You Sir, are my hero! Just wish my son could have found your video prior to 3 days of head scratching and $200 in parts on a 2005 Liberty Renegade! Turns out about 35 cents worth of butt connector and wire did trick. You are THE MAN!
I watched 6 different videos, one over 45 minutes and this is hands down, the best one. Even if this isn’t the issue with my Jeep, great video. Thank you.
You sir are the man this video turned my 5 hour starter replacement into a 5 minute ground cleaning don't even bother replacing the wires that's all it needs starts like a charm at 170k miles in Northern Illinois
Thank you as well!!! Two days battling with the starter and so many wires and then I accidently grounded the wrong relay wire and blew a couple fuses but when I rerouted the correct ground wire from that relay like he showed in the video the jeep started right up!!! Thank you thank you!!!
THANK YOU i cleaned the ground beside the battery on fender and so far working good Cleaned both sides of washer with wire brush, cleaned bolt, cleaned fender attachment area
Thank God somebody finally stated where the ground was that they cleaned for this particular fuse box and relay. I've been asking all over the comments. Do you happen to own a Cherokee or a Commander?
Thank you! Thank you! Thank your!!! Had the exact same issue on my '07 for months now and this fixed the problem. Took me 1 hr. by simply jumping a new ground from the relay as you have shown. Was about to change out the ignition switch. Thanks YOU!!
I went through and tested everything you did and when I tested that ground wire that was the problem...I spliced a new ground wire to a known good ground connection on the car...it started right up. Thanks bro! Saved me time and money.
Man… I have an appointment at the dealer to fix my intermittent click, no start problem on my Jeep Commander. I had already changed the starter. Then had the same problem. They were going to charge me $180 diagnostic… The service guy already speculated, “if you have already changed the starter, and the fuses and relays are fine, it might be the ECM or a problem with the Power Control Distribution Center.” I’m guessing I wouldn’t have gotten out of there for under $750. Thanks. Great work… and really good video!
You absolutely are the man, I love this platform and appreciate the people that take time to help out others that can't afford a $1000 to have your vehicle serviced.
2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and this video saved me a ton of cash and time! I didn't have to cut any wires to ground it, but this put me on the track to fix a loose wire and worked like a charm!
Good job Cliff! Those leads and contacts under the fuse/relay box, are the problem with mine. Again, no ground, but the contact on the end of the ground wire was corroded, and not making a good electrical connection. Now it cranks, but doesn’t yet start, I suspect that there are other problems of the same type in that wiring of the box.
Outstanding brother. I did it and the results are perfect. Just wish I would have found this video before I purchased and changed the starter. It worked on my 2006 Jeep Commander. Again THNX. Mac
Mobile mechanic had relay no start on 2009 jeep cherokee same issue relay was in different place but I traced the yellow wire from starter solenoid up to fuse box relay tested all the circuit found hot wire was not getting power to relay thanks for your video i was stump to what was wrong found it my client is happy.
Bro thank you you said yourself you were in a rush however thanks for making that video I have the same issue one night I try to turn key over and just clicks I'm like wtf was just working. Ended up working again until a few days later same thing. I'm gonna do as you did and will reply with the conclusion.
Thank you so much for this video, extremely helpful. I truly appreciate your willingness to take the time and make a video solely to help other people out with there own repairs. Thank you kind Sir!
Thank u for this video if it wasn’t for me and my dad my brother would of spent alot of money on his jeep love the video! Hope it goes to more audiences that need this video 👍👍👍
I was having the same exact problem on my 2009 Jeep Commander and it was the wires underneath the ones closest to the driver side it was a yellow wire I think it was part of the wiring harness good. But I cleaned it really good and all that and now it works just fine, and it did it multiple times like I probably had it happen to me 15 times
Just check, clean and improve all chassis grounds relating to those areas. Should solve the problem for anyone viewing this. I do this on any older vehicle of mine. Battery to chassis, chassis to engine, ending to frame, engine to chassis, always check, clean, tighten those grounds. Or replace the wiring if they are suspect. Same on ANY motor vehicle, motorcycle, atv, ANYTHING.
I have the twin to this Jeep, It even has the same air freshener on the same vent. Had to have it towed home the other day with the same problem that has been a off and on problem for a couple years now. Can't trust the old girl! I was planning to change the starter when time permits but now I'm going to test as you did. Thanks for the tip! It all makes sense now! Stand by for an update..........
My 2008 Commander just did the same thing this past weekend. It worked fine in the morning then went to start it in the afternoon and just got clicking sound. I was going to make plans to repair it but will check the relay first. I have good voltage on my battery also.
Hey I have a 2007 jeep Laredo grand Cherokee. I just did this and it worked perfectly. People was telling me it was the starter but it wasn't. So thanks alot for this video it saved me 150 dollars. But I was wondering if I can continue to drive it like this
Thank you to help, this video was really good for me, please could you to do a heat transmission video when pull a trailer; I have big problem. Thanks in advance.
Hello, there is one shortcut path here, the (-) on the relay electromagnet is not always conected with GND, this signal is comming from powertrain control module, so your solution will work but you can also run the starter in cases when normaly you can't do this, i.e. in case enginee is running already.
you probably dont give a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can watch all the latest movies and series on Instaflixxer. Been streaming with my brother lately xD
Okay this is my problem, but I really need help. I disassembled the fuse box to get to the spark plugs and put everything back together and now my cars not starting saying service 4wd and service electric brake system. It’s not even turning over. So I think it’s the ground like you mentioned but it’s hookup up. :/
So I'm not getting a click from the starter relay and I replaced it and ran a ground from the starter relay to the driveline federally like you did and I get nothing from the relay and yes I did get a new battery. Removed the starter and tested it which it passed and also put a new female on the Yellow wire nothing any recommendations?
Please help. I have 12 v in the second hole to the starter... ground is good 12v. Even the one to the ignition is good. But the first hole where u said it's always hot I'm not getting anything what could I do there? Would it be the red wire that connects to the starter because the wire under the relay hole is red.
My issue was a small Clip/ spade connector which was loose attached to the starter , I had those exact symptoms. It was not the ignition switch , it was not a ground issue at the relay box .
im prayin its the ground wire because i just bought a starter relay yesterday then it worked i came in the house came back out and it wouldnt start again man im sooo pissed 😤
Had a feeling it was the ground.. my friend is having the same problem with their 98.. i keep telling them the ground or positive cables.. need cleaning or traced and cleaned.. or reppaced.. but they just keep cleaning the battery terminals.. but not the other ones
My Jeep will start when its been sitting for at least a few hours then it doesn't start after I drive it around and turn it off. Is that issue you had?
I'm having that same issue in my 1996 ZG grand cherokee Laredo. Turn the key, dash lights come on and everything as it should then when I go to crank it over the starter relay clicks but nothing else happens so ill have to buy a multimeter and try this out.
This was not my problem however I didn’t have the best ground at the relay so i did leave this trick on my Jeep. Turned out I did have a bad ground but was at the starter the bolt was loose. However I did end up replacing the starter because it was a pain in the you know what to change so I put in a new one. Still this helped a lot thank You.
I tested the negative and it read full 12.85V Edit : the problem was the negative connector to the starter was loose at the starter i clipped it with pliers and no more problem
@@melvingarcia2992 and you don't need to get on here confusing people the yellow wire is what everybody else is talking about on the starter. If you watch his video and follow along you can see him pointing at the green and pink meaning that it's both colors not two different wires the green and pink wire is the ground wire that goes to relay number 33 that you have to give a good ground if you want to bypass finding the ground that goes to that particular relay box and just clean it but both solutions work. The freaking yellow wire goes to the starter and that's same issue but not what he's talkin about and that's a completely different area to check if you're having the same clicking problem he was trying to show you what to do in case you check that yellow wire going to the starter if it's not the issue then it's the pink and green wire going to the bottom of relay number 33 don't get on here confuse people Jesus Christ
I just put front struts and upper arm and wheels back on and the 2006 Jeep-Grand Cherokee will not even light up the interior lights, dead as a door nail. 12volts on the battery not sure about amps.
I'm having this issue and I just replaced the starter and it didn't solve my problem. This fix doesn't make sense though. If the relay clicks, then you have ground on pin 85 of the relay, and power from the ignition on pin 86. When those are activated, the relay closes the path between 30 (source power) and 87 (output). 87 of this relay goes to the spade connector on the starter. The thing about this fix is, all you did was connect pin 85 to ground, but if it was a good enough of a ground to click before the fix, then it was a strong enough ground... I'm not saying that Chrysler doesn't have terrible grounds all over the car, because they do. I just can't make sense of this fix. A relay doesn't click but not work unless it's broken...
