I was informed to not tighten or torque to front bolts until there is load on the suspension(ie. wheels on the ground)

I have to do this job soon on the ground with jackstands and hardly any clearance. I can already feel the backpain that awaits me....

turn the wheel all the way to the left and the rack moves right out of the way

It seems it’s a little easier than the front control arms for the 94-04 Mustangs since with those cars you still have to deal with the spring if you I haven’t done the coil over upgrade. I upgraded my 02 with BMR Suspension front control arms and it was tedious. I think I saved my self like between $700-$800 in labor. Only thing I had to pay was for the alignment.

Great video on installation. Changing out my lower control arm on my 2007 GT. But I have the dealer doing it. I'm too old and blind to do it meself!

AM forgot to mention the most important part, that bolts need to be torque to specification, if not you will continue to hear noises

My 2010 was made (08/09) talk about a pain in the ass! It’s impossible to find the exact day.. looking at having to buy both models and see which one fits. 🤦🏻‍♂️

So unless Your arms are certified torque wrenches, how do you know you’re tightening these nuts and bolts to factory specifications?

I don’t understand why I am having to hammer the new ball joint stud back into the slot, like for hours I’ve been hammering away at this damned thing with very little progress so far

I bought my '06 GT with these parts fried. Regretted not doing the work myself but had some similar work on my '97 SHO and was like.. "nah". Labor was around $700, sort of played myself but at least i didn't get dirty or frustrated.

How do you a torque wrench on the 2 nuts on the larger bushing? I ask because I just don't see how you can get a torque wrench in there.

You gotta use the ol elbow torquealator.

tighten as much as you can and look at it and say; "thats not going anywhere" and it basically should stay

Quick question! Wheel is wobbling at 9 and 3 position off the ground. I already replaced outer tie rod. Inner is good. Will replacing the control arm fix the issue? 10:37
@ChiefEli
@ChiefEli 9 месяцев назад
it could be the wheel bearing as well. but if you replace the control arm and that doesn’t help i’d try the wheel bearing or it could just need a simple realignment

torque specs?
@Dompass1999
@Dompass1999 4 года назад
you have to put the car down on the floor when fully tightening and torquing lower control arms bc they have to be in the right position and have the right load . the way he did this i can bet it wont last 7 months before making a clunking sound agaib
@Dompass1999
@Dompass1999 4 года назад
from experience with changing many lower control arms
@ryanv7195
@ryanv7195 4 года назад
So when you assemble everything you then lower it on the floor and get under the car to torque it. Is there enough room? Do you mean to drive it on ramps then torque it? I'm interested in your advice as I want to do this for my mustang and dont want to do it twice
@Dompass1999
@Dompass1999 4 года назад
Ryan v yeah i did my 2011 mustang 5.0 and they started clunking after 7 months.. watched many videos after that and when its on jacks and your assembling everything tighten the bolts but dont fully fully tighten them THAN either lower the car fully down and torque the bolts OR jack up the entire hub assembly/lower control arm to where it has load on it as if it was on the ground. the problem with torquing it down with no load on the suspension is that basically its not tightening in the right position so what happens is if u were to torque down the bolts in the air and drop it to the floor the entire lower control arm is now under extreme stress bc it was torqued without load on it
@Dompass1999
@Dompass1999 4 года назад
Ryan v so by torquing them on the ground its in the right position and load and are not under stress and if they are under stress the ball joints wear out quickly
@ryanv7195
@ryanv7195 4 года назад
@@Dompass1999 so when the car is on the ground under load do you just turn the wheel a certain way so that you can torque everything down right? What you are saying makes lots of sense. Just trying to picture the process in my head. How did you do yours? I imagine with turning the wheel you can access the bolts that need torquing
@omarmoreno1772

You have removed the steering arm bolt and move it over just enough to free that stupid bolt
