I've seen the master cylinder sucked out before bleeding, but don't you risk running it dry by not immediately putting clean fluid in prior to breaking into the brake system? Perhaps newer vehicles don't gravity drain through the reservoir? Also, my 2012 JK has the brake line going to the caliper the opposite way. Not sure which way is correct, but I just replaced my caliper (FL) and it was routed to the inside, not the outside.

Right after sucking the old fluid out of the master it was promptly filled back up with fluid before any bleeding/repair was done

I don't Trust you your master cylinder cap shows signs of brake fluid contamination!

The Jeep has 270k miles on it, so I can’t tell you what was used in it prior to me purchasing. I can tell you that dot 3 and dot 4 are backwards compatible. Cheers!

God that is not smart. NEVER RUN A MASTER CYLINDER DRY!!!If your going to flush the system don't do it if your only replacing a caliper.

The master was not ran dry. Not sure what you’re taking about. The reservoir was sucked down to the bottom and filled with fresh fluid, but that does not empty the master. I always recommend sucking the old fluid out of the reservoir and filling with fresh so once you start bleeding, you get fresh fluid into the lines. Thanks!

USE ONLY THE BRAKE FLUID MARKED ON THE MASTER CYLINDER CAP!!! WHICH SHOULD BE DOT 3 NOT DOT 4. DOT 4 WILL FUCK UP MOST JEEP BRAKE SYSTEMS!!!!!

DOT 3 and 4 are interchangeable and completely backwards compatible. Thanks!
