I was in middle school back then. I lived in VA, and I remember all the VT fans were talking shit beforehand, and praising Marcus Vick as a godly player. I loved every minute of this game. I went to school that following Monday completely decked out in Canes gear.
Remember this game too, Texas guy so didnt care about neither these teams but Marcus Vick got completely dominated that night and Miami was converting 3rd downs all night
This was the last year Miami had a truly great defense, yes we may have had some moments (example 2017 against Norte Dame), but consistently good defenses. This was the last year
...still waiting, college football is so much more fun when Miami is a Nat'l championship contender & scaring the livin' crap out of the rest of the programs..& this coming coming from an Atlien & a GTech fan. Hope Diaz gets em back
This covid thing is keeping us from seeing what we got this coming season . First time ever since I made this post 4 years ago that I feel some level of confidence that we can win 11 games this year.
I remember this game, I had a family obligation so I recorded it. I expected Miami to loose. Someone told me the score, I thought they were kidding. I got home late and watched it anyway. I could not believe how they dominated this game.
To this day I wonder what happened to Marcus Vick that night. Instead of trash talking, he was patting guys on the head and helping them up. Instead of taking care of the ball, he turned it over 6 times. Easily the biggest meltdown by a VT quarterback all time.
I can't believe miami ever got rid of these uniforms so nice. Wright was tough but he was so inconsistent it would've been great if things really worked out with him
Tyrone Moss injury killed the 2005 season for Miami.Running game was never the same after his injury late that year. They woulda given Auburn a tough game at Sugar bowl with Moss.VT played Auburn in the bowl after Miami lost to Georgia Tech
+Miles Lumpkin, yes, defense was no problem back then, we had a championship D, but we also had some down years with our offense and Kyle Wright, but I don't really blame him so much, it was a lack of training and like 3-4 different Offensive Coordinators, which bring their own offenses. So Wright suffered trying to learn multiple offenses, with no QB help!
Something about the class of 2013 recruits, I think they could be the start of the new resurgence like how the class of 1998 was the resurgence to the championship
They're all beastly this year. Been talking to my younger cousin who attends The U and the football team has been sleeping in the gym and living in the cafeteria. They're getting swoll!!!! Chickillo will definitely start seeing time at DT soon and make room for some other DE's to get in there. Everyone said he had a sophomore slump when in fact he was double teamed all season.
Such a hyped up game! But Miami completely ate Marcus Vick up, what a letdown he was. And Miami was converting their 3rd downs all night, just deflated the Hokies and the home crowd
This yr's D will surprise people. Everyone is healthy for the first time in 4 yrs. Ramon Buchannan is 100%, Shayon Green is 100% and actually got bigger (don't know how that's possible because he's a body builder), Curtis Porter, Luther Robinson, Darius Smith will be controlling the line and we'll get to see Earl Moore (Fr). That kid was huge when we recruited him and he got even bigger. If Vince Wilfork ever had a younger brother it would be this kid. Then add Chickillo, LB's and we're good.
Yes, 1 kid just got them off and another is getting them on.....$4,000 a pop....fun times. Yes, Stormy Johnson has been a nice surprise. I might have to run up to Orlando to see UCF vs Missouri on 9/29. Lots of football left to play, no doubt. Cheers!
Miami is 3-14 vs Alabama. Never played in the 1980's(1989 bowl game played 1-1-1990) and never played in the 2000s. Not sure what D Hernandez is talking about.
Whatever helps you feel more like a man and sleep better at night. It amazes me how you respond to people here. Like some annoyed teenage nerd who can't understand how a person can make a mistake. Let me know when that powerhouse UCF wins just 1 championship. I won't hold my breath.
Haha, great comments. I have a wonderful life my friend. Married, with 2 great kids, active in my church, I go to the gym 3x a week, I'm a 6 handicap golfer and we love to go boating. So I think I'm taking care of my family pretty well. I just corrected your comments. Miami never played Bama in the 2000's and the overall record is Alabama 14-3. Sorry you got owned for posting inaccurate comments. And yes it was the 89' season they played the bowl game. Go reread your comments. Just wrong.
My boy Brandon Meriweather was the shit in this game fo real, i'm the only one of all my friends who has & rocks around in a #19 Meriweather jersey where i live haha, cane4life =]
Wow I hope Miami destroys VT this year. I'm so sick of them beating us every year and poorly representing the ACC. Nice video by the way everyone really appreciates it.
Marcus Vick got demolished Bcus they line sucked but I think this game is what shook him up as a player. He was still good but not like his brother after this game
@LB3is2Fresh Yea right after DVD was drafted to the Raiders. Gruden and Kiper essentially went over and over with each Hurricane drafted about how all of them collectively underacheived and went on to say that DVD played harder than Brandon Harris.. I immediately went to ESPN.Com to track the draft instead of watching him and Gruden talk nonsense.
@blackonefifty And let me first say..Leggett was a bust -- probably the BIGGEST talent on offense was Darnell Jenkins during Wright's entire tenure as UM's quarterback. Sinorice Moss didn't hang around long.
knightguy11 has been claiming to be a Canes Fan for years and is the first one to say something negative about the Canes. He's a fake, he's an armchair superhero. Just because someone makes a typo online doesn't mean that you have to drop everything in a panic and because "someone on the internet is wrong". Must be sitting on top of a Clydesdale.
How did that comment work for you? worst defense I've seen in college football so far. You were right about 1 thing.......that defense has surprised me.....never thought they could give up yards as well as they do, lol.
@LB3is2Fresh Not saying he wasn't a bust, just saying imagine what could have been with good coaching.. As for Mel Kiper's opinion on anything. Mel Kiper lost credibility completely to me when he said DeMarcus Van Dyke played better than Brandon Harris during his tenure at Miami when the draft was on ESPN this year..
I don't "represent" Miami in any way, shape, or form. I do like Miami and I root for Miami. When you've been going to games since you were 14 and Howard Schnellenberger was calling your brother to recruit him, you kind of like to see them do well. I don't represent any team, even though I have a UCF degree hanging on my wall. It's just a game buddy, I don't live and die by what happens on a given Saturday. Life goes on and my daughter still needs braces, etc...get some perspective, lol.
Simply out coached. I don't like our DC so we're stuck with him till he's fired. Def is so young it's gonna take time and there's been no redshirting. Someone who isn't ignorant would understand that but the common armchair hero can't see beyond his beer gut. I said it once and I'll say it again. It's a sad day for college football when the Canes have to take a decade off so others have a chance to win a ship.
Even with a garbage defense and we still made it to the ACC champ game only to turn it down to show ncdoubleaholes we're fixing things here. We're returning everybody while other schools are trying to fill spots. Face it, future is a million times brighter at Miami than anywhere else.
Why the hostility? douche? really? Bama did take some years off no doubt...in fact I was at a game in 2001 when UCF beat Bama in Tuscaloosa(what a great day!). Bama did win 3 NC's in the 1960's, 3 NC's in the 1970's, 1992, 2009, 2011. Anyway I like how you reference Bama when talking about a dynasty. Bama is a real dynasty. Miami had a great 20 year run. Horrible pre 1980, and horrible now. You just can't beat me when I have the facts on my side buddy. Cheers!
Miami beat Bama in the 80's and during 2000's. Guess you fell asleep. I don't remember Bama winning as many championships as Miami did in those 30 yrs. We played with an unhealthy, too young and poorly coached Defense last year. We had one senior in the backfield along side a bunch of freshmen. Nobody, I repeat, NOBODY can win with a defense like that. Not even bama.
