+Susie Stewart you can replace the part as shown in the video without supporting the engine. The mount you are replacing does not hold the engine up. It helps resist the motion of the engine rocking backwards and forwards as the gas pedal is depressed. The mount directly underneath the one replaced in the video does require additional support to replaced it. Happy Motoring!
I bought this part at Auto parts warehouse last week for $22.00, and I just installed right now. I needed a breaker bar to get the 18 mm sockets off, but I sprayed WD 40 in advance on the bolts, but I got confused which side is the right side to mount because there is no real distinction, so I noticed the top of the torque mount has a longer piece of metal on it that goes on the top not the bottom according to this video. I have worked or cars a lot past 20 years here and there, and I notices with a half inch wrench the bolts did not want to come off easily, so I think they bolts should be tight, but I don't know the foot pounds would be nice took 5 minutes and no lifting the engine thank God Good luck all you tubers.
Thanks for letting me know how your job went! Glad this video was able to help! I will be sure to update the video description and add a torque spec! Happy Motoring!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I was told i needed to get them all replaced, but it's only the top one that's broken, so now I can do it myself (and save a few hundred $)
thank you for this one, 2nd video, the 1st one the guy was not behaving with the video, and didn't show anything, you were very explicit in your explanation and simple and direct. appreciate it.
Thanks for the great video! Do you have to jack the car under the oil pan ? Or can you do it without on a flat road surface? I'm planning on repairing this for my sister next week.
Had a Menikie shop just quote me $334 for the top and bottom mount I brought it in because I thought it was something with the front end or axle. I timed you from start to finish. About 3 Minutes 13 seconds WTF Menikie. Its going to take me longer to set up the jack and get my tools out than to fix both mounts All the parts on Amazon $54. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THE VIDEO!!
Don’t get to upset with the shop! If we were to do this job we would charge roughly the same price as them. We can’t buy our parts from online and have lots of overhead as shop owners. The reason I make these videos is for people looking to save money! :) I am glad it helped! I just didn’t want you getting too mad at the shop! We are mobile techs we have a site fee and a minimum labor fee. So it would have been 220 for travel time and labor and then the cost of the part from Worldpac or Carquest. I just wanted to mention that
@@Revitauto Hello and Thank You for that quick reply! I totally get that a shop has overhead and lots of other fees. I just thought the price was high considering the time it takes to do the job. I understand the shops go by a hourly book some jobs more time some less I get it. But between the 2 videos I saw this looks like a fairly easy job compared to most . Minus the part( lets say from Napa. ) I still think it was on the high side. If the shop qouted me say $150 labor I would have just given them the job. I sincerely thank you for your video and quick reply. Take Care. Greg. Lol and no I'm not made at the shop.
Wow that’s amazing! Thank you so much! I desperately need to change mine because the engine shakes sooo much! Was shown by a salesperson that it’s easy!
Shalom (peace) hey on tha old part there was a round piece on tha front i believe called a mount damper, what is that for cause mine just broke off? Plus i noticed on tha new part you replaced it with didn't have it.
Update: job went great, the slotted hole end, was stubborn to line up , perfect to get some threads. That was my only grievance! , oh , & a heat blister on left finger , not waiting long enough to let engine cool! U bet I subscribed!!
Was looking in my engine and seen the top passenger side engine mount was broken. This seems easy enough only 2 bolts. I assume that this top engine mount just stabilizes the engine when it accelerates and does not hold much weight. I think this might fix my excessive vibration problem in my versa when I accelerate, thanks.
There are two of these. This one, on top and easy to swap, is one. The second one is on the bottom of the engine. I decided to just replace the top , easy, one & skip the lower one, underneath the engine that is difficult to remove. Well, my new upper one did not live 8 months when it tore. If you are considering this, take it to an Asian car shop where they can replace both. Peace.
@@juankroosfrausto7411 usually the lower one wears before the top and that puts all the torque on the top meaning that if your top is bad you can almost guarantee the lower is also bad.
I like your video. My car has the same exact broken mount. I have the part. Your video doesn't show or specify if I need to jack up the car and have a wood block under the engine. Do I need to do that? Or can I just do it the way your video shows?
Did your part come with the counter weight? Mine came with one and a jam nut, which came loose within a week. I found it roadside and replaced it using thread lock and jam nut. It has stayed in place long enough for me to have to do the job again. The first replacement lasted four years. Good video.
If you are talking about the nub of rubber and a threaded rod, mine did not. And I do not know the purpose of it. That's cool you were able to find yours! I thought maybe it was for alignment of the bushings while pressing them in.
I just spent a couple of hundred dollars and 7 hours at a garage trying to figure out what was causing a rattling noise when going over rough road (which in New York City is 90% of all road). Of course...after replacing sway arms, strut mounts, doing the brakes because why not while you're in there...we realized it was after cracked motor mount. jeez I wish I saw this video before this morning.
Hi Deej, I am sorry to hear about your added expense and time spent on your car. It can be challenging to locate a noise in your car. Next time, ask a the shop that you are taking your car too if they have "Chasis Ears" It is a device that has sensors that act as listen devices, you can place them in various locations and test drive the vehicle to find the approximate area of the noise and diagnose from there. Happy Motoring!
+RevitAuto thanks! I'm wondering if the shop I went to is not quite up to par...it's been difficult to do anything since I've moved to NYC and had to keep my car on the street.
I definitely need to replace the torque mount. But I'm wondering if the issue I'm currently having is a result of the worn out mount. Currently, my car's engine shakes when idling in drive or when I take off from idling at a light. In neutral, the shaking is less apparent. My question to you is, is this a result from the torque mount?
Hey Omar, it could be a bunch of things that are occurring it is really important to have all your mounts checked, if one fails it puts more stress on the others to do the work! It is possible that you have multiple mounts that are in failure.
Awesome... car failed inspection for this part. Shop quoted me $174 to fix it... got the part for $17 and outside of it being in the teens outside.... EASY fix.
thanks for the video, the bolts on my car are 17mm. my breaker is a small one. is there any suggestion you can give me on how to loosen the bolt? is it easier to loosen it when the engine is cold ?
Hi Aria, make sure that you are trying to turn the bolt counter clockwise.(to the left). Removing car parts is all about leverage. You can use a pipe to go over the breaker bar to help you. It is possible that the bolt will pull threads off as it is removed. This is extremely rare, most of the time it takes a good amount of force to break loose and comes off easily after. Please keep us posted on your success. Happy Motoring!!
+Juan Ramirez we do not have a video directly showing how to replace the motor mount. On a crashed drive there is a video on how to replace the serpentine belt which requires removing the engine mount. Once we have that video live I will send you a message. There is no current time estimate.
at 313 you're putting bolt back on. my bolt goes in and i can screw it all the way down, but i cannot get it to tighten up...it just keeps turning. do i need new bolt? thanks for your thoughts!!
You do not need to jack the engine up to complete this repair! Jump right into it! The motor mount below the mount replaced in this video does require engine supporting and adjustment.
I just got a Nissan Versa 2012, and I was told by dealer $300.00, but I can replace myself if don't have to lift or support motor except comment below stated don't have to support motor what about when replacing top motor mount not torque motor mount.
That's exactly what I mean. I have worked on cars a lot and registered for fall 2018 automotive, so I look forward to changing the part and saving some money thank you.
+Jeff Green Hi Jeff, can you please elaborate on your question? There is not a harmonic damper on the torque thrust mount. Are you referring to the small rubber bushing that is one the end of the original mount?
Hi Jeff, the part we had installed did not have that rubber piece. I have seen others come with it. I am not sure of its function and there is not a separate part number that I could find. It may be a portion to help aid in the assembly of the part during manufacturing. If I find anything out about it, I will be sure to share.
I just purchased a replacement torque thrust mount from AutoZone. It includes the part in question. Thanks so much for taking the time to create a really helpful video. And thanks for your responses to my questions. I appreciate you!
Anybody know what the purpose of that round rubber stopper toward the front of this part is for. his old one has it. The new does not even tho it has the threaded hole for it.
I think it acts as a counter weight during vibrations. That rubber part broke on mine and I was looking on changing it, but seeing that this new part doesn't have that rubber, I'm not sure it's necessary now 😅!
Hey! So happy to see you are going to tackle this job yourself! I suggest this tool kit here! www.harborfreight.com/mechanics-tool-set-301-pc-63464.html and also this breaker bar! www.harborfreight.com/12-in-drive-18-in-ratcheting-breaker-bar-67957.html Please let us know how it goes for you! Happy Motoring-Blair
Not directly no, motor mounts and engine and transmission efficiency are not directly related, you can cause physical damage to the other mounts and it could be a problem with drive line angles. But you most likely have other issues to address on top of the motor mount.
