Watch the complete final round broadcast of the 2004 Masters. Phil Mickelson birdies the 72nd hole to win his first major championship, by a single stroke over Ernie Els.
His dumbest call was when Bubba Watson won. "Another Watson - wins the Masters". He's still desperately trying to reach Al Michaels call in the 1980 Winter Olympics. "Do you Believe in Miracles?"
"Is it his time.....YES AT LONG LAST" This is why we love this great game. Goosebumps watching the finale on 18. The Masters is the greatest tournament in golf, and this for me is one of its many highlights down the years. Great call from Jim Nantz. Thanks for posting (from the home of golf).
I remember oh, so well. My favorite golfer winning his first major at long last. I couldn't sit for the final hour of the telecast, and when Phil's winning putt dropped, I just stood there saying "I can't believe it" over and over, tears running down my cheeks.
This is the best golf broadcast ever. I wanted Mickelson to win, but somehow the course and the players were so amazing that I sincerely rejoiced the successes of everyone. This was pure joy from beginning to end.
You probably dont care at all but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost my password. I appreciate any help you can give me!
Dan Jenkins said this one was the best Sunday Augusta ever had. It had everything: not only did Mickelson finally got the monkey off his back in epic fashion, he defeated another Els (not just anybody), who had TWO eagles(1:50:20 and 3:06:15); KJ Choi's extremely rare eagle at 11 (2:35:58) and unexpected long putt at 13 (3:08:49). Phil nearly holing it on 14 (3:35:26)... Possibly the biggest amount of roars-per-hour of any Sunday since '86! Phil, Els, Choi: Arguably the crowd favorites of America, Africa, and Asia at the time, respectively. Ol' Langer from Europe with a strong showing (chip-in at 1 31:33 ) Plus, Harrington's ace at 16 (3:18:32) followed by ANOTHER ace in the very next group by Triplett (3:32:16). DiMarco's putt at 13 took forever to get the hole(3:25:32), and Phil getting the greatest break of his life when he got a perfect read from him on 18 (4:27:50). Young Sergio with an awkward interview after a strong round (he was gonna have to wait 13 more years to get the monkey off HIS back).
ya, I agree. Some of these commentators though man smh... I remember watching this Masters live. And I remember Bobby Clampet just totally ruining that KJ Choi eagle. It's like dude, don't TELL US he makes this shot! How do they not know that?
Hard to believe this happened almost 20 years ago. Arguably greatest Masters of all time. Great finish, great shots, crowd was on fire and Arnold’s farewell.
It’s probably because deep down in his heart he knew he was going to win that day. He just had so much confidence in his swing and ball striking that nothing could faze him.
A really big, thank you to the Masters for putting these videos out here on youtube! Seeing them brings back some great memories and still, they feel so fresh. These episodes (seeing them once every week) are a perfect way to getting through the boredom created by this pandemic. Love it; Thanks! (Also) to you and all other golf-lovers out there. Take care and stay safe. We are going to get through this together! 💓👍
That’s why Ernie is known as the “The Big Easy”! Possibly the best and the most accurate nickname of any professional golfer, especially when you think of Ernie’s personality, attitude, rhythmic golf swing and behaviour on and off the course!
Got to meet Phil at the 1992 Greater Hartford Open, right after he turned pro. I was volunteering at the tournament, manning a tent on the 9th hole handing out refreshments to the players and caddies during the Tuesday practice round. Was one of the nicest guys I met that day. Got his autograph on one of the quiet signs and still have it to this day, hanging up in my home office. Figure I have to get my Master's fix this way since the tournament has been postponed.
Hard to believe it's been 16 years. To me this seems like yesterday. I have to admit i was always an Els fan and am sorry he had never won a Masters; i can't say the same for Norman. What a great day this was, so much action and great play. I'll never forget this day.
@@planetX15 Loved Greg Norman. He was one of the most talented golfers of all time, had SO many heartbreaking losses, and handled them like a true sportsman. He even had one of the coolest nicknames in sports history as well. Hard to not like lol. I dont know why anyone WOULDNT.
I was too young to see the '86 Masters and even '97, so this is the one that sticks out in my mind as the greatest I've seen as it happened. As a huge Ernie Els fan, it was devastating when he lost, especially since he never got close to the green jacket again. But everyone loves Phil, right? What a champion!
I was at the 1781 Masters and saw all the greats, including George Washington. He shot 76 the final day and placed fourth behind Hamilton, Jefferson, and Franklin. Thomas Paine won on the final hole by firing a shot heard around the world.
I had forgotten how exciting this tournament was, equal, in fact, to the Nicklaus win in ‘86, in my opinion. How could anyone not like Phil Mickelson? Such a boyish face, wry smile, mischievous and truly, one of the all time greats of the game.
Nothing like the Masters. The prestige, the course, the music, its like Wimbledon. Sports royalty. I really feel badly for those sports fans that think golf on TV is boring, because the Masters is something special, and they are really missing out on a classic event.
Still one of the greatest moments in golf history...Phil sinking that final putt on 18, jumping what seemed like 4 feet in the air, bear hugging Bones. Goosebumps every time.
In case you were wondering (?) that beautiful whimsical/fantastical background music being played when discussing the past history of the Masters and it's Champions, is from "Peter Pan 2003"...I was and still am a BIG FAN of Jeremy Sumpter (even though I have not seen a any new movie of his in years) and, of course, Phil Mickelson who won this 2004 Masters tournament. It only seems like yesterday. Oh my, how time goes by so quickly 😢...this is just one of many Phil victories and very special, because it was his 1st MAJOR. 😊👍✔
This and the Red Sox (not even a fan) that year... nothing like a self destructive perennial runner up finally coming through under the pressure that had beaten and defined them for so long. Magnificent theater
Just noticed : before he makes the final putt, they show Ernie on the putting green, and in the background you can see Phil's daughter & their Nanny walking towards the 18th green.
My wife was yelling at me to get in the car to go to my mom's house for Easter. I told her she can wait after Phil's putt or go without me. What a memorable moment.
This was actually the first golf tournament I ever watched in full, around the time I was really getting into golf. Phil was my favourite player, basically because he's left handed like me. These days, thanks to a bad back and the fact that golf is literally the most frustrating thing in the universe, I don't play much golf, but I still have fond memories of this.
Ernie walked off the 13th green 3:06:07 up by three shots, played the final five holes one-under, and still lost. Brutal- stands alongside The Open Championship playoff loss later the same year as the toughest losses of his career.
That was fate, Phil getting a perfect line from DiMarco, and taking full advantage to win his first major! As Jim Nantz said “is it his time? Yesssss at long last”!!!
You wanna feel old? Look at the images of all these golfers today. I went into instant depression. I hate how time goes by so fast. All these golfers faces have changed so much! I feel so old.
Just watched Phil talking on David Feherty's golf show. Phil's grandfather died a few months before that Master's tournament and he told Phil to win the Masters that year. Phil told Feherty he thought he missed that last putt but believed his grandfather nudged it in for him right at the end.
When Phil went down 3 on the front nine, I left to do something. Never figured on the comeback. I got home just in time to see the final putt. If not for this upload, I wound never have been able to see what I missed.
Amazing tourney all week!! This still makes me tear up...Up to this point you could say Phil was the greatest to never win a major. He and the Big Easy played their hearts out. Only moment that comes close was Sergio winning last year
SNES drunk Els played such great recovery shots and chips - great weighted putts and par saves - (like 16) Mickelson made it easy for himself by playing perfect approach shots to leave simpler putts - 18 was example of this Mickelson took 3 wood and second shot made easier _birdied - Els took driver and with great bunker shot and putt nearly birdies but too much to do . Great duel though
Weir looked like a great shotmaker, with a lot of great years ahead of him. I dont know what happened to his game, but he really dropped off after his Masters win.
James Fondren I promise you he tossed it into the crowd. Bones was grabbing the flag as Phil grabbed the ball out of the hole, kissed it, and tossed it into the gallery.
so many sports were at their peak in early 2000's. Golf, F1, NASCAR, INDYCAR, Basket, Soccer, Football, and the list goes on and on.... something was special with the opening of a new millenium.
