I've owned the car for almost a year and I wanted to give everyone an unbiased review on it. Acura started production on this car in 2004 and in the US, it's named the Acura TSX. In Japan and Europe, it's known as the Honda Accord. Being a 2.4L engine producing about 200HP, the K24A2 was an engine that featured Honda's i-VTEC. Variable Valve timing was used on both the intake and exhaust cams.
I talk about owning the car, issues that I've ran into, drivability and overall impressions of the TSX. It's a great car and I hope this video will help anyone out there looking for a beautiful yet reliable daily driver.

I have a TSX 2004, 175K miles, manual transmission. Had it for 7 years. Very reliable, fun to drive on freeways, looks very classy. I find suspension is a bit firm especially on Canadian roads constantly subject to freezing an thawing (frost heaves, potholes). Anyhow, it's time to move on to an Acura RL for a smoother and quieter ride. I'd buy a TSX again if I lived in California. I agree with you that the TSX is a cool car for just about anyone, regardless of age. Anywhere, any day, anytime type of car!

Thanks for the comment! Yeah. the RL is definitely an upgrade. I might consider one if the TSX stops running one day :) .

I had an 05 6 speed in silver. Such a pleasant car to drive shifted like butter and never gave me any headaches. 8 days after you uploaded this video I got hit real bad in my acura and ended up in the hospital for 3 days. Needless to say I wouldn't have been alive if it weren't for this car. Best of luck with the car, now I drive an 02 dodge cummins now but I really do miss my acura at times.

picked up 2005 TSX auto yesterday for a great price, since then looking at your videos to educate my self and learn more about car and how to repair, much appreciate your work since it helps encourage other people to try and repair your own vehicles, btw ever had any issues with rear calipers? mine is not very good it grinds a bit, its too cold in northeast, looking forward to a nice warmish day to work on it, Thanks once again.

Congratulations on the purchase TSX's are great cars and very reliable. If your rear calipers are grinding, the read pads might be worn and needs to be replaced. I had a similar issues and after replacing the rear pads, the issue went away. Good luck and keep me posted on your progress.

cool video! very informative my friend. you have just reassured me with my purchase. picked up an 05 tsx 6spd 130km from the insurance auction. front end damage was all cosmetic and also had the dog leg dented a bit.. slowly acquiring parts to replace, but excited to get it back on the road! I will try that amsoil gear oil tho!
@Echizen32kMedia
@Echizen32kMedia 7 лет назад
Thanks for the comment! Yes I'm approaching 175K and the car still runs strong and idles perfectly. Amsoil does wonders, it's a bit pricey but if you sign up for the yearly membership, you can get it in bulk for a cheaper price. Cosmetic stuff can be replaced so I think you're good to go. Good luck!

Great video! I have an Acura 2005 TSX w/ Navi at 116,000 miles I was wondering if you can make some tutorial videos on installing some aftermarket stuff on the car, I haven't had any luck looking on any video about installing a new ballast unit, installing new stereo speakers, etc. If you can make some Acura 2005 TSX tutorial videos I would greatly love LOVE this channel. Great job on the video edit!

Thank you! Yes if I ever install anything aftermarket, I'll make a tutorial for sure. I regret not going one for the aftermarket radio. It was a lot of work. If I had to go back, I'd pay more money to buy the dash unit that integrates the climate controls so no cutting would be needed. Anyway, thanks for the comment!

Hard to find honest video reviews on these cars on the internet. Nice review! Been thinking about a 6 speed TSX or similar year IS350, something tells me the TSX is more practical and fun but the IS is more refined. What are your thoughts, p.s I already have my fun car, a s2k ;D

I just found a super rare 07 manual tsx that has less than 35k, it's a salvage title due to a rear end collision. The new owner was a body guy that replaced the rear quarter panel and bumper. I intend on having it checked at a reliable local tire company that I've used for years. I was told that their ailgnment check along with a visual should tell you what you need to know about any driving problems in the future.

Thanks for the video. Just picked up an 04 6spd to drive on the weekends. Reminds me of the integra I used to drive 20 years ago that was a ton a fun. This car has some of that and I don't feel weird as an older guy driving it. Appreciate the heads up on some of the items to look out for. I have always liked the 2004-2005 TSX. It looks perfect as-is. I did not like the face change they made on the 06-07 model that ruined the look IMO. It's just a tight ingot of a car, and I do agree it's pretty damn timeless. The dash is simple, very cleanly laid out and symmetrical, and looks and feels very well built. Then you get to the car's high-revving engine and 6-speed, and it really was the total package then, and is now as a daily driver. The ONLY thing I would wish for in the car is the sound of a 6-cylinder, but beyond that this is a car I have always kept my eye out for.

Thanks for this! I thought I'd have to look at buying another car, since I've got the 2004 and have had shifting problems for a year now. The clutch was changed last year, the transmission was looked at, but shifting problem continued. Thanks to your video, I now know that it was a shift cable issue which will get fixed. I love my TSX, and it drives great with a mere 140K kilometers on it.

Hey Echizen, I have a 2008 CL9 2.4 European Accord which is basically a TSX, I have some issues with the 6 speed manual, when it goes to second it's kind of like going in in 2 steps. Also, when shifting to reverse sometimes it gets stuck between neutral and reverse and I struggle to get it out from there 10-20 seconds... I also gave it a nasty grind a few months ago when doing redline shifting from 1st to 2nd... not my fault, I actually suspect the clutch isn't fully depressing. Regarding the first symptoms maybe the cables are bad? I only have 60k miles.

So I see that you got an RSX as well. I'm in the market for a new DD. I've owned an NC miata, a mkv GLI, a FA5, an EP3 SI. If I don't need 4 doors, would you 100% say wait for an RSX Type S over a TSX 6MT? I just missed a 5th gen prelude. But a TSX is on my short list.
@Echizen32kMedia
@Echizen32kMedia 2 года назад
Wow you had a lot of cars! To be honest, I would wait for the RSX Type S because it's more fun to drive than the TSX. TSX is more luxury, but having a 6-spd TSX is also kind of rare. Either way, you'll have fun in both, TSX is heavier and feels like a boat, whereas the RSX feels more nimble. Good luck!

Hi Van! Feels likes I'm talking to myself. No I bought the part, but I had my friend who owns a shop replace it for me. Is the car great in terms of handling and speed? Like do you get a quick response when you floor the car? What cars are comparable to the 2004-2008 Acura Tsx?
@Echizen32kMedia
@Echizen32kMedia 7 лет назад
The car's handling is good enough in my opinion. It's an entry level luxury car and being FWD, you might get some understeer. I don't drive the car that hard in my opinion, but I think pickup speeds are fine. It's not the fastest car, but I enjoy having it as a daily driver. Other cars that compare to the 04-08 TSX are Audi A4, BMW 325i, Volvo S40, Lexus IS300 (maybe too sporty). I'm happy with it.

@Echizen32kMedia 7 лет назад
Hi Action! I might sound biased, but I would go with the TSX. I think the K Series (K20) engine is better in terms of reliability and modifications if you do decide to go that route. Although, assuming both cars are well maintained. My cousin has a 97 prelude, and it's having all sorts of problems, but that could only be related to that one car. Also, if your budget allows, the TSX is a better choice in terms of comfort, ride quality, and value. For a college student, $11,000 might be a lot and you don't want financial stress. MPG is similar although I've gotten 30mpg in my TSX before 100% highway speeds. Have you test driven both?

How was the drive-by-wire throttle? Did it lag as badly as some systems do (i.e. enough rev hang to interrupt smooth shifting or cause herky-jerky throttle application)? Would you recommend any year over another (I'm leaning towards 2006 as it gets the extra 5hp, but not the TPMS of the 07-08 models)?

I think the 2006+ looks a lot better and comes with Bluetooth. The front and rear looks for refined and I like it.

I think 180K is fine given the fact that it's been well maintained. You'll be needing to do a valve adjustment, wheel bearings, new tires just to name a few. But TSXs are great cars and I've seen plenty go to 300k with minor issues. If I sold my TSX today, i'd price it around 4500-5000. Good luck!!

Now, does all first gen tsx have timing chains or only the 04-05? Because 06-08 has different front as well.

how much did you pay for the car? i am looking at a 2008 acura tsx, they want 9000 with 123,000 miles but i dont know if it may be too much
@Echizen32kMedia
@Echizen32kMedia 7 лет назад
I paid $7200 for my 2005 TSX 6-spd with about 120K miles. I think 2008 is newer so that's why he's probably asking the $9000. Have you checked KBB and other private party sellers on the market to see how much they are asking?
@AlacraneroRevel
@AlacraneroRevel 7 лет назад
Echizen32k Media the retail price on kbb is $9,210

Echizen32k Media there was 3 more i was looking at,they were around 9k. one was 2007 and had 102k and the other one had 94k but it was 2006. there was a 2007 with nav for 7500 with 148k
@Echizen32kMedia

I think all those deals are great. If you get the 07, it'd be more of an upgrade, but none of those mileages seem a lot at all. The K Series engine is super reliable and IMO, one of the best engines Honda's ever produced. Keep me posted on your journey!

@Echizen32kMedia
@Echizen32kMedia 7 лет назад
I think it's a little high, but you can probably negotiate it to about $4500-4800. But if it was well maintained, I think the seller can get what he's asking.
@PGChillin23
@PGChillin23 7 лет назад
Echizen32k Media yeah that's around the price range i was thinking as well but the car has some work done to it, maybe that's why it's priced a little high, it's on coilovers and has wheels and a intake. what do you think?
@Echizen32kMedia
@Echizen32kMedia 7 лет назад
Honestly, I think a TSX is a good entry level luxury car. It doesn't need all of the coilovers, intake and upgraded parts. It isn't going to make the car go any faster. If you could convicne the seller to take off the parts, I'm sure he might be willing to lower the price. Or, you could buy it and then sell back the aftermarket parts. It's just a lot of time and effort on your hands, but it is was me, that's what I would do. Also, keep in mind that if the car is lowered, there will be more wear on other suspension components such as bushings, tie rod ends, tires might be wearing unevenly. Just something to keep in mind. Good luck my friend!

@Echizen32kMedia

Hi Hamza, the TSX has a timing chain and it's supposed to last the lifetime of the car. I have 175,000 on my TSX and just regular maintenance and it's been great so far!

i had the same. 04 6sp. started out with me grinding 3rd a few times. and i usually granny the car. the one time where i drive hard i destroyed the differential. broke a bunch of teeth.

One thing: the shift throw is very, very long compared to other cars you'd compare this car to. I get it didn't come as a type s or anything, but they did all the other sporty bits and left out the slightly shorter shifter, which is a pain to replace.

Would you say 8k is too much for a 2005 tsx with 170k miles but a lot of replaced parts and mods?
@Echizen32kMedia
@Echizen32kMedia 6 лет назад
Yes sir, I think that's a little too high. Mods don't really increase the value of the car as so many people confuse that with what the car is actually worth. I would say look for something stock or little cheaper. 2005 with 170k is closer to 5-5500.

I have a 04 TSX 6sp navigation that had issues with shifting as well. I had master and slave cylinders replaced with units from www.heeltoeauto.com/hydraulic-system-lines/ that solved the problem. They have great solutions to half shaft vibration issues: www.heeltoeauto.com/axles/fastline-performance-inner-axle-joint-and-boot-kit-left-2004-08-acura-tsx-flp.axle.innerjoint.cl9.1.html
