Weird...I bought one in 2008. Still have it today, a car of this caliber will have issues and must be maintained. I have zero complains and will never sell. Nothing like this car simply amazing.
I have drooled after this car for years but I never bought a cheap one on Ebay because the V10 repair nightmare stories and running costs frighten me away.
GUYS THE BMW V10 ISINT THAT UNRELIABLE the oil is acctull syrup when cold u MUST let it warm up if you drive it while cold dobt thrash treat it like it has a million hp and have a light foot. Its been proven time snd time again it comes down to ownership and if the previous owner trashed it what do you think your gonna get my freind has one on og rod berings with 176k miles its a rlly good car and i hate that it has this stigma
If you expect to just jump in and drive it like a Toyota then this platform is not for you! If you understand the engineering invested, which is an F1 derivative engine and the SMG was designed specifically for the v10, you will have a better experience driving and loving this machine. I personally own 3 M6’s. 2 of them stroked (5.7 & 5.8L). The 3rd is a Dinan S2 packaged. If you maintain them properly you will have a wonderful experience.
I've always liked BMWs...that other people own, I don't know why, but I've never had a desire to own one. Like a friend of mine always says; "I love tattoos...on other people!"
They are nice, I've driven a lot of them and Mercedes etc but yeah ownership, nah! Some of the smallest things can go wrong and fixing it costs an arm and a leg. Ever wonder why some of these cars devalue so much so quickly? I'll stick with Japanese arigato gozaimasu!
I hear the same thing every time I watch an SMG equipped M5/M6 video... that the tranny around town is crap and yes it is if you drive it in auto mode. The car was made to be driven in manual mode. I learned that myself when I drove my 1st M5, I hated it! Now that I'm on my 7 year of ownership with my M5 l, I fully understand what the SMG is all about. Its no DCT, but it does suit the car very much when how to operate the SMG correctly!
The SMG is a manual with a computer actuated clutch. You can run it in manual mode shifting via paddles or shifter. If it is shifting weird, then run the adaption and let it learn. As far as bearings a full parts package is about $800 at FCP. Of course you have to do it yourself. If 80-100k mile bearing job scares you off, then realize a set of Pilot Sport tires mounted and balanced are going to run you $1500+ every 20k miles (if you run hwy). I have owned mine since 2007. Still love it. It's an exotic in a production wrapper. Realize this car cost $110k+ new (That's $170k in today's dollars, so if you can only afford a Camary then stay away.
Love V10s. This one sounds amazing. This would make a good car if it had a different transmission. Call me old. But love the color. Pretty sweet looking car though. 😊
Stop whining about the back seats man. You can sit right wel into 5ft 7. It’s not a roomy place but it’s a coupe. Not a family car. I’m 6 2 and able to stuff myself in the back if I must. Try a Porsche 911 or a Jaguar XK. The 6 series back seats (and trunk) are best in class.
I always liked the look of this M6, but I have been liking it much more since BMW's current exterior styling leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. Edit: Fixed 2 grammatical errors
And this looks good compared to what BMW is putting out now. That V10 sounds great. Some guy at my office has an M6 convertible and I commend him for keeping up with the maintenance.
I strongly disagree! You can sit right well into 5ft 7. It’s not a roomy place but it’s a coupe man. Not a family car. I’m 6 2 and able to stuff myself in the back if I must. Try a Porsche 911 or a Jaguar XK. The 6 series back seats (and trunk) are best in class.
