In this video, I test drove a truck that had a weird noise coming from the front wheels. I discovered that it had worn out front wheel bearings. I show the steps for replacing a front wheel bearing on a GMT900 (07-14) Chevy/GMC 1/2-ton 4x4 truck. The process is similar for the GMT-800 and GMT-400 trucks.
Time required: 30mins+ per side
Tools required: 1/2" breaker bar, 1/2" sockets (36mm, 22mm, 18mm, 15mm), 1/2" drive extensions, chisel, hammer, heavy mallet, T30 socket/wrench, box end wrenches (18mm, 15mm), "cat's claw" tack remover, 1/2" drive torque wrench.
Torque specs:
Lug nuts: 140ft/lbs
Wheel bearing to steering knuckle: 133ft/lbs
Brake caliper bracket to steering knuckle: 129ft/lbs
Axle shaft nut: 177ft/lb
Other materials used: Blue (medium strength) thread locker, AeroKroil penetrant spray, brake cleaner spray, anti seize.
