Not many cars today can command attention with their presence quite like the 2006 Ford GT. When you see one, your neck snaps. They look so epic in motion.
These things are a blast to drive! Although I never got to fully open one up out of fear, being a $150K automobile! Even as a Ford master technician they are a nerve racking mess to work on... just an oil change is an ordeal all by itself. You have to remove a bunch of plates and torx screws on the bottom of the vehicle. I believe it paid 1.5 hrs book time, when normal oil changes paid just .3 hr. They take so long to even hoist in the air! I had to replace one of the gauges once under warranty and you have to use multiple layers of tape so as not to scratch the dash up. And yes that was instructed to do so as per Ford workshop manual!
@@cedb7115 Of course, but to own and drive a GT for 10-15 years, and sell it with decent mileage for double or more of what you paid is pretty nice. I've looked casually at them a few times, and they've always stayed just a bit out of reach of what I could afford, despite accruing mileage and age.
@michaelgakanga how many cars from this era gain that much value? Of course you can make more in other areas. But the fact you could enjoy a badass car for 15+ years and sell it for double what you paid is insane. It's not just the money you also got 15 years of owning a badass car nobody ever factors that part in.
Best american car ever made? Dude... It was conceived, designed, built by Brits. Its about as "american" as socialised healthcare. Itse AMAZING how america still think they built this.
Because it wasnt designed, built or conceived by Ford. Thats why its a good car. If Ford built it themselves, they would probably have based it on some Ford Mondeo or something.

@@cargogh Right... Well if you read up on it. You will probably get into the american motor press articles where they hail this thing to the skies as an all-american supercar. A blue-collar hero out of Detroit Michigan to take on the world. Because thats how it was marketed and sold. They ASSEMBLED it in Dearborn Michigan so they could wave flags and sell it as an american product. But there isnt a single nut or bolt on the thing that can be traced back to an american manufacturer. Except the engine ofcourse. Which was lifted out of a Ford pickup truck. As I recall.... Its been a while, but... It had German wheels, Italian brakes, Steering rack and headlights out of a German Ford Focus, it had drivetrain out of an old Aston Martin, the gearing is a British Ricardo racing box. Pretty bulletproof. The chassis and handling was done by a couple of guys from Lotus. But, yeah... Its the same story with all the Ford GTs. The one from the 1960s, and the one from 2017 which is still being built. Ford never designed, conceived, built any of them. They were always built FOR Ford, never BY Ford. And its amazing how they still keep pretending they do.
@@cargogh Yeah Ive been around, you might say. For the new 2017 Ford GT, Ford tried to make it out of a Ford Mustang with the flat-p+lane crank V8 out of the Mustang 350 GT. But then they bought a Ferari 488 GT racecar to use as benchmark and realised there was nothing they could possibly do to this Mustang chassis to make it competitive. So again they called in the Brits. This time they tried their hardest to find a workshop in all of USA qualified to build the thing, but they had to go with a Canadian company. Multimatic. They have history with building racecars and special editions for Aston Martin. The Aston Martin ONe-77 was built by them. ASSEMBLED, sorry. Not built.
This generation of Ford GT in the video, has a better interior than any modern car I have ever seen. Simple but beautiful and the outside is just gorgeous. Nothing can touch it
I've owned a few Ford GTs, such amazing cars. Make sure all the recalls were carried out, they had a few, including the gearbox and the front suspension (Ford even wrote to owners saying they should not drive their cars until they had been rectified). Its crazy to think they stopped making it due to lack of orders. Ford sold the rights to the GT40 name to Safir Autoparts in 1999.. DOH
❤ my question is if you buy GT 40 and for whatever reason you don’t want it anymore what is your situation ? ❤. Do you have to bring it back to Ford? If you sell it back to Ford motor company, are you going to have to take a loss to sell it to them instead of selling it to somebody else ? Also, what happens if you crash the car for whatever reason what happens then ?
The 93 and up Ford Probe were modeled after the GT and they were great cars that I don’t understand why they discontinued. Owned 3 Probe GT’s from 93 on and loved them all. Great power from the 2.5L V6 that would kill fox body stock GT Mustang’s top end.
A Ford probe wouldn't touch a fox gt stock for stock in any measurement 0-60, quarter mile or top speed. They were cool cars and kind of underrated but they absolutely didn't kill mustang gts in anything including top end. Yea they made more of their power at the top of the tach vs the 5.0 pushrod if that's what you're saying.
@@midnight347 i’m betting you were born somewhere in the late 90’s early 2000’s. You don’t know how badly they choked the 5.0’s in the Fox Body because they wanted them to have bottom end power, burnouts and such.

The engine has 0 in common with the lightning motor other than displacement and they're both supercharged. They don't have the same blower the gt is an all aluminum 4v the lightning is an iron block 2v. Totally different engines.
It's quick but it is not what many people want it to be. Seen so many of these butchered to a supra level. I have yet to see a build where there owner worked on both engine and the chassis.
The amount of patriotism and pride in this car... Why does NOBODY mention that it was 100% designed, conceived and built by Brits? On a shoestring budget. Using bits and pieces out of Aston Martins, Jaguars, the steering rack, headlights, and other bits out of a German Ford Focus. Just about the ONLY american part on this car is the Ford F150 pickup truck engine. That does 12 mpg.
I don’t even know where to begin on how inaccurate this information is... -Designed by Camilo Pardo and overseen by J Mays both Americans. Carrol Shelby was also involved. -most of the car was built and designed in America mostly in Ohio and Michigan. -headlights are completely unique other than the fog lamps which were carried over from the Mercury Marauder (another purely American designed car) -I’ll give you the transmission, being from a British company and brakes were Brembo which is Italian -Macintosh sound system, another American company And I could go on. I worked on these cars when they were still covered under warranty as a Ford Master Technician and I can assure you that most of the parts we used were in fact genuine FoMoCo parts. And were definitely NOT British. Back then Ford also owned large portions in Aston Martin, Jaguar, Volvo, Mazda, and Land Rover and many of those vehicles used many Ford parts during that time period. But Ford has since sold off most of those other brands to focus on just Ford, Lincoln, and now defunct Mercury.

Just like Hennessey Venom GT which was built by Delta Motorsport in England with a Corvette engine put on it. I mean... Doesnt it ever get silly? Hennesseys new car is out now. Its also 100% built in Britain. Just like the 2017 Ford GT. Why is this so difficult? Mcintosh sound system... Wow. Really? Did you have to go to the stereo to find an american part supplier?
