2005-2010 Dodge Charger P0462 Fuel Gauge Repair 

scared me with your technical ways. But i sat thru the video and 100% will i be this way from now on . I Didn't think people can be as technical as you on vehicle. thank you for this great example.

Excellent video showing proof of concept. I just had a 2008 charger with the p0462 in the shop. Got to the point of where I was very suspicious of the cluster but the boss stopped me because I already spent an hour on it.

Thanks for this video, hopefully I can diagnose and fix my Magnum's gas gauge soon. ** I would like to point out those are capacitors, not resistors, so can't simply read resistance values. Very low resistance indicates a short. Very high resistance (such as you saw) should validate the capacitors are fine (50K seems not high enough, but for a tiny surface-mount cap, then maybe so). Typically need to have the polarity of your leads correct (which wouldn't matter for a resistor) ** regardless, the variance you saw may have revealed the poor connection on one of the pins, which is all that matters. The caps are probably just to drain any noise picked up by the wires - there must be another trace on the board for that pin that connects it to the chip or computer controlling the fuel gauge. If I can't figure that out, I'm ABSOLUTELY willing to touch up the solder on those pins and see if that fixes it. To explain - you can read the circuit board labels for each component, where "R03" would mean resistor #3, or "C68" for capacitor #68, etc...

Fixing one now The issue is actually the resistors in the cluster The resistors are the black parts marked 1001 indicating 1K precision resistors Mine were cracked between the end cap and resistive film on the resistors

I literally have this same issue, replaced both my pumps.

Thanks for the video. I have a 2008 pursuit that is having similar problems. Both units replaced still only reads half full when tank is full. Then will suddenly drop to nothing and come back after a few minutes. I’m going to follow what you did step by step hopefully that is the problem as well. Keep up the great videos.

The device you resoldered is a capacitor and is not the problem. The actual problem is caused by a bad solder joint on the big resistor (r323) just below and to the left of pin 1. I suggest resoldering both of those resistors.

Put both units in my 07 300C hemi when I fill it up the hand stops at a half tank I tried to calibrate it and it will hit full for a second the fall right back to half any suggestions thanks brother

2 of these 2010s with same issue, last one it would work 95% of the time so just ignored it, this one stuck on 1/2 all the time so will tear into it. vid seemed to show when calibrating temp you had needle set to low side, it sat below lowest and reached just below highest.. other than that nice vid, seen a few of these when had my other 10... your vid had more detail on the rear test procedure the others were mainly the solder work on the gauges.. they said the trace for the board was bad in other vids and they modded a little to make sure it made contact.. I did not save so can't link...

Just bought a 2010 dodge charger with this issue. I noticed it would register a full tank after driving it a while between on an off so leads me to belive its the cluster having issues. Just felt like a little wiggle from the acceleration and stop and goes was all it needed. Luckily Im also getting a 2009 with a bad transmission as a parts car for it. Ill just swap the clusters out and see if that fixes it and troubleshoot the current one as done here and go from there to fix it if this is the issue, this way I still have a spare.

can you confirm that this was the actual fix and worked in the long term?. i see no definitive answers here that is was.

Would this process apply to p0463 and p0268 scanner says high volt for both. Also what pin is for the FLS ground wire

My CHARGER 07 has new pump and new filter (passenger side is NOT a pump but a filter by the way). And since then, my fuel gauge goes half way whenever my tank is full. The only thing is I DONT HAVE ANY DCT FAULT CODE. Does it matter ? I'd like to follow your tutorial ...but you are not mentioning what hardware you are using (those handheld diagnostic tools). What are they and where to buy please ?

Been trying to solve this problem for awhile. My fuel gauge doesn’t read properly but my shift indicator and odometer also don’t work. Do you think these are all tied together?

You used scan tool to recalibrate gauges, will the factory reset using the odometer reset button and key on do the same thing?

What would the part be called to order just the gas gauge for the cluster? I can not find a replacement online

why arent the gauges lines up correctly ? on the temperature and gas gauge? will they self adjust eventually ?

Are you saying left is driver and right is passenger side? Im trying to install aftermarket pillar gauges for fuel and need to know what wire to tie into.

This code just came on for my car do I need to replace fuel pump as well with the fuel filter?
