Thank you! Getting one stud on prior getting that heavy alternator on was the key I was missing. I attached a small rope to wiggle in the idler pulley bolt on the alternator to attach to the block. Best realistic video I’ve seen. It has to come out the wheel well, not the top. Thank you for this post. I’m up and running!

I took the left stud out. got alternator out easily with a few turns from the side of the frame. same Going in. with a few turns once in then set it on the right stud. and get the pulley back on first then the left stud. tighten pulley tighten the studs. then the nuts after you tighten will align the alternator. then belt..your ground and power plug in. put belt back on. before lowering. turn vehicle on make sure all is great

U can use an angle end flathead bar/driver and release the belt that way too just a little advice for those who cannot afford to rent that tool. Also for those who own a welder can weld a half inch head to flat strip of decent metal to make the same rented tool. I would use a grinder to grind of a 3/8 to 1/2 inch adapter to a 3/4 or 1/2 in thick of metal and make the same exact rental tool

Techs are ASE certified and they go thru a lot to get those certs …that’s one of the reasons it’s so expensive..the other is because the billable hours on certain jobs don’t even come close to the time it takes to do some of the actual repairs..certain repairs have to absorb other repair costs..not always fair, but fact (at least used to be). Very informative video, tho. Thanks! What the charge you on the reman alt?
@camarobossman
@camarobossman 2 года назад
Thanks Monica for the comment. You got far enough into the video to hear me speak my mind thanks so much. The alternator was $199.00 plus tax. $25 core charge if you don't bring the old one. I was told by the guy that gave me the alternator that the clutches usually go bad on these alternators and not more so the alternators themselves. He says he sees so many of these come in. But with a lifetime warranty I can live with that laugh out loud. Yeah it's quite unfair not to mention the cost of the tools they have to buy I wish the Auto industry was somehow geared to make pay incentives for these men an women to get bonuses as well in addition to the work they do. Its unfair to the people that go to school for this. This is a passion for me I would almost want to own my own garage laugh out loud so that I can know that I'm in charge of my own pay. Even then there's a lot of shop associated fees with that. so I can definitely see the high expense to buy shop supplies and maintain equipment. Unfortunately that's the world we live in though.

This should be a 10 min video. A big zip tie is handy for lifting it out the Top. I changed the Tensioner as well as idler Pulley and belt. Tensioner is a bitch both ways. Something was making a loud noise from 5-10 secs on 0° F Start up. Still a chirp at -5 but it may be the AC Compressor. 2013 Acadia Denali seemed much more difficult.

My wife’s 2011 Acadia has a brand new battery but the gauge keeps dropping to 13 and a little below. There are no lights or warnings indicating that anything needs changed. Do you think this is an alternator problem?
@camarobossman
@camarobossman 2 года назад
Did this happen after the battery change or before? If it happened after the battery change double check the connections at the battery, they could just be loose. If this was a problem before the battery change it could be the alternator is on the way out and not all the way out yet. You will get a service charging system warning in the cluster if the computer see really low voltage. If you see that message get to safety as soon as possible you have about 15 minutes of drive time before it stalls or less than that. These alternators have a clutch attached to them that engages and disengages based on the ECM commands for charging if it's not too erratic it may be normal but if it's jumping all over the place I would say is the alternator. That is if your battery connections are good. Keep me updated my man. If you do get the service charging system soon light have the alternator bench tested before you replace it just to make sure there's nothing else going on

@@camarobossman I’m not sure honestly because we just bought it 2 weeks ago. We replaced the battery on the same day we bought it because it died same day and it’s been working fine up until the last 5 days I’d say. When starting it starts up at 15ish and then slowly drops to the 13 but will sometimes stay around 14. Just depends on the day. We will check connections for sure. Thank you!

My husband changed the battery and the alternator to our acadia 2012 but it keeps appearing "servicing battery charging system"we took it to a mechanic shop and they conected the computer and they say there is nothing wrong with the battery and the alternator but the same thing keeps appearing on the board.
@camarobossman

I wonder If the alternator is dropping voltage. Please look at a voltage meter an see if it is dropping. Is the dash saying at least 13 volts? Even a new alternator can be bad.

I don't know if they cheked the alternator or if it has a bad wire or a part that is next to the alternator that is causing the problem, because the battery and the alternator are new.
@camarobossman
@camarobossman 2 года назад
@@angelessantana4121 I'm not sure but that actually is a little low for a brand new alternator I think it's supposed to be close to 13 and 14 volts the battery by itself is supposed to be 12.3 volts to 12.5 volts brand new. IT is a possibility that you're only seeing straight battery voltage and no alternator at all do me a favor if you turn on the headlights have your husband get a multimeter from Walmart if the voltage goes down when you turn the headlights on take the alternator back and exchange it because it is bad. Turning on the headlights and air conditioning we'll put a load on the system you will probably see it on the gauge on your vehicle may not even need a voltmeter look on your voltage on your dashboard and see if the voltage drops when you turn on headlights and air conditioning if it does you have a bad alternator possibly. Thanks for reaching out to me I hope this gets resolved please keep me updated. With the vehicle running voltage should be at least 13 and up with the car off it should be 12.3 just like your battery test shows
