I was able to successfully replace the head gasket on my 07 civic because of your videos. You have helped me save a bunch of money that would otherwise have come from our holiday funds. Thank you very much.

Thanks for the great vid, very helpful. One thing, just in case anyone wants to know, replace the drive belt before the motor mount to save a little hassle. BTW, thanks for pointing out the two timing chain cover bolts that are different than the others, make sure to put those on first, they align the cover.

Don't do what I did and forget that little partition plate in the block, you may not even take it out but if you do DON"T forget it. It makes the coolant flow evenly through the head by creating a restriction.

Good job, although I would have included torque specs, the tensioner bolt is 40 ft/lbs, use a new Honda 10x55 bolt, (not 10x59) and blue thread lock...read the TSB. i'll post more later

@vernonbosshard9317 Год назад
@@jaketomberlin8916 The part number is Honda 96700-10055-18, for the serp belt tensioner bolt. 10mm x 55mm. Honda had issues with this bolt coming loose. I went ahead and did the timing chain, pulled the oil pan and cleaned it out, almost an in block over haul. Check the motor mounts too, they also had issues. And of course the cracked blocks that were an issue. Honda has a TSB on that.

Used a carb cleaner on top of pistons. Careful not to get the cylinder walls. As far as everything else I didn’t clean it other than oil change. I used assembly line on the cam lobs, anywhere there’s contact points but I did prime the engine before starting it. That’s very important to do.

I don't think you're supposed to be oiling up those bolts. That's going to make your torque wrench inaccurate (tho it looks like you may have used degrees rather than a torque wrench so the above comment probably doesn't apply, other than to say I don't think it's necessary)

Hey Bro! Thank you for this video. I made a comment a year ago that I was able to successfully replace the head gasket! I was hoping you could point me in the right direction on my current issue. Crank - No start - No error code. Leading up to this I received some cylinder 2 misfire at startup. I would turn off the vehicle and restart and would not have any issues. I have compression, ignition and gas. I replaced the cylinder 2 spark plug and ignition coil. (I also replaced the MAF sensor. I cleaned that at one point, and it seemed to improve the misfires) Any advice in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks again. You already helped me get another year out of my vehicle and I'm hoping you can do it again!

I’m re reading this and didn’t realize you stated the car wasn’t starting. Do you see a flashing key on the dash (possible key issue which is possible) also where did you get the maF sensor.? A lot of times working at a Honda dealer. if we suspected MAF sensor we would unplug it and the car would start as soon as we turned the key. Let me know.
@laketownautorepair336
@laketownautorepair336 7 месяцев назад
Consider also did you change all the spark plugs ? Or just one? What brand did you use? Some good quality NGK plugs should be used. With ignition coils always use a good brand also. NGK, Denso and Bosch are decent. There is a lot of bad cheap Amazon/ebay parts floating around. Sometimes there are parts that look very similar to OEM but they aren’t. I just talked to my buddy who is still a Honda tech and he also said there is so many counterfeit parts he’s had to change out that look very similar to OEM.

Is there anyway to narrow it down to head gasket or cracked block? I have coolant in the oil, but no oil in the coolant, and it runs great except for when the coolant goes down and it then overheats.
@laketownautorepair336

Only real way would be a leak down test. But sounds like for sure it could be a head gasket. I know the cracked blocks usually happen in the same 4 locations.
