Bro that jeep is sooooo clean, omg. I live in the rust belt sadly, cars here get replaced more often than a T-shirt since manufacturers dont want to build one that can last in this environment.

I found my Jk would not hold the adjustment and I was constantly adjusting as outlined in the video. It would work for a little while. I found A common problem is the ratcheting mechanism in the handle. I replaced the return spring with drum brake springs as I put new shoes on and bought the hardware kit. It works flawlessly now. This compliments proper adjustment.

Interesting that a spring on the handle would improve engagement at the drums but I appreciate this info a bunch and hope it helps others as well!!!
@comfort_in_discomfort
@comfort_in_discomfort Год назад
@AutoEdits Not at the drums. There is a ratcheting mechanism in the hand brake that takes up a lot of slack in the cable - enough slack that it cannot be adjusted at the drum. You can see this if you "pump" your handbrake up and down, it'll tighten.
@jasondupuis430
@jasondupuis430 Год назад
Yes there is a clock spring and clutch that doesn’t hold up to well. I put the brake shoe springs from the bolts that mount the handle assay to the tab that holds the two cables. My clock spring would just keep introducing more and more slack. Now it stays just a few clicks away from engaging.

Hey everyone! You don't need to take your wheels off for this! I was able to get the job done by climbing underneath my Jeep with a flashlight, needle nose pliers, and a brake spoon. It's a tight job with limited visibility but is entirely possible to do without lifting the vehicle. Just be careful not to overtighten, as you won't be able to do the drag test on the rotors using this method.

Good video Jason. Yea I have that same issue with the self adjusting little drum in the handle that takes up slack. I notice that when I park with the front uphill it doesn’t take up the slack but if I park level or down hill it takes up some of the slack and the handle is tight. It’s an obvious flaw in the design.

Yeah as a few other comments have already said, this completely misses the issue of the weak cable tension take up spring at the handle assembly. If that's not functioning properly then no amount of brake shoe adjustment is going to make the parking brake work satisfactorily.
@AutoEdits

Hey Jason, great to see Pinto is happy and healthy. Looks like the TPL is long past. Hemi through a Rod through the block just over a week ago. While waiting to see how much after market warranty will pay for engine replacement, needed wheels and bought Gladiator Rubicon and took delivery on Sunday. Don't have the energy or time right now to start another major overland build. Going to keep in simple & clean (I hope!). Need to get a winch on it asap. Might even temporarily pull winch off Ram. Planning to keep stock front bumper, see I can buy a winch plate for stock bumper see lots choices. Any to avoid? Ones to consider? Or will I regret spending money on a plate and not replacing stock bumper? Pros vs Cons? Any and all tips, opinions welcome.

Question is the driver side actuator flipped like the adjuster star bolts ? I know the driver side the star is up and the passenger side it's down. I was wondering if the actuator is the same kinda situation. I just replaced every single component of the emergency brake system. The cables were the worst part since I'm still stock and it's a tight fit.

Two things. One: which way does the adjusting wheel in the e-brake turn (on either side of the Jeep) to either spread or release the shoes? Question two: On the drivers side of my 2012 Wrangler, the adjusting wheel is missing from the hole in the back plate. At some point, it must have fallen down into the lower part of the brake. What do I do now to get the rotor off? Thanks for any advise.

Turn or "click" towards the front of the vehicle to expand the shoes on both sides and towards the rear to loosen. There doesn't seem to be a way for that adjuster to fall off... You might be looking on the wrong side of the backing plate... towards the rear on both sides. Good luck!
