I have another question. My r radiator hose came loose while driving my vehicle. I didn't notice at the time that it was leaking and my arm check engine light came on so I turned my vehicle off then turned it back on tried to turn it back on but it wouldn't start but the radiator holds back on and my car's been having issues ever since because of that radiator hose coming off cuz that had something to do with my water pump malfunctioning?
@mliphart
@mliphart 2 года назад
It is possible that there is air in the system - providing that the water pump isn't leaking. I have found that with some vehicles - including this one - that after you fill it with water, you have to run the car for about 20 minutes with the radiator cap off - refilling as necessary - to get all of the air out of the system. If there is air in the system, the car will overheat.

Is there a torque spec for the bolts? Or is it a more snug to a little grunt to tighten? thanks for the vid, great vid

Should there be an interest for preventative maintenance concerns, my 06 300c had a water pump leak at 100K miles and it was 18 years old at that time. I heard of one being replaced at 16 years old with 190,000 on it.
@mliphart
@mliphart 2 года назад
No, this is one of those repairs that you will typically only do when needed - or if you have to disassemble the front of the engine for something else - then I would replace the water pump.
@JeffreyMillswa6cej
@JeffreyMillswa6cej 2 года назад
@@mliphart 2003 through 2009 Hemi motors can drop valve seats particularly if the engine has overheated generally due to leaking radiator as these cars now are almost 20 years old. Replace the plastic fans (blades) as they become brittle as they age, suddenly break, then go through the radiator. A car this old should get a new radiator as well. If you have the single fan setup check fan motor bearings. Look for the heater hose near the fire wall with a “Tee” fitting that goes to the water bottle, those crack over time and leak. Good to replace the Tstat with a 180 degree and if you can get a tuner to make the fans come on at a lower temperature. If you have one of these it’s best to fix it before it breaks as the “Hemi” is expensive to fix.

@@mliphart one more thing. The transmission in this car is a Mercedes unit and is very strong. However, learn about the conductor plate in the valve body, and the pink thingy in the shifter. Also Chang the starter relay. If the AC quits, change the replaceable valves in the AC service ports.
@mliphart

The bleeder screw on the front of mine is bone dry I hear a squeal when I cold start I’m guessing water pump being that it’s dry but what could be causing the pump to not get coolant in that area because the hose and rad have fluid in them but nothing in the front of the water pump housing, I’ve been having issues with it getting hot the. Cooling down getting hot then cooling Down originally had a leak and used k seal fixed the leak I think but then the overheating issues started, hasn’t overheated but it gets hotter than it’s supposed to I think I’ve seen it get up to as high as 242 then shoot back down to 195-197
@mliphart

These engines are very finicky. They get air trapped in them and will overheat until it is out. I start with plenty of water and Anti-Freeze, and with the reservoir cap off - start the car and let it idle - with the heater on high. At some point, the car will suck the water down - be prepared to refill it as it goes down - DON'T WAIT UNTIL IT ADDS MORE AIR INTO THE SYSTEM. I let this process go for about 45 minutes. It will bubble out both air and water - but keep it as full as you can. As long as you don't let air back into the system, you will be ok. I just had to do this to my wife's car. It got low enough on coolant that it got air into the system. It is an idiosyncrasy of some vehicles - this being one of them.

@@mliphart my friend has a 2011 300 and it's over heating and the motor chugs to a stop at every red light and stop sign. She had the thermostat and hoses replaced. I think it's the water pump. And I hope the chugging is just a dirty throttle body. Any thoughts?
@mliphart
@mliphart 2 года назад
@@chrisw7542 I'm not sure what you mean by "chugging" - but, if it's what I think it is - it could be caused by the engine being too hot. Other than that, I'm not sure - without seeing it. The water pump may be the issue with the overheating problem - fortunately, it is a fairly easy project.

How much coolant it takes to fill it up after replacing pump?
@mliphart
@mliphart 11 месяцев назад
The entire system takes about 14 quarts - but, the system isn't completely empty. I typically will put 1 gallon of the "concentrated" Anti-freeze, and the rest water. Depending on where you live, and how cold it gets - you want about a 50/50 mix.

I think my Chrysler 300 needs a water pump. What is the best way to determine if that's the issue without going to a mechanic?
@mliphart
@mliphart 2 года назад
Usually the best way to know if it's the water pump is to check if it is leaking water. There is typically a "weep hole" on the bottom side of the pump that starts to leak water. Are you leaking water?

I hear. I think mine has been pretty good. We bought it with 125,000 miles, and now it has around 188,000 miles - and other than the computer failure - most of the repairs on their car has been due to the amount of miles on it.
