Pretty easy, but here I show you how to replace your master cylinder the correct way and some helpful information along the way.

Good job. Btw, do you have a video on the procedure on bleeding the brakes. You said there is something you have to do if you have abs. I have 08 f250 Harley Davidson. 2 master cylinders in 8 months. Last time front driver side locked up. Starting over. New master cylinder, calipers, rotors and I am replacing the break line on the front driver side. Don't want to keep doing this.. Any recommendations will be appreciated.

There's an ABS Bleed Procedure that the BCM does, but you'll need a laptop, OBD II Cable or Bluetooth Adapter and Forscan. Other than that it's the normal bleed procedure. Since the diesel trucks don't have vacuum assist, it uses Hydraboost (the pressure from the power steering pump) to assist the brakes. I always do the power steering bleed procedure as well when bleeding the brakes, albeit probably overkill.

Good video. Gonna be tackling a 2008 f250 master cylinder thus weekend. Quick question. Do you have to bleed all four brakes or just the fronts?
@USAF99
@USAF99 Год назад
All four, the two lines go to splitters for front and back.

Mike, After watching both this video (where you don't remove degas bottle) and your hydroboost video (where you DO remove the degas), quick question: After doing both procedures do you feel I can get the Hydroboost out without removing the degas? My master cylinder is fine, but my Hydroboost needs to be replaced. I am thinking of going about it without taking out the degas. It certainly appears (in this video) that I can get the Hydroboost out with the MC out of the way. But I am hoping that I can just unbolt the MC from the Hydro, but leave the brake lines connected and move the MC out of the way to wiggle out the Hydro. Is that possible with the degas bottle still there? Or not enough room?
@USAF99
@USAF99 Год назад
It's absolutely possible. It's rough, but possible. Thankfully the MC is on flex lines a little ways down so moving it around isn't an issue.

I’m curious about the vacuum tool you use to bleed the brakes? Also I’d like more info on the handy ratchet tool. Could you please give us the model a name brand? Thank you. Love the video
@USAF99

The vaccum refiller is a Pittsburgh Automotive from Harbor Freight, the ratchet tool is a Milwaukee M12 Fuel Series 3/8 ratchet, model number 2557-20.

Great video! I have been working on a project past couple of days and I think my last step will be to replace the master cylinder. My truck is a 5.4 L 08 F250 Supercrew w/ manual trans. It didn't come with the OEM TBC but has the towing package, the wiring, and I added the controller and I enabled it in Forscan already. I'm able to adjust the gain and it shows "Trailer Disconnected" when I check but keeps popping up with "Trailer Brake Module Fault" on the dash, which I believe is due to not having the proper master cylinder. My current master cylinder only has the one valve/plug on the bottom, towards the front (cruise). I'm trying to hunt down the proper master cylinder that will provide the two valves/plugs. When I searched the part number you provided, that is for hydroboost. Any idea on how to hunt it down for mine, being a gas engine? Thanks

It shouldn't matter, hydroboost or vacuum boosted- RockAuto lists the same MC for both my truck and yours, there's a Raybestos MC391188 on there that should work perfectly. Here's the link: www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=3284502&cc=1440007&pt=1836&jsn=11064 Cancel Reply

@USAF99 Thanks for the quick response. I was just on there checking out it. It looks like they don't provide the valves with those. I have the one on front. What part would I need to screw into the back? I believe I have the other end of the pigtail in a dummy plug already. Thanks again

@@shotpointm28 I want to say it's this one- but double check me. www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=2065874&cc=1440007&pt=13521&jsn=1118

I finally got a chance to get after this today. Everything was going well until I realized my hole pattern on my MC was different than yours. Yours are at 9:00 and 3:00. Mine are at 8:00 and 2:00. I can't seem to find one with my hole pattern, the brake control valve and the hydroboost (??) plug on the inside. Any ideas or suggestions? I'm thinking it may be a Dorman M630524 but I don't see the hydroboost plug. Thanks again

Any chance you can tell me which brake line feeds the front brakes? I'm using this booster and MC on a rock crawler and don't have an 08 SD truck to reference. I'm assuming the rearmost port, closest to the driver, feeds the front brakes.
@USAF99
@USAF99 Год назад
Well...I literally pulled up service data because I wasn't sure. I can't seem to find a hydraulic schematic to be 100% sure. I know they DO feed a HCU and ABS module, and experience would tell me you are correct in your assumption. I just can't be sure. Are you using a Hydraboost or a vacuum booster? If I find out different, i'll update my reply!

@@USAF99 Thanks for your response. I haven't gotten a clear answer on any forum. I'm using the whole 08 SD hydrobooster and master cylinder. My truck is about to hit the road again, so I'll find out how things work soon enough. I'm not sure it even matters, one response I received is that MCs for front and rear disk brakes are 50/50 balanced. But I don't necessarily believe that, I have found other disk/disk MCs that are biased towards the front brakes. If you find a definitive answer I'd love to hear it. Thanks again.

@@gunnibronco1 curious if you found the answer to which is the front/rear brake fittings?
@gunnibronco1
@gunnibronco1 Год назад
@@inmygarage_kenm I don't have an answer yet. From what I can tell at this point the MC is 50/50 balanced and it doesn't matter in my application. I switched my brake lines at the MC and I have too much rear brake bias both ways. I'm adding a proportioning valve to reduce the rear brake and will see how that performs.

You didn't have to bench bleed the cylinder?
@USAF99
@USAF99 2 года назад
I find that these bleed MUCH better by just opening the bleeders at each caliper and running clear plastic into a container. Takes a little time but you get a good bleed with gravity and time. Vacuum bleeders work pretty good too.

Did you use forscan to bleed the abs?
@USAF99

You can use Forscan or an Autel, I have done it with either. Just make sure you do it a few times, it's not a "one and done" type deal.
