Not a problem sir, I'm happy to help. I would advise you to drop both front cats before removing the transmission...one thing I didn't mention in the video is that the driver's side front cat was replaced last year. Being aftermarket, that cat is much smaller than the original one. If your car has original cats, they will both need to be dropped. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Very good information. I have a 2005 Frontier Nismo with MT and 153K miles on it. I think my clutch is tired now and I don't think I can do it alone since I don't have the lift. The procedure is straight forward but the rusty bolts are the pain while lying underneath the truck. Thank You

Thank you for creating and uploading this video! I am diving into replacing my clutch tomorrow, and I have this exact year and model X, so this video has helped me get an idea of what to expect. You rock!

OctaneAutoTips, thank you for your video on ...2005 Nissan Xterra 4.0L 4x4 Clutch Replacement... i have to 2006 Nissan pathfinder4.0L 4x4 Automatic... and had the radiator go bad (still need to replace it) flushed and filled both radiator and transmission fluid and bypassed now only going to external transmission cooler. I know transmission would eventually go bad. so now i think i ran transmission with not enough fluid ( had to add about 2-4 quarts for it to show normal on dipstick).... so i flushed and refilled it tell it tell it pumped out good looking fluid. well now when i drive it cold it shifts fine but after about 3-5 min or once transmission fluid is Hot i lose acceleration but my RPM goes up. also some points to add is when it shifts from like 3rd to 4th.. or 4th to 5th i did get some vibration also what feels like a hard shift. my plan is to replace radiator and get a clutch kit is there any advice you could offer me or any recommendations on what else to look at/ replace. thank you Anthony

Update: 4LO would not engage because it was not plugged in. As for the sound, through much research and discussion i believe it is the Throw-out bearing. My mechanic is hesitant to believe it is the case as it would require a complete break down again. He feels that it needs to "break-in" I am humoring him for the moment, but what I have been observing is that when it is cold the sound does not return until everything has warmed up.

I have a 2012 Xterra 4x4. Need a new clutch soon. Do you reccomend Centerforce or OEM? I do some off roading and steep hills sometimes.

Thank you for this great step by step tutorial. It will be very usefull to our 4x4 club's members here in France where lots of us have Nissan Pathfinder and Navara D40 pick up (named Xterra and Frontier in your country Isn' it ? ). Most of them here have 2.5 Nissan diesel 174BHP engines. However original 240 mm clutch disks did not like the torque of this engine and many original clutches and flywheel had to be replaced with few thousand miles on the clock. I did not catch the manufacturer of the clutch Kit. Luk for the flywhell wasn't it ?

You are quite welcome, I am happy to help. To answer your question, Luk was the manufacturer for both the Clutch Kit and the Flywheel.

Awesome video. I'm ready to do a clutch kit changeout for my 2003 Nissan Frontier Xe 3.3 2WD Manual. Is their anything I can expect compared to this 4WD job you did? Maybe more simple. And would I need to resurface the flywheel on my 2WD Nissan? Mine just makes like a noise when its in neutral like something is loose. My pops says it sounds like the throwout bearing so its a matter of time itll eventually go out. So I'm watching how to get it done as I'm going to learn on my own. I don't want to pay high prices out of my pocket. So if you can tell me if my truck is a fairly easier job and what I need to replacd that be cool. I have the clutch kit on order now. Just playing the waiting game....Thanks in Advance

Hi mark. thank you for the detailed video. mark I have a Nissan navara 2007 model, VQ40 engine which is the same as the one you where working on. I had experienced a clutch slip, I got me a new one and replaced it. now I am experiencing another problem of gears not going in when the car is running. when off they go through easily. could you advise what should be done as I did not fiddle with the clutch master cylinder. thank you.

Hi Mark, great video... I have question I hope you can shed some light on. I just had my clutch rebuilt on 06 Xterra, and it does NOT take off like, as you put, a rocket. What I am experiencing is high RPM in gear and a slight rev between making a "whirl" sound I took it back to mechanic immediately since it is a very expensive repair and he gave me the "this is normal" response. I have road tested it now for close to 100mi and even some off road. my additional concern is that getting to 80MPH was a struggle and RPM's are high at that speed, also post rebuild 4LO will not fully engage. I would appreciate any insight you can offer. Thanks!

Mark, thanks a lot. I have a 05 xterra v6 4.0 6 speed and it happens that my wife ruin it too and now I have to replace the clutch. I have a friend who told me that I need to replace the entire transmission but I do not want to do that because I can not afford a new one and also I do not want an use one. I think is better to go your route. But how about the dual mass (loop) fly wheel. Where can I get it from? and also the clutch kit where can I purchase it? is it @ one of the auto part stores (Chucks, o'relly, Napa) or online? If online which one? Thanks for your help.

There really is no need to take the console and shifter out from inside the vehicle, the shifter can be unbolted from under the truck, either with a small ratchet and shallow sockets, or gear wrench, saves time and doesn't disturb the customers interior.

Please let me know if I missed something, but for a clutch replacement video, did you even show the removal of the clutch from the motor, or the replacing of the clutch back on the motor? I mean, no mention of torque specs? If you did have that in the video, please give me a idea of where in the time frame I need to watch.

Hi Mike 2 , so far nothing helpful on a Nissan Xterra. I am going to see if an adjustment is possible to help out before trying the replacement. Sorry I could not be of more help.

i think you need a video uploaded 1. Go to the channel of the person you want to contact. You can do this by clicking their channel name underneath one of their videos. 2. Click the About tab. 3. Click Send message. 4. Type in your private message and click Send. but anyway i typed up a little something above your comment

i was thinking the whole transmission would need rebuild or replaced but after seeing this video i think it just may be a clutch kit to get it driving normal again. im stationed overseas what would best place to order clutch kit online and do u think i could do it all in my driveway i do anticipate itll be hard work.

to add for your comment of why i liked/disliked. it would have been nice to see how it actually goes together, you filmed after putting back in and skipped that part.?...

Only thing you missing are the bolt sizes!! I’m looking for the size of all the bolts, that way I know what tools I need for the job!

Thanks! I'm considering picking up a 2012 Xterra 6-speed. I've done clutches on my cars in the driveway, not fun but do-able with enough beer and an engine hoist. Civic Si, Focus SVT and a GTI. I wonder how much the procedure has changed since the first gen.

I have a 2012 Xterra PRO 4X, the same as the Off Road model in the video. I am going to have a Nissan buddy of mine do it so it's the same as the video

I have a 2007 Nissan Frontier 6 speed 2wd with 165k miles. The throw out bearing whines when I press the clutch and is still cold. When it warms up it quits whining. Do u think I should Change clutch kit and flywheel even though it still works? Or just wait till it goes out? And would I still use the same process? Thanks

Martin Ollis I went 100,000 miles with the whine. Only thing though is it will fail at some point and you will be stuck

Do the flying disc have to be replace at the same time the clutch is change ?
@octaneautotips5799
@octaneautotips5799 9 лет назад
If it's a single mass flywheel, you don't have to replace it, just have it resurfaced at your local machine shop. If it's a dual mass flywheel, as it was in this case, I would recommend replacing it, to ensure no chatter or vibration from the new clutch kit.

My xterra some times shakes when I start first gear and I can hear a knocking sound when is in neutral.

How Many Hours Did It Take. Thanks
@octaneautotips5799
@octaneautotips5799 10 лет назад
Including the flywheel replacement, it's an 8-10 hour job...if it was a 4x2, that would have cut the labor time by about 30%.
@keltalon
@keltalon 10 лет назад
OctaneAutoTips so a 4x2 would take about 5 to 6 hours right? I have to change mine and it's a 4x2. Thanks
