I always take my car to the dealer for ONLY an oil change. Mainly because I don't want to deal with the mess but also because I get the free 24 point inspection and they will show me things I may have missed such as the filter.

For the cabin filter, the third clip, the damper, has a small clip that comes off towards you, then the damper slides to the right.

Put anti seize on the bolts to prevent one of them snapping off in the hole

You should remove the box entirely by disconnecting the mass airflow sensor and the hose clamp and then blow the base out with compressed air. Not doing this will allow the dirt and leaves in there now to contaminate your new air filter. Only a few more steps.
