexus LS400 and I just can't afford to fix it. The parts and labor are too expensive. It's a lot cheaper for the Lincoln and it's still a very nice car. So how many miles do you have on it now? What repairs have you had to do since this video? Again, thanks man.
No problem man and it currently sits on 263K and since this video, no maintenance no check engine light and running as smooth as the day I bought it if not better. I did just give it a good detail on Monday. I wash it more than anything... and go for it man you won't be disappointed with you purchase
I also have one it's a Singature Town car bought it new in 2004 garage kept has 52 thousand actual miles. People see it said it looks new have taken good care of it. Love the car ride is smooth like the body style. No issues at all. Can't go wrong owning a town car.
I have the 04 Signature series does tinting windows interfere with the rear defrost working and should I change oil at 3000 miles had oil changed in 7/23 dome indicator says 29% oil life but I haven't driven it 3000 mi I really only drive it on Sunday cruises
In my opinion the Ford panther series (crown Vic’s, marquees, and town cars) are the best all around cars ever made, the town car has the smoothest ride probably ever, their reliability is legendary and the 4.6 is a bulletproof engine, the parts are cheap and plentiful, they have plenty of power and are decently fast, they handle well for being a huge car, relatively easy to work on if you know what you’re doing, and on top of it all they’re affordable
Yes, extremely reliable and dependable, mine now have 283k on the clock, I would be more but in driving my other car at the moment. And yes everything on the car is very easy to replace even the air bags, I went with the air to coil spring conversion and it still rides like a dream. And plus it's cheaper to go that route and never gotta worry about them for a long ass you own you car.
So the easiest way for the common air bag problem is to change it to springs. But with that, wouldn't the Air Bag Light be on all the time? How to fix this?
Yes the air to coil spring conversion is the easiest and most cost effective way to do it. But once complete the air suspension light will stay on. To get the light to turn off is to cut a couple of wires under the dash on passenger side. Or simply plugging everything back up. Or so I've heard. I didn't go that route because my air compressor was kinda noisy as it was going bad so doing the conversion eliminated the noisy compressor and fixed the sagging rear end. The air suspension light doesn't bother me at all. The conversion is so old now that I don't even think about anymore.
@@LA_Commander Not possible in Germany. Every 2 years we need to get our cars to an inspection, general & emissions, if everything is legal after the law blabla (we are far away from logic laws, it's Germany after all we're speaking about 😅) They would immediately notice that the light doesn't work when you turn on the ignition 😉
@@LA_Commander The people that can afford the gas by our high prices & also the high emissions taxes. As daily I mostly drove u.s. vehicles. Best bang for your buck. It's not like we get the best trim levels here for cheap prices when it comes to BMW, Mercedes, VW (everything that is owned by them like Porsche, Audi, Seat, Maybach, Škoda etc. & in the end is the same car just for different prices with different images) Also the used car market sucks over her. Boring as fuck, everyone drives the same. So getting something different isn't that unusual for german Petrolheads. Also when it comes to new cars & best bang for your money, alot of us choose something like a Camaro. The European Models come always fully loaded with everything you can order for a fair price. So a brand new fully loaded Camaro 2SS is around 58000€ (a bit over 62000 $). It's not possible to get a similar car with all those options, the performance, the quality etc. when it comes to a german brand. A stupid VW Golf/Rabbit can cost you the same with a stupid 1.6 or 2.0 engine & not even fully loaded as the Camaro for an example.
I need a comfy riding car like this. I'm very disappointed in how uncomfortable cars are today. Finally upgrading from early 2000s Lexus - everything now is hard seats and stiff suspensions.
I love that car! I have a 1993, wish mine had a tachometer. Question, what was the mileage when your air bags started leaking? I’m at 128k miles, and no leaking as yet.
I got a question since you have a 2004 and on the oil filler cap on mine it says to put 5W20 oil What weight oil do you run in yours? I've always put 5W30 in the 1999 i had it ran fine now Ford wants to run 5W20 I don't get it unless it's strictly for gas mileage.
Not sure how sensitive these engines are, but I would NEVER run a different weight than recommended for your engine. Many of the newer engines will screw up the VVT if you try to run 5W30 in a 5W20 engine.
@@joeblow4888 the Ford 4.6L modular V8 2 valve does not have variable valve timing, so it's safe to run 5w30 oil in it. It would come down to personal preference I suppose. A colder climate would probably be better off with 5w20, while a hotter climate could probably benefit from 5w30
i just bought my 2004 LTC and its has 118k miles. ob has cosmetic issues interior wise but everything works like brand new. does need a realignment, new tires, rear diff flush. Speaking of which, did you ever flush your rear diff? mine is got a leaking gasket so im doing it anyways but its recommended every 100k miles
Yes the car rides excellent with the coil springs and shocks that come with the kit. I don't notice any difference and would prefer the kit over the air suspension. Reason being, over the years I've had the car while the air suspension was still working perfectly fine I noticed the air compressor getting louder and louder. And it's only due to the age of the car and milage etc. I converted mine while everything was still working as it should, just a little louder than normal compressor and the only other sign that let me know that it was going out was after the car was parked for a couple of day's I stared noticing that the rear would be sagging or losing air. Because the rear air bags stated to leak. So seeing it like that was an eye sore to me so I converted it not long after. I heard of all the nightmare stories of replacing the air suspension being thousands of dollars. But it's really not. I could've replaced the air bags and been good to go but would've had to replace the air compressor sooner or later so going to coil springs was way cheaper and easier to do and you don't have to be an ASE certified mechanic to do it either. So it did a couple of things fit me. For 1 it's a permanent fix and I'll never have to worry about seeing a sagging rear suspension ever again and it took care of the annoying air compressor noise. Lastly as far as loading it down with people or what not really just depends on the weight. The most I've put in it would be 11 or 12 24 packs of water in the trunk plus my tool bag so maybe 300 to 400lbs give or take and it didn't sag too bad. It would be the same as any other car carrying the same load. Now the same situation with the air suspension would put a lot of strain on it because it would constantly be working trying to maintain the proper ride height. So taking a long trip would really put it to the test. To and from the grocery store piece of cake. These cars will take whatever you throw at them so these cars will still be on the road for a long time to come, take care my man.
@@57LHemi Thanks for your answer. Since the air suspension seems to be the major difference between the Towncar and a Grand Marquis, would one be the same as the other after the conversion you did to your Towncar?
@@TheNoncritical1 I think the town car would still ride better in my opinion. Nothing against it but the ride of the Grand Marquis is very similar to Crown Victoria, I've owned them all and so even with the coil springs is more comfortable than the grand marquis
That's awesome man, I just hit 276,400 in mine today and it's still running strong. I think the key is to not abuse them and treat them right and they'll that good care of you.
Been binge watching your videos. I have an 03 Lincoln Executive with 120,000 miles it has a blown spark plug and I noticed mine is starting to squat a little in the rear. Have you ever had any issues with a blown spark plug? This will be the second blown plug on mine. Very nice ride by the way.
Cool man thanks, and I've never had the blown spark plug issue with this car but I had a close friend who also had an 03 ultimate that did. She had it fixed with the helicoil kit. It's re- thread the blown hole with a permanent metal piece that fixes the issue for good.
Damn I miss my town car lol , i got a 09 Lexus. And now a 2016 ram. And I love my truck so not getting rid of it. But maybe my brother might wanna sell the town car back to me 🤔
I have 3 datsuns 1979 but they are not running, I was starting a project but because I wasn't focused I did let them stay on my house for 2 years now. I'm looking reliability and comfort, obviously my 3 datsuns need some $$$$ and work till I make them comfortable enough and although the 4 cylinder engines on these are reliable, I don't got the time for that project. I love my datsuns but idk, maybe I could sell the 3 of them to buy something that is not a "project car" and reliable. I saw that they are selling a 2004 Lincoln Town car for $1,600 around where I live in good condition tho.
Beautiful luxurious car. For all of the things you have done to your car, how much would you say that you have invested in all of the repairs etc during all of the years?
Thanks man if I had to put a dime on it I'd say maybe a couple of thousand dollar's at the most. The car has paid for itself time after time in the amount of time I've owned it. It's been very reliable, dependable and maintenance free for the most part. A lot more time on the road and even less time in the shop for sure.
@@57LHemi What do you think of the 1998 Lincoln Town Car Signature Touring, with dual exhaust and a 3:55 rear axle? Is there a performance difference from the regular version? Is it worth buying?
@jehad Zareer 2000 yes the dual exhaust model has more hp and faster than the single exhaust model's. They are really nice cars and built to last for a long time, you can't go wrong when buying one.
Hey bro nice Ultimate! Im looking into a Ultimate myself. Exactly like yours exept pearl white. Only has 73K original miles. Dealer is asking $7999. But I think I can get it for $7K....is that great deal?
A old Iranian guy sell me his town car executive series with only 80k miles on it , paint no god interior pretty good 👍 for only 4,000$ it was a good price i think
I own same exact one same color no sunroof, but mine came with fog lights, love the car no engine or transmission issue but a bunch of electric problems smh, 😡 I replaced the upper and lower shaft, rack and pinion, and power steering still stiff Im about to give up on this car 😭…
Thanks for noticing, it was like that when I bought it. I've had the car for year's and haven't noticed and drivability issues. To me it look like it was improperly strapped down while in tow or dragged by its frame.
@@57LHemi find a good welder and have them clean it up and box it in and should make it good as new but yes you do have a beautiful car i have a 2004 signature series i think my heater core is going out i smell coolant when it warms up but havent had any leaks yet
@@robertgussler4393 thanks for the advice, I'll try to find a local welder that can smooth it out for me. And that sucks the dreaded heater core, good thing it's not leaking
Probably a dumb question but how's the gas mileage and does it take regular or premium? I'm looking at either a grand marquis or town car to get as a family 3rd and my daily for a while so I can do some nuch needed work on my truck.
Has mileage is pretty good on it considering the size of it. It gets around 17 18 city and about 24 26 on the highway on regular unleaded. And go with the town car as the ride and comfort will be better.
@@57LHemi I didn't put a factory compressor in because they sucked and the bags are cheap. I support your decision most people say it gives the same ride
The air suspension rides much better. Plus, the pump and bags, etc is cheap, a few hundred dollars. And that's ever 10 years. I'm staying with the air suspension.
They are nice cars. However, having owned Town Cars from 1976, 1988, 1997, and 2003, I have to say that, in my opinion, 1990’s generation was the best. From the standpoint of practicality for driving today. We daily drove the 2003 for about 3 years before selling it and buying the 97. The 2003 was just not luxurious. Very sterile and the metallic fake wood was ridiculously bad. I love the 70s and 80s Town Cars, but the 70’s are just too big to use everyday if you live in a city of any size. The 80s cars are beautiful and comfortable, but they disintegrate around you if you live in a place that has winter weather. Our 97 now has 135,000 miles, is in great shape, zero rust despite living in Iowa, and runs like a champ. Of all the TCs I would say that the styling of the 70s is the best, 99s second, 89s third, 2000s and very distant last. Again, only my own opinions from experience.
