I'm having a long cold start problem. I'm trying to pinpoint the problem before I start throwing money at it. I'm suspecting a high pressure oil leak somewhere. Truck is a 2006 F250 Powerstoke 6.0 If you found this video helpful or would like help fund future experiments. please donate below.

Ive been running rotella t6 5w40 for 5 years no issues in my 05 6.0L. Good mod... put a 6.4L starter on your 6.0L. They spin the engine over way faster then the 6.0L starter. You should be running 850 to 1000 cold cranking amps. 650 aint enough. My 6.0L starts in -25c without plugging it in. I normally plug it in and hate doin cold starts. But when i go up to camp well .... cant plug into a tree lol.

For anyone that is watching this video I have only seen one other person here state the obvious. THAT IS NOT A LONG CRANK! The truck took no more than 5 seconds to turn on from a cold start. THAT IS NORMAL FOR A 6.0 and not a long crank 👍

I had bad dummy plugs. My truck starts right away now.

Fintech Repair Shop That's great. This still isn't a cold crank long start issue. I work on these all the time and have owned two 6.0's. Your truck started in less than five seconds and there is nothing wrong with that. Thousands of proper running 6.0 diesels start like this. If you got it to start sooner then congratulations but a long start issue would be minimum 10 seconds or more of cranking. Most trucks take max five seconds when cold then fire right up when warm.

Could be the drainback valve in the bottom of the oil filter assy. Drains down overnight and has to refill when 1st start. Dummy plug failure wouldn't start when warm.

I would suggest a alternator check should be right on 13.5v when hot for sure
@connormcgovern1585

powerstroke 6L needs 750CCA batteries any lower you risk doing damage to the ficm over time
@stephensmall5696
@stephensmall5696 6 лет назад
One you have a weak alternator, i would say you have either a bad ipr valve or bad icp sensor if it's not that you could have a bad seal that's letting the oil back off the pump and its having to pump the oil to the pump before it can build hpop pressure which is creating a long crank, if it was dummy plugs it could create a no start hot or the ipr woukd be higher percent to compensate for a leak but run codes and see if there is any codes
@stephensmall5696
@stephensmall5696 6 лет назад
Or it could be glow plugs too
@stephensmall5696
@stephensmall5696 6 лет назад
Also I always let my fuel pump kick off before I start it too, that way you have your base fuel pressure at its max full of fuel

MAKE SURE THE OIL CAP ON THE FILTER IS THE SHORT ONE THAT IS MADE FOR THE MOTORCRAFT OEM FILTER. IT HAS TO PUSH DOWN THE DRAIN BACK VALVE TO KEEP OIL ALL THE TIME IN THE HOUSING WHEN SITTING OVERNIGHT OR LONG TIMES.

Real-time readings, move sideways to a blank spot, tap and hold and add display, select whichever way you want to see it. Before doing all that, got a littke ahead, from the home of the app, go to settings, settings, manage extra pids, tap it, then there will be 3 dotted line at the top right corner, tap, add predefine, select ford

Sounds like the oil pressure switch is going bad. A safeguard against the truck starting with no oil pressure.

You're probably running oil that's too thick you should be running a 5w40 full synthetic thats what I run. I was experiencing that problem with 15w40. Once I made the switch it was way better.
@fintechrepairshop
@fintechrepairshop 3 года назад
I've always run 5W-40W synthetic. Running conventional oil in a powerstoke 6.0 will murder injectors. Problem was leaking dummy plugs.
@gingerbreadman1113

There is a good way to leak test the high preassure oil system by removing the ICP sensor and pressureizing the high preassure oil system to check for leaks but there are a bunch of videos on youtube of that. Thought I could help 😁
