It's crazy to think this should have been arsenal's year and 08/09 should have been liverpools year. That would be 2 less titles for ferguson and his 06-09 team wouldn't be seen as it was. Also arsene should have won it in 2016. A few draws here and there change the course of history

@@asinineik45hhh another thing which helped Fergie win another UCL title along with the robbery vs Bayern in 1999 was us getting knocked out against Liverpool in the quarterfinals when we played so well, only to concede a stupid penalty right after our equaliser as we literally had the capability of beating ANYONE that season before we got weaker and weaker in the following seasons. 😢

Talk about unearthing gems! Eduardo was the best 'nerves of steel in the box' player I ever saw. Very comfortable in the box, Barbatov had the same qualities but Eduardo added the 'rat in box' element. We can only leak our lips on what could have been!

Going into that Birmingham game which Eduardo broke his leg in we had the opportunity to go 8 points clear as it was an early Saturday K:O on the 27th G/W before everyone else played. The football that season going forward with the likes of Fabregas, Rosicky, Hleb, Walcott, Van Persie, Adebayor was absolutely scintillating. The intricate & incisive interchanges and build up going forward was truly breathtaking. Including the Birmingham draw we drew 5, lost 2 and won just 1 of our 8 league games in that period which ultimately cost us the title. Finished on 83 points (4 points off Man Utd). The 2 we lost were 6 pointers against Man United and Chelsea respectively as well to make it even more painful. Even if we'd just managed to beat United during that horrific run of results it would have hypothetically meant that we would have won the league in hindsight if the 3 points went the other way although obviously I appreciate the entire dynamic of the run in would have been altered by those chain of events. Fine margins. We completely imploded from gameweek 27-34. What could have been 😔.

Never quite the same player after that leg break was he. He came back and scored a few goals but you could tell he lost a bit of that pace he had and didn't look as clinical in front of goal. Shame really, shocking tackle too. That was the best Arsenal squad in Emirates era under Wenger. Never got as good as that again. Only with the recent Arsenal squad you could say it's best we've had since then.

I doubt most of us would have said that on that period or day. We wanted more and some abused Wenger. Now we knew where were are even after spending so much money on players. If this much money given to Wenger those days surely he could have got a trophy

@@abishsaseendrawarrier6361 but that itself was a problem, wenger didn't want to spend money even if he had and wanted to turn potential talents in to brllinat players and no doubt he did , even in this side he had Educaru, Adebayor, Helb all three of them were talents and he picked them up and made them into top top class players who delivered at the highest level. He was a master of that but he should have learned the trick of expensive signings and adjusting into these teams which were full of potential and talent..but he never did.

@@goals27 He only had to find talents and grow them all the time because he wasn't given the big money other managers had to spend at the time. It's not like we didn't want ready players, it's that we couldn't afford them!

That we didn't have enough money at all to buy few world class players , Wenger himself indirectly said few times that he prefers young stars rather than spending so he was actually making excuses for the owners rather than demanding which could have helped him had some money but he didn't and then he became stubborn with it.

@@goals27 The club is only spending big now because the debts were paid long ago. And even after the debts, they only started paying big when Kroenke's owned it a 100%. Arsenal weren't even able to pay big wages in the era of this match. The claim that they had the money and it was ready to be spent yet Wenger didn't want to spend it is pure stupidity. Every document goes against it. The club was placed under huge financial restrictions for years in order to cover the move to the new stadium.

@@jeannotschumacher1024 Wenger was a pretty awful tactician. He basically just put his best 11 on the pitch and tell them to attack. Chelsea and UTD knew exactly what he would do and just tell them to plah deep and hit on the break. Wenger had no clue how to to stop the low block. I think the invincibles overinflated his ego but at the end of the season it was just 1 trophy and even that season had lots of draws. Beaten by Chelsea in the CL.

@@rndompersn3426 definitely. We totally underachieved under Wenger. I still think and always will that GG was our best manager. Tactical fox. In contrary to wenger he had a big tactical nouse and certainly learned through his errors. The benfica elimination of 1991 and certainly the way of it never ever happened again . He learned and took the defensif approach. Wenger never learned. Actually shocking from him.
