Total solar eclipse as viewed from Jalu, Libya. A ground view shows the surrounding area growing dark as an inset view shows the eclipsed sun. The video spans 7 minutes, starting about 3 minutes before totality. Dave & Jean Kodama
wow those people were obnoxious, but this was by far the best eclipse video i've seen. shows the ground and sky at the same time, exactly what I wanted to see .
Glad you liked the video. Here's another one with both ground and eclipse views: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jLCEPbxVxds.html -- 2010 Easter Island Keep the sound off if you don't care to hear the crowd. At the 2017 eclipse, if you tend to be annoyed by your neighbors' cheering, be sure to go off to an isolated area! Some info on selecting a viewing site: www.astrocamera.net/2017/0821/index.htm
Yes, I fall into that category, but I've only been to 6 eclipses, which is a small number compared to the truly fanatic ones. I'm going to start out in Jackson, WY, prepared to move either east or west depending on weather, smoke, traffic, etc.
Warfighter Eternal humans have emotions.. Like your emotion of annoyance that you clearly displayed here in the comments . they were amazing and acted accordingly. You seem ignorant af
Some people are obnoxious loudmouths and they're like that all the time. The irony is that many of them tend to think quiet people are being rude. These are the same people who don't understand why they shouldn't bring their babies with them to a movie theater.
SongBird I live in the country about 40 min south west of St. Louis and the eclipse will go right over where I am. I won't have to drive anywhere to watch it with a bunch of annoying people. You know a lot of people are gonna act like idiots, crying and shit, hugging their family.. I'll be over here posted up with a cooler full of beer and a blunt.
After waiting for August 21, 2017 for 13 years, then actually standing under the shadow, every video like this makes me emotional. It really is quite the experience.
I lowkey was kinda scared to watch this video, all my teachers say you can go blind looking at it and they even said if you're still watching it through a phone
Right in the path this year... think I'll go to a secluded country road with a LOT of flat clearing. Already planning my various vantage points so I can have options, and will monitor the weather days in advance to find out if I need to rethink my strategies...
ProudiPhoneOwner not me, I'm leaving the Bay area and going to Boise, ID. Actually I will be in the town in Weiser. It will get just as dark as this video.
Ian Kane I'm in Arizona we will only get 65% of 2017 which means we won't notice much of a difference at all, but 2024 is supposed to pass over here so I'm excited
2026 - Europe 2027 - Europe 2081 - Europe 2090 - Europe 2135 - Europe 2142 - Europe 2151 - Europe 2227 - Europe 2381 - Europe 2433 - Europe 2726 - Europe 2808 - Europe 2817 - Europe 2974 - Europe ...and so on...
I had no idea that there was going to be a place on earth where it would be dark for four minutes due to the eclipse. This was the place to be from my many viewpoints uploaded to youtube.
CARBONDALE, IL, ON AUGUST 21, 2017 - YOU WILL BE IN THE CROSSHAIRS OF WHAT HAPPENED WHEN TOTAL DARKNESS HAPPENED AT THE 3:00 MARK IN THE MIDDLE EAST WHEN THE TOTAL ECLIPSE HAPPENED. IT WILL BE VERY CLOSE TO WHAT HAPPENED IN LIBYA 6 YEARS PRIOR! VERY REALLY!!!
Totality, the darkness is when it enters umbra. In optics, penumbra is part of the shadow that object partly covers light source in and it a blured part of shadow which for observer in the eclipse is seen as partial eclipse, umbra is part of shadow where object covers entire light source and prevents all the light coming to surface directly (because you still got light reflected from other places, like lit up atmosphere haze in distance aka 360 sunset) creating total darkness,in case of eclipse that is totality. In 3D space umbra is in shape of cone shrinking where penumbra is in shape of trapez spreading out, because moon is too far away, umbra is very small while penumbra covers entire hemisphere of earth and yes that means if you see partial eclipse technically you already in shadow of moon because at location you are you not getting 100% of sun light anymore, ofcorse because sun is super bright it makes not much difference until you it covered something over 60% you start to feel difference in light and it visibly dim over 95%. In case of lunar eclipse earth is a lot bigger then moon and earth umbra can cover entire moon, so observers on moon can usally see solar eclipse totality 2 times per year when ever they are on bright side of full moon.
totality is something to behold so until u have experienced it and some will on August 21 2017 it will have crossed coast to coast first time since 1918 99 yrs ago and u will see it again in the Midwest April 8 2024 if you can drive to it and see it either in Nashville Tennessee or Cairo Illinois it's quite a show
You'll see a partial eclipse in 2017 if you stay in Las Vegas. In general you need to move yourself somewhere to see a total eclipse. On average a given place on earth will see a total eclipse every few hundred years so it's very likely you'll never see one in your life if you don't actually make an effort to go and see one.
Am I the only person who's here just because I wanted to see what the eclipse tomorrow will look like??? lol No? Ok....This is pretty cool, though, I can't wait!
10,000 years ago: WTF! What's happening?! Omf! This is the end, everybody run and hide!! Today: ooohh... Woahhhh... Woooowww.. ahhhh Me: wow it's already dark, I slept through the entire day.
onenarrowdoor I was lucky for a cloud break during totality in 1999, I was stood on a hill in Helston in Cornwall which was the dead centre of the moons shadown. Best experience ever! Fingers crossed for Friday...
Special! Even if there is thick black cloud I shall be having two cameras set up, waiting for a break such as you got - you never know with the weather.
I forgot to buy my hotel ticket in time now the prices are way High and I'm forced to stay at my mother's place which is close to Boise my plan now is to spend 3 days in Reno and then hit to Idaho on the 20th . On the 21st I'll see the rest of you in Weiser,ID.
Já vi um desses no há alguns anos,e por mais que fique escuro,se nota no horizonte a Luz iluminando aos redores,é mais parecido com o pôr do Sol no momento em que ele desceu ao horizonte.
Finally I get to see how dark it gets not just the moon covering the sun. I don't are about the moon going over the sun I just wanted to see the sky and everywhere around to see how dark it is.
Im kind acrying :') I was there when I was about 8? And My dad and mum had a pram to hold me and my brother in. We didn't know what happened There. I remember that dad would say "Isn't it end of the world XD?" (I'm not an libyan person tho we were on holiday) Since I found out that the next solar eclipse is going to be on march 20th 2015 Its going to be so far 3 times I've watched solar eclipse. Most people say that is a lucky range!! Haha :)) Dave thnak you for sharing I've experienced the 1999 Solar eclipse But I was small so didn't get to much watch :/ ;-; Thank you again! Hugs from Uk!
ShadowBloomingVeronika Thanks for your note! I'm glad to hear the video brought back memories for you. That's the main reason why I like to photograph these types of events. It "refreshes" my memories, triggering memories of things which weren't even on the video itself. Best wishes for clear skies and another memorable experience!
Thank you :)! Best wishes. One question, Are you going to film any In the great britain Or anywhere else In the part of the world In different days? I'll try keep up to date about the solar eclipse If you'd wish In any way? Very excited for 20th march! I'll try Capture the event Unless it's cloudy and impossible to catch the Point.
ShadowBloomingVeronika Unfortunately I won't be able to make it out to Great Britain this time around. The next total eclipse I'll definitely shoot will be in August 2017 when one passes through the width of the continental U.S. As for the March eclipse, even if the sun is behind clouds, stop and look around. Even if you can't see the sun, when the eclipse is close to maximum (I hope you'll be at the northern end of Scotland, at least) the light will be eerie.
ShadowBloomingVeronika P.S. There are many other interesting things happening in the sky besides solar eclipses (admittedly with less impact). I'll be photographing as many as I can and posting them here: astrocamera.net Enjoy!
I have a backup site there, in case the weather is looking bad in Wyoming at my primary site. I have several articles on planning for this eclipse here: www.astrocamera.net/2017/0821/index.htm
why is the darkness coming only at the last moment? I heared that some people didn't realize that an annular or very deep partial eclipse was occuring even with luminosity decreased by 95 percent
In partial phases, the sun disappears so gradually that your eyes adapt to the darkness without your awareness. As you get closer to totality, the light looks "odd" with strange shadows, for example,, but if you're not aware an eclipse is occurring, you might not notice it. Only in the last few minutes will you be aware that the sky is darkening, but if you don't have a filter, you still won't be able to look directly at the sun. Only when he sun is totally covered can you look directly at the sun to see what is happening. No photos or video can accurately show what is happening, unfortunately. You have to be there!
And annular eclipses are much less interesting? I imagine its not making people so "euphoric"... Is it true that shadows become "multiple"? and have you ever seen a "beaded eclipse"? I never found a video, I would be really curious
That's right. Annular eclipses are interesting, but not as dramatic as a total eclipse. The shadows are still interesting and fun to play with: astrocamera.net/2012/0520/pinhole.htm A beaded eclipse is probably referring to a total eclipse in which and moon and sun are very close to the same apparent size so that Baily's beads appear all around the eclipsed sun. Such an eclipse would last a very short time and you would have to be exactly on the centerline.
I remember when I was around 5 (Ish?) and we had a eclipse. I was scared shitless seeing the sky go dark, now I love these, sucks that it's so rare, but the wonders of the universe are awesome, right?
ProudiPhoneOwner 2017 will indeed be the big one for us. But you'll have to travel out of California to see the whole show. eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEsearch/SEsearchmap.php?Ecl=20170821
Lloré, nunca alcanzaré a ver uno así, malditos jajaaja muchos vivieron un sueño que yo siemrre he tenido. Benditos sean los que han vivido esa maravilla.
