I own this car, and unfortunately a herd of deer ran into it a few weeks ago, and with 207k miles on the engine, the insurance company declared it a total loss. I have owned it since 17k miles (it was a lease return in 2009 when I purchased it). Before the warranty was up, it required a timing chain. A few recalls were adressed free of charge by the dealer, and other than that I have had no great issues. I did oil changes every 5k miles (full synthetic..because turbo), and replaced front and back brakes once, gone through 2 sets of tires (having just replaced all four less than 10k miles before the deer incident). I truly love this car. If it had been reasonable to pull all the tires off and pluck the innards from this one, and place it into a new car, I would have done it. It has been reliable, safe on wet, snowy, and icy roads..and frankly, it’s been fun to drive. Decent gas mileage for an suv, and sufficient cargo space for 3 large dogs, and horse tack. My complaint would be that Mazda cheaped out on the appointments in terms of carpet and upholstery quality (mine were cloth, not leather), and due to my outdoor lifestyle, they disintegrated by 120k miles. Seat covers saved the seats, but the carpet under the driver side is now nonexistent. My mechanic has routinely reminded me that I was lucky with this car and the low repairs I’ve had to do. Apparently, others have had significant issues.
So a new CX-5 wouldn't work for you? Our CX-5 has been excellent, no major issues at 50K miles. Biggest complaint so far is the occasionally slow-responding center dashboard electronics (on one or two occasions the backup camera didn't fire up quickly enough and navigation inputs can be annoyingly delayed - for many of the ills, I blame the stupid legal warning message that has to overrride the system every time you start the vehicle) but I generally love the cabin and the way the CX-5 drives. It definitely feels like a premium SUV for basically a non-premium price. You'll find the CX-5 is not as beefy as the older CX-7 and therefore the engine is smaller but far more economical, and the newer vehicle is more refined and has a much better ride overall while keeping tidier dimensions. Interior room is bigger in the CX-5, I would say, although it does have to be noted other SUVs in the class offer more room (Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue). Only the CX-5 will offer anything approaching driver enjoyment, though. Only thing I can add is that I don't know about long-term durability of the wear items like seats and carpets...sounds like you use those pretty hard, so maybe splurging for a set of aftermarket rubber floor mats and seat covers would be a wise investment on any vehicle you own.
@@RoadCone411 I went with a different make, but seriously considered the CX-5. It’s a beautiful car, and there was quite a bit about it that I appreciated. I love the car I purchased, and don’t regret it, but when asked, I don’t hesitate to recommend that folks check out the 5, as my experience with my Mazda was very good.
I bought one of these with very low kms. I loved the fact the heated seats stayed on, the panoramic windshield and the height adjusting headlights, but about 3 days after I bought it it started ticking like diesel. Tried to bring it back to the used car dealer to tell them the issue but they tried to say it was normal to sound that way, I brought it into dealer to get 3 recalls done on it and lo and behold it was the timing chain which alone costs 1-2k for the part alone. So after threatening the dealer I was going to take them to consumer affairs for misleading me I got my money back. These cars with the turbo charger are nothing but issues and it is frequently with this component. I'm not sure how other cx7's are but they are discontinued so that might be an indication of something
hard to listen to all the personal clichés here and not sure that's a real review when the guy simply doesn't like the car. I was expecting an objective professional review. There seems to be some in the comments. Thank you commenters.
I would've been better off without the god bless at the end; however, just bought a 2009 CX7 Grand Touring... it makes me not hate my morning commute. It makes me enjoy driving again. I have the CX7 for fun, and an Insight for long trips.
don't buy it it's got timing chain problems Motor problems you bite your find out you keep working on it and working on it and working on it and working on
