Well done. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. I will be starting this same project on an '07 Civic w/ 260k miles next weekend. Doing some homework. I had a very similar problem diagnosing the head gasket. Started with misfires on 2 and 3. Started the process: IE plugs, coils, fuel injectors (fixed miss fire on 2). Checked cyl pressure, they were all within spec, but 3 was about 12 psi lower than the others. No steam out of the pipe, no milky oil. Decided to take it to a local shop. It sat in line for 2.5 months before they looked at it. They insisted it was not a head gasket, and just did a valve adjustment (left them very sloppy). I asked if they did a leakdown check and they said there was no reason for it. Still misfiring, so I tried a radiator gas detector with no joy, but noticed the bubbles while the engine runs. So I am convinced it is a head gasket, and after my experience with the local mechanics, I am just going to take the time to do it myself. All that to say, thanks for getting this video on here. I believe it will be a helpful reference.

Thanks for the comment and the support. That's a shame but if you got bubbles then you likely have a head gasket leak. I wouldn't order an OEM head gasket from Honda. Get one from NAPA it's thicker and nicer 😉

Well done. I figured you saved yourself some big bucks. I'm surprised that a head gasket went at 60K. 2012 Honda civic has 285K on her. Best car I've ever owned. I heard that some Honda civic 2006-2009 had casting problems in the block? Hair-line cracks, leaking coolant ?

There was a recall on the blocks from 06-09 because of the block cracking and leaking antifreeze in the front of the block behind the catalytic converter

Nice work, can you clarify the leak test. You pressurize the cylinder and look for bubbles in the coolant? How did you pressurize the cylinder?
@hendersonequipment
@hendersonequipment 11 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching! Yes I pressurized the cylinders when they were top dead center(TDC) and used this kit to apply air pressure to the cylinders. By doing this I could see the air bubbles show in the coolant. Hope this helps! 😁 www.amazon.com/Cylinder-Gasoline-Compression-Leakdown-Extension/dp/B0B3XQGHDX/ref=asc_df_B0B3XQGHDX/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=598354951676&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12756664586248751868&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9003300&hvtargid=pla-1730280463840&psc=1

Just checking in to see how the car is doing? I'm building up the courage to change my head gasket on my civic with 276k miles. Did you do any prep work on the block or the head (sanding, machine shop, etc)? Would you recommend I replace the timing chain and tensioner?
@hendersonequipment
@hendersonequipment 8 месяцев назад
Still running stock. I service that car regularly. I would check the block and the head with a straight edge to see if the head is warped. If it haven’t been overheated than your likely just fine. At that mileage I would change the chain and the tensioner while your there. You should get 500k out of that engine. Thanks for watching!

@@hendersonequipment looks like exhaust I can't see exactly where coming from but I know from manifold area car is driving all OK just getting smoke from there I haven't had the car long when I bought it the whole engine was covered in oil (bought at a auction unseen) and leaking from rocker and the head and burning smells now I have done the head there is no more leakes apart from the smoke I'm getting from manifold and no more burning smell.

My moms car overheated. We replaced the radiator but now the car doesn’t turn on. It turns over and cranks but no start. Would that be a bad head?
@hendersonequipment
@hendersonequipment 10 месяцев назад
Why did you replace the radiator. How long was it running for when it overheated?
@miguelcruz4658
@miguelcruz4658 10 месяцев назад
@@hendersonequipment because it was leaking from the top part. Where the plastic meets the metal part of the radiator. Not sure since my mom was driving it alone. But now it just turns over and a lot of bubbles in the coolant reservoir. Also it keeps leaking from the top left hose of the radiator. Almost as if it has too much pressure
@hendersonequipment
@hendersonequipment 10 месяцев назад
@@miguelcruz4658 It sounds like you have too much pressure in the system from either a cracked head or a blown gasket. If it got too hot the head could have warped too. I would bring it to a local machine shop and let them evaluate it

Thanks for reaching out! Your key lost its communications to the car and it went into immobilization mode. Do you have a spare key for it? If the spare key doesn’t work you’ll need to buy a new communication board for it. Good luck!
