Wow I'm impressed; I thought you had to drop the K-frame to get to the motor/trans. You made it look so easy. Last time I did this I lifted the front end with a front-end-loader (never do that again; was too dangerous). I swore I would buy a lift before I do another FWD car.
How did you get the torque converter bolts limed up when installing? Have an 2016 only access is through the starter mount area so extremely small area and having a difficult time getting the four bolts back in no way to turn the flex plate other than crankshaft nut. Then try to line up but even trying to get the torque converter lined up after motor is in place seems the flex plate isnt lining up and you cant turn the torque converter itself behind the flex plate once the motor is all the way in Help cry😢
When installing the motor you want to try to make sure you have one of the torque converter holes lined up with the starter opening. You should be able to spin the flywheel to the torque converter hole. Install one bolt but don't tighten it all the way , then you should be able to spin the flywheel around to install the remaining bolts. Hope this helps.👍
1st off you want a good assortment of tools. Socket set, wenches, screwdrivers. Most specialty tools can be rented at most auto parts stores. You'll also need a lift which also can be rented at most tool rental stores.
I’m about to do this to my mother in laws impala this weekend. Isn’t a problem as I’ve done a few motor swaps before but was you able to unbolt the ac compressor from the block and just lay it aside instead of removing and having to recharge ?
I want to do an engine swap on my 08 3.5 impala to an ss. Is there any computer issues Or upgrades I need to worry about or should the stock computer be fine
Robert you would probably be better off looking for a wrecked ss to get everything needed for the swap. Computer, wire harness and possibly engine mounts would be different. Good luck.👍
Really can't remember the total count on bolts. I know they're all accessible from the driver side except for one that you actually have to go through the passenger side wheel well. I'm pretty sure I covered how to get to that one in the video.
It's been a while but I think I left it connected as i jacked up the motor. I unplugged it when the motor was halfway out. Just remember to plug it back in before you get the motor sit back in. Good luck.
Sounds like you might still have a bell housing bolt still attached. Double check to make sure you got them all. If I remember l think there's one you have to access from the passenger side, if you follow the CV shaft it sets right above it. Hope this helps.
@@jtrueff2771 yes you'll need to remove the passenger side tire to get access to the bolt. Follow the CV shaft to the transmission you should see the bolt above it.
Can't find it , I removed 5 bell housing bolts do you recall if there's any more then 5 , having trouble finding the bolt you referred to following the cv shaft 🤦🏽♂️
Can't remember exactly but I'm thinking 6. You can get all but one on the driver's side. The other one is located above where the passenger side cv shaft goes into the transmission. You have to use a lot of extensions and get it out from the passenger side. Hope this helps.
Anything is possible with time and money. The easiest route maybe to buy a ss or find one that's been wrecked and transfer everything needed to yours. Good luck.
I’m going to 5.3 ls4 swap my 3.9 08 impala you’ll need a ls4 with the transmission and hopefully with the Wiring harness with it. You’ll also need the ls4 Subframe unless you can custom weld engine mount spots on it. Yes it’s probably cheaper to but a SS but if you like working on cars and if you love your impala it’s worth the effort
