Dan Dickerson's call of the walk off is one of the best calls in baseball history
@williamsnyder5616

Agree, Peter. The call by Thom Brennaman was a good one, but the one by Dickerson meant more, I think, to Tigers' fans who suffered through the detestable 2003 season, just three years earlier.

@@williamsnyder5616 And 19 years of misery before all that, no playoff appearances in that span. I was born a month after their last division title/playoff appearance in 1987. So this moment/that year was the first experience of a winning Tigers team. Will never forget it, even if they lost in the WS. Magical time to be a fan here.

I was in the barbershop this day...we we're all watching. I stood up from my chair in the ninth and said, "Maggs about to hit a homer." My barber turned the volume up full and Magglio CRUSHED it. The placed erupted it...just like the stadium. I grabbed my phone and called my dad who was watching it at home. Two years later...my dad passed away. For some reason, this is the only baseball moment we shared.

Same here my friend. I was 6 as well. Didn't know anything about the Tigers so I didn't understand. When that ball left the bat, my eyes welled up. Especially considering I had season tickets in 2003. Sucks we didn't win it all, but I will never get tired of seeing this jack shot.

It's probgably going to be about 3 or 4 years from now, but the good times are coming. The drafting of pitchers (Casey Mize, Matt Manning and Tarik Skubal) has been spectacular and all three are just about ready. Now, they are starting to concentrate on drafting hitters. It was Riley Greene and a few other guys last year and it'll be either Spencer Torkelson from Arizona St. or Austin Martin from Vanderbilt this year. But the misery they've been going throughsince 2014 should be over soon.

It’s not that they were better, Detroit has always had an amazing fan base. The difference was expectations.
