2005 Nissan Frontier service oil light reset. 

You're thinking about the check engine lights.

Jason is correct. In this vehicle the service engine soon also doubles as the as the check engine light. When it returns it is because the computer is detecting an error in engine performance.

That's the way toyotas and such do it. Not Nissans.

No, not the Check Engine Light (CEL) you saw the Service Engine Soon (SES) light go out. Two completely diff items, though closely akin to each other. The SES is for the routine stuff, oil low, coolant low, etc. The CEL happens when the onboard computer gets messages from the various components that are waaaay outta spec, such as your transmission isn’t shifting at the correct RPMs or certain sensors aren’t sensoring what they are supposed to sensor, etc.

@@hutfrd check engine and service engine are the same thing. Different manufacturers call them different things

@@CumminsTech24 And what happens when vehicles have them both? Because a LOT of them do!! (mainly because they are not the same thing..)

Yeah I noticed that as well on some I was told if it does there's actually something else wrong in the engine and that's what's making it turn back on.

You probably know already that you have a problem with your engine and that light came on because of it. But if you haven't yet, go to your local auto parts store and let them run a scan tool on your vehicle or take it to a mechanic.

It does, but for some reason it will come right back on. I think I was told that if it does there is something else wrong.
